Yes the nearest city is Hamburg. The yard is on some waterways / canals built in-wards (south) from the Baltic sea. Some cruise ships, sailing the Baltic, make stops at Hamburg, just think that cruise could make a shore excursion to see the first new ship being built......

Ah but Breman is not a cruise port, if you were going to to a DCL shore excursion to the yards to see the new ships you would do it from the Port of Hamburg! and you can get to Berlin from there as well.

The Suez Canal is much closer to Europe, but then it would be a very long journey past India, Asia, Australia, and through the vast Pacific Ocean. Looking at a flat world map, it looks like it would still be a shorter distance to go west via South America than to go east via the Suez Canal.

Well believe me, we were also surprised to hear him talk of the Suez Canal. Perhaps he was speculating, but then again, he did spend time on the bridge on this cruise, so maybe he knows something.

I'm simply passing along an interesting conversation.

BTW- I wonder what the wave action is like around Cape Horn. It might make the Med Transatlantic look like ripples. (NOT that I think the ships would go that way - it's just a detour my mind took instead of working

Thank you for passing this on, as everyones contribution is welcomed, I remember when one person posted about the new dinner rotations earlier this year, for Mexico 7 nights, they where flamed by one person saying it couldn't be correct, but shortly afterwards that post was proved correct and it did take place all summer.

So there is always a possibility, IMHO, it seems well out of the way and a risk for DCL to go there and not where I have understood the Magic to be going, but we never ever know until the release from DCL, they do put out false rumors.

I kind of hope they go to Copenhagen, Denmark(then for sure I know my dad would book or try to book a cruise, his dad's part of the family is from there). But hey if they don't I can ask my dad to do a RCCL in sep 2009 and could try a diff cruise line and it would be closer vacation

Reading this thread with great interest. Can I ask what the 2007 Med ports were and, if the Magic were to return to the Med in 2010, if there's an assumption that she would return to those ports?

The rumor is that its Northern Europe this time. The 2007 trip was Western Europe. We left from Barcelona, Spain and went to various ports in Italy and France: Sicily, Naples, Villefranche (Cannes/Nice), La Spezia (Florence/Pisa), Sardinia, Civitavecchia (Rome), Marseilles. Think I'm remembering this right - doesn't take long for it all to run together.

I asked him one day when I saw his around the ship and he said that he is really pushing to take one of the ships there and hopes they will agree to a sailing there soon

Instead of the 3 restaurants, repeat same 3, etc during the 7nt sailings they doubled one restaurant, I believe it was the second and third night or the third and fourth night

Example instead of the PAL, PAL, P it went something like PAAL or PALL
