It has been widely reported on this thread as well as elsewhere on the DIS boards that WDW has ceased selling resort-specific items, choosing instead to be generic across the board in order to maximize its purchasing power over vendors. This has been discussed often and suggested that if it is something that you find offensive, you tell them so in various ways such as in the exit interview you may get in the lobby on the day you check out or in that evaluation that may be emailed to you upon your return from the trip. Several have reported sending letters of disgust to various mucky-mucks within the WDW corporate hierarchy.

This makes those items acquired on previous trips worth that much more if you want to dispose of them on Ebay.

That's disappointing! Thanks for the info.

We are excited for our first trip to the BC in a few weeks. I have been reading in various places that by the time the buses get to the BC in the morning the buses are full or close to it. For those who have been before, would you recommend walking to the YC for bus pick up? Is this frowned upon? Is it even an option? We will have a 6,5, and a 2 year old in a stroller. Any thoughts/advice would be great! Thanks:thumbsup2

Hi MUNUMom!

We stayed at BC in March and July of this year, and we have two older boys and a pre-schooler in a stroller. We walk to DHS and Epcot, but for the bus to AK and MK, we arrive at the BC bus stop one hour before the park opens. So if MK opens at 8am, we're at the bus stop no later than 7am. Because we're often the first family at the bus stop, we don't have any difficulty getting on the next bus. YC is certainly not far, and definitely an option, but we prefer arriving at the BC bus stop early, instead of walking over to the YC bus stop.

Hope this helps a bit - have a great trip!:wizard:

In my opinion it depends on the time in the morning. The buses aren't all that crowded after opening sometimes. If you are attempting to be there when the parks open and you want to make sure you get a seat, then stroll on over to the YC and catch the bus there. There are no rules that say you can't. However, I start work at 9:30 and walk near the bus stop around 9 AM and there are people there waiting for buses but not all that many that I personally would walk over to the YC. However, if I had 3 young children and it was 7:15 (park opens that day at 8) and I walked out and there were loads of people, I might take the chance of missing the first bus and walk over to the YC. Also, remember, you have to fold up the stroller on the buses.

There is a few ways to get over to the YC bus stop. You can walk back into the BC and out by Ariels and past the arcade, past Yachtsman and out the front door of the lobby of the YC. But you could also walk past the BC bus stop, through the convention center and then out the convention center and walk to the other side of the YC. To walk in front of the whole convention center and over to the YC seems much longer than walking through the convention center. It's probably not but it sure seems that way to me.

We were getting on the first or second bus each morning - and they were not even close to being full! This was at the end of October. It is possible that the YC was mostly filled with conventioners (;) is that even a word?) , but when we were there - hardly anyone ever got on or off at the YC.

I also agree with Teena - it looked like walking around the convention center would be a long walk! We considered it a few times on the way back in the evening when we were standing - but always decided it would be quicker just to stay on the bus. I didn't know you could cut through.

We are scheduled to leave tomorrow at 8am; however I have been in the hospital since Thurs. Night with bronchitis and asthma (and I'm 22weeks pregnant). I feel better than I have in months and hope to go home today and on our trip as planned.

What should we do differently than planned. I've never had asthma or any other breathing issues before, so I'm not sure what to expect. Should I rent a wheelchair so I don't overdo it? If so, advice about where from? Should we plan less park days and more relaxing? I already requested a room "close to lobby" at both resorts- anything else I can do to ensure I don't overdo it?

I really hope we get to go- my kids are asking me every time I call home!

Thanks for any help!

I would ask your doctor about the walking. On a normal day, they say you walk 8-12 miles at the parks.

If you rent a scooter, I personally recommend Walker Mobility. They say it is cheaper to rent for your length of stay. If you wait and rent from Disney at the park itself, there are limited amount of scooters and you could find yourself without one. If you rent through a rental company, they deliver to the resort, you keep it in your room at night to charge it and use it as needed. I would think you'd be fine walking around the resort but if you are going to the parks all day, you might need the scooter. I'd definitely ask your doctor's advice.

Teena or anyone familiar with this, how long a drive to go over to Cape Canaveral to view "up close and personal" the launch of the space shuttle? The latest one scheduled to go beginning of this month was delayed (for me) until November 30. Thinking of taking that Tuesday and going to see it (get rental car from Dolphin).

With a 4:02am launch time, can you see it from the YC? If so, where? A number of years ago I was at the airport staying at the Hyatt and watched a night launch from the pool area. VERY IMPRESSIVE!!! Kind of hoping to do the same thing again on Tuesday the 30th.

When we went to see a launch it took us between 1hr 15min to 1hr 30 min to get there- but it might be a little longer now with security.

This was amazing, something I think that everyone should see. My kids thought that this was fantastic, because none of their friends had seen a launch in person.

