2010 news from the Magic

oslo is the capital of Norway

FYI 0- oslo f a very very expensive city my dad has just visited been and it cost £15 for s drinks ($30)

There is an airport in Oslo. Norway.

Yes an option from most likely February 2011, one new ship maybe at PC, say doing the 7 night Caribbean cruises, the Wonder still doing its 3/4 nights, and the Magic off to LA Via Panama and San Francisco to Alaska, choices!

The new ships will both be sailing out of Port Canaveral for at least 3 years as per the press release a while ago. So in 2011 either the Magic or Wonder could be off doing something else.

Anyone know where the possible stops for a transatlantic cruise would be? Also what would be closest airport to oslo so I can start looking at plave ticket prices? How long of a flight is that and exactly where is Oslo located?

I think it's too early to know for sure, unless someone stumbles upon more port schedules. I wouldn't be surprised if we saw shorter transatlantic cruises or maybe two different cruises to get from Florida to Europe. They were practically giving away the transatlantic cruises in 2007. I can't imagine they'd think that a 14-night transatlantic makes sense.

And we're not suggesting that Oslo is the port of departure. Right now, it just looks like the stop before Copenhagen. It looks like a UK port as home base, maybe Southampton, Harwich, or Dover. If you want to look at flights, start looking at London.

I don't think the ship will depart from Oslo but it will be one of their stops. Looking at all the other cruise lines that sail the Northern Europe / Baltic cruises they leave from any of of these ports. Southampton, Harwich, Dover England, Copenhagen Denmark

Yes, itsnt that what I posted? One new ship in 2011 taking over the Magic 7 night run and releasing the Magic to go elsewhere, the Wonder staying on its route until 2012 when the next new ship replaces it.-current contract 15 years through 2022

This is why I think they will 'spice' these up a bit.

It won't sail out of Copenhagen, because it goes there AFTER it goes to Oslo.

Oslo is an expensive city - but ships dock very close to town. We bought an Oslo Pass in 2005 and it included the ferry and admissions to many of the tourist sights rather inexpensively: http://www.visitoslo.com/en/the-oslo-pass.49104.en.html We bought the city passes in each of the Scandinavian ports we visited (Copenhagen, Stockholm and Helsinki) for very inexpensive sightseeing.

Looking at the port of Copenhagen and checking itineraries for 2009 Europe cruises, the other port listed is the one visited BEFORE Copenhagen. So for DCL in 2010 - it will go to Oslo before Copenhagen. That makes sense, because our Baltic cruise on Jewel of the Seas started in Harwich, had a sea day, then went to Oslo and Copenhagen - no sea day in between.

Though in 2007 I believe it was NCL or RCCL that left Barcelona the same day we did, did the same itinerary but in reverse - starting with the French ports that we ended with.

I'll be curious if these transatlantic crossings will be as cheap as the Med crossing.

Even now, nobody believes me when I tell them $2,000 for 4 people on the 14 night sailing. CAT 9!!!:cool1:

I'm curious - did you book that when the cruise was first announced, or later when they were having issues filling the ship?

That is what I was thinking in my conversation with Andrew earlier. I think we decided 9 nights would be the shortest crossing to the UK with a stop at Castaway Cay and then either the Canary islands or Madeira for refuelling.

On both transatlantics they had problems filling the ships up and there was a lot of discounting including 3rd /4th person in a cabin basically nearly FREE.

This is why I think there will be changes this time,

The actual MED cruises sold quickly and very well compared to normal Caribbean sailings but not s fast as West Coast and Repos through Panama.

According to the Copenhagen port web site - the Magic is in Oslo before it is in Copenhagen. It could reverse the order, and other cruise ships do. But the other port listed is the one visited before. It would say "Harwich" or "Southampton" if the order was reversed.

The Transatlantic cruises didn't sell well but it also had to do with timing as May most children are still in school and a lot of schools start up again in mid August in a lot of places. Maybe they will do the Transatlantic earlier in August to avoid what happened in 2007?

Or they can do a transatlantic cruise that has quite a few stops along the way like Holland America does

Here are some examples of HAL's itineraries when bring a ship back to the U.S.

Civitavecchia (Rome); Monte Carlo, Monaco; Barcelona, Spain; Cartagena, Spain; Cadiz (Seville) Spain; Funchal, Madeira, Portugal; Fort Lauderdale, Florida

Venice, Italy; Dubrovnik, Croatia; Corfu, Greece; Messina, Sicily; Civitavecchia (Rome); Cartagena, Spain; Cadiz (Seville) Spain; Funchal, Madeira, Portugal; Half Moon Cay, Bahamas; Fort Lauderdale, Florida

Lisbon, Portugal; Portimao, Portugal; Cadiz (Seville) Spain; Casablanca, Morocco; Funchal, Madeira, Portugal; Lanzarote, Canary Islands; Tenerife, Canary Islands; Fort Lauderdale, Florida

Barcelona, Spain; Alicante, Spain; Malaga, Spain; Casablanca, Morocco; Cadiz (Seville) Spain; Lisbon, Portugal; Funchal, Madeira, Portugal; Half Moon Cay, Bahamas; Fort Lauderdale, Florida

Or you have RCCL who does shorter European cruises on a few dates

4nt cruise Harwich, England; Amsterdam, Holland; Oslo, Norway

4nt cruise Stockholm, Sweden; Visby, Sweden; Oslo, Norway; Copenhagen, Denmark

4nt cruise Oslo, Norway; Copenhagen, Denmark; Tallinn, Estonia; Stockholm, Sweden

4nt cruise Oslo, Norway; Amsterdam, Holland; Oslo, Norway

4nt cruise Stockholm, Sweden; Tallinn, Estonia; St. Petersburg, Russia; Stockholm, Sweden

5nt cruise Copenhagen, Denmark; Bergen, Norway; Geiranger, Norway; Copenhagen, Denmark

There are a lot of options. DCL could also just announce half of the 2010 year and not announce the summer itineraries as they have done in the past. At this point it is anyone's guess on what they will offer

I don't care where the ship goes, but I'm serious, if DCL goes to Copenhagen, I'll scream, I won't even have to talk my dad into a vacation(he'll say before I can get anything out of my mouth) and we will prob still be able to go on a back-to-back cruise for my birthday in march 2009:lmao:

Rather than 'shorter' I think changes to make it better, Maybe Bermuda added in that would make it special, or Madeira, Gibraltar Tenerife, again,

If Northern Europe is the itinerary they release on oct 7th we will deffinetly be booking. Heck as long as it is somewhere in Europe we would book. After the Med cruise we really want to go back.

My question is if itineraries are released on the 7th when does the actual booking start?
