Just arrived to day.... like 6 months into the year!!! What is with this? Why do the even bother???
I think there is NO reason to get it now since it is even past the 7 month booking time for resorts that are not our home resort! It is a waste of paper and postage. I would rather use the dues to have a better perk for members.. maybe bring back valet. ;)

This is the first planner I got and it did seem kinda silly. The book is huge, postage had to be a pretty penny to send it out.

Same here on both counts! I just finished making a similar post in another thread. I have already used up my 2010, 2011 and most of my 2012 points - all without the help of the planner. At best it is a "book" that the kids can play with. I agree that they should give us the option if we do not want to receive the planner. Although I suspect our dues are not paying for this and it is an expense of DVC directly.

On another note, I was walking through a mall and saw a DVC promo book - the one with Pluto on the front - in a book store for sale for $7. Made me laugh.

Even if it comes out of DVC as opposed to the dues, Disney finds a way to make money on it, otherwise, they would not do it. I think they should just keep the info on line, and for those members who still select a paper copy, they could pay extra for their books. At first, we let the children play with them, but after so many books, we found that it just takes up space.

This years vacation planner did seem very late. I seem to recall receiving last years guide in February but I could be wrong.:cool1::banana:

I just got back and was told by a DVC CM that they are having trouble with the printing company and that is why they are so very late.

I got my planner 2 weeks ago.....and then got another one yesterday. One goes to recycling...what a waste of money

They can't just have the info online. I'm 100% sure there is a significant number of DVC owners that aren't really internet savy.

But still, they could find a cheaper way to do the planners.

Some colleges and billing are not printing and mailing any more. They call it "going green". It would be a great way to spend money. Doesn't Disney pride itself on being environmentally conscious. This is one way DVC might avoid the planner, make people happy (by helping save the environment), and save some money themselves.

I am down here in Niagara Falls, Ontario and I haven't got mine yet.

We just got ours today in Fort Erie, Ontario - I can't believe they send us two at the same address :confused3 Glad to have one, but what a waste!! We're giving one to friends of ours that went with us last year for scrapbooking.

I think they should have an option online to opt out of reciving the planner. We looked at ours for about 15 minutes before recycling it.

I would rather do all my business online and see what is out there, since it has the most up to date information.

I suggest an internet campaign to stop the book or offer an opt out option on the my profile section. All you have to do is go to the contact section in the memebers page and send them a note asking to have an opt out option posted on the profile page and why you belive this is important.

I got mine a while ago--maybe 2 or 3 months? But it was still well into 2010.

And remember that DISers actually represent a TINY portion of the total ownership. About 1% (when we last did the calculations as best we could). So while all of us here are internet savvy (and DVC savvy), realize that many members are not. I can't tell you how many stories I have read here on the boards about members who just don't have a clue about using their membership. Things like letting an entire year's worth of points go to waste because they don't know about banking and borrowing! Can you imagine?!?!? Just letting an entire year's worth of precious points expire?!?!? So some folks clearly NEED the book.

And while I agree that it is a waste for ME personally, at least the money is not coming out of dues but out of marketing. Just like when we got the giclee prints 2 years ago.

We just got ours too. I thought it was a waste to mail them so late. I think we should get them 6 months ahead of time, not after.