We were across the lake from the actual launch, but we could feel the ground vibrate when the launch was about to happen.

From the Orlando airport it is exactly a 45 minute drive. I never drive from or to Disney from the airport so I'm not sure about the length of that drive. It's a straight shot from the airport.

From the YC, I'm told you look over towards France and you'll see it. As long as it's not a cloudy day, you'll see it just as well in the day as night. We watch all the launches from our backyard and we're way northwest of Disney. From my house, it's a 45 minute drive to the airport and 1-1/2 hours to the Port.

I"m told you have to leave hours and hours early and traffic gets totally bottled up. Lots of people go 12 hours ahead of time to get a good spot and then tailgate basically. The problem is, they always seem to get postponed or the time changes so you could end up there waiting for hours and hours or days even. That's why we watch from a distance (our backyard).

Hi. Does anyone have any info on the YC junior suite? I'm thinking of booking one for our next trip. Specifically, are there french doors separating the bed area from the sitting area? Where is the desk and the internet hook up? TIA.

All I can say is WOW! There is a lot of information to take in here. It took me a couple days but I finally made it through the whole thread. Thank you everyone for contributing all your information.

My mom and I (my Disney Partner in Crime) are heading down from Dec 11 - Dec 14. We were originally booked at Pop Century. A few weeks ago I decided to surprise mom and upgrade to the Poly. Well the more and more I read the latest reviews were not very kind to the Poly so I did some research and decided to book the Yacht Club. I'm very, very excited about this!

It's still a surprise, mom thinks we are staying at Pop. I had a great plan as to how I was going to surprise her when we were booked at Poly. I am a complete Dolewhipaholic so my plan was to tell her I wanted to stop by the Poly to grab a dolewhip before we checked in our resort. Then once we got inside...SURPRISE! This is where we are staying.

So now here I am trying to figure out how to surprise her with the YC. I know that there is a Christmas display in the lobby so I was thinking I could use that as my excuse for going to the YC. Soooooo I have a few questions.

Can you tell me what that display is so I sound like I know what I'm talking about when I tell her that is why we are making a pit stop there. Also I know at Poly when you go through the security gate they ask why you are there. I assume they do that at YC as well, so could I say it is to se the Christmas display?

Thanks for any suggestions and again for all the great info on here!

Hi MsCoz2000,

The last time I was at the Yacht Club at Christmas time was a couple of years ago but I assume the displays are still the same. The lobby has a cute Christmas village train setup and a Christmas tree decorated with a nautical theme.

It looks like it was the same last year. There are some pictures here:

WOW thats awesome!!!! My parents are into Garden Railroads, we actually have a setup in our backyard. This will be the PERFECT way to get her there!!!!! Thank you so much for the quick response.

Train display in the lobby of the YC then you walk over to the BC for the Gingerbread Carousel. These are really two great displays to view on top of the ones at GF and CR. I would think you can use these as your excuse. Not sure about the guard at the entrance but I would think you could get a three hour parking pass if you tell them you are there to check out the Christmas displays. Welcome to the DARK SIDE!!!

Given the early hour of the lift off, the propensity of NASA to delay launches, and the traffic jam you speak of, I think I'll wander down to the lake and look towards the north-east. I wonder if they let people up to the observation deck in the CR to watch it at that time of the morning. Might be worth the cab ride over. I'll have to check that out. Thanks Teena.

Christmas music is playing, Christmas sales are on at the stores and in the shopping adds, and it is even snowing in the northern mid-west. Must be gettting close to December. I'm one DISer who is getting just a little anxious waiting for that countdown ticker to reach zero. Anyone else?

Tell her you are taking her to lunch there.

That would be a fantastic idea. I'd call over there and find out and definitely go over to the CR and watch from there!!! I'll be in our back yard watching so I'll raise my coffee cup to you and our girls!!

Thanks! We saw the carousel last year (and will def. being checking it out again this year, isn't it beautiful?)

Tell her you are taking her to lunch there.

Thats a great idea too, I didn't even think how easy that would be! (Where in Jersey are you from? I see you leave for vac. soon, have a Great time!!!)

For all you going soon to the Y&B, I have good news. Two weeks ago I talked to the head pastry chef. They are going to be selling those gingerbread house kits again this year. They sold them as fast as they made them last year so make sure you don't wait until the last minute to get them. The gingerbread is Chef Stefan's grandmother's recipe and is very different than the gingerbread at the Grand Floridian. The gingerbread house kit has everything you need to make a fantastic and yummy gingerbread house. They totally sold out last year and our bakery department only makes a certain amount daily. They were very reasonably priced too. I purchased some for good friends as gifts and they raved about them!! For those that are flying, they come in a nice box and could be easily carried on the airplane in a bag!
