2010 news from the Magic

We have a Sept. 2009 Tortola cruise booked in the Roy Suite and I will transfer that booking in a hot minute if the 2010 itinerary is more exciting.

Come over to the Tortola meets thread.....we've got a great group of DISers there already. :thumbsup2 Next Friday will make the one year till cruise date.:woohoo:

I had actually booked the Sept Tortola as a 'holding' date for something wonderful in 2010. THEN, my whole family decided to come along too, so looks like I'll have to be working lots of overtime if I want to cruise in 2010 also.

.edited to add DUH....you already are on the thread.....guess you just need to post more. ::yes::

You had better manage both cruises Jackie!!!

So slum it like the rest of us and go on both cruises!! :)

I'm planning something similar - another cruise that is. ;) If I transfer the 2009 booking, I'm looking at doing a Greek Island cruise in Sept. 2009 with just me and DH. RCCL has a great 7 night itinerary roundtrip from Venice. We will add a few pre or post cruise days in Venice. Hey, I'm a Diser- there is always some type of trip planning going on!:rotfl:

Not sure if this has been said yet - I live here in Cali - and I have a feeling that DCL will do summers in Alaska (June - Aug) and then the other months doing Mexico. Start doing land and sea tours out here too. The NCL Star (my 2nd fav ship) does the Alaska for 3-4 months and then Mexico the rest... they sail out of San Pedro. The Alaska usually sails out of Seattle with one stop in Vancouver (for the "obligatory" stop) for workers. A short "Pacific Coastal" repo gets it to and from.

!

DCL won't have a ship on the west coast year 'round until 2011 at the earliest - after the first new ship debuts.

Seattle roundtrips to Alaska stop in Victoria or Prince Rupert, not Vancouver.

*Sorry - I posted 2010 for the new ship!

The first new ship for DCL will not arrive until at least February 2011, and maybe later (if there are the usual delays in construction), with new ships 'committed' to Port Canaveral, and also too big for Panama until at least 2014, it will be either the Magic or Wonder, that will be based in LA, going north to Alaska in Summer or South to Mexico Riviera in Winter..

Oops...I meant 2011! And - I know it won't be a new ship that goes to Alaska...as I've posted several times.

Onboard the EB repo, Captian Puckett (the PC pilot) told my husband in casual conversation that he thought one of the new ships would be stationed permanently on the West Coast, with the repositioning being through the Suez Canal. Not sure how accurate the Capt is - or if it was just speculation - but nonetheless I thought it would be interesting to pass along!

It would be a bit of a very long way around and not wishing to discount your post, as its good to have everyones input, but DCL have confirmed BOTH new ships will be based at Port Canaveral for I think 4 years+, in a contract with the PC authority.

Wasn't DCL also under contract when they took the ships to the Med?

Does the current contract with PC specifically state that its the NEW ships that must be based there?

That would be QUITE an interesting cruise, because the Suez Canal is in Egypt! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Suez_Canal The new ship would have to cruise around the southern tip of South America to get to the west coast, just as Mariner of the Seas will do in early 2009 to move from Port Canaveral to Los Angeles:

They did have a contract which said DCL had to make a minimum number of calls eash year, with the West coast in 2005, The Med in 2007 then West coast again in 2008, it was brokern and DCL liabile to pay PC a fine. In the new contract that was sorted out and a more flexible agreement made until the new ships come and a gurantee of them at PC.

:lmao:

Though the London Bridge made it there!
The Magic wouldnt get under that:lmao:

Do agree, howabout the recently opened Northwest passage now the ice has melted!:rotfl2:

Whilst I usually encourgage people on Europe, the Suez Canal is in Egypt and a Disney ship would not be secure in my opinon. I have cruised there and would feel it would be a target.

Where are the new ships being built? Italy again - or I think I read Germany somewhere? If they're being built in Europe, then the Suez makes sense IF it was a new ship going to the West coast.

They are being built in north Germany and near Hamburg, thats just below the Baltic sea, the Suez is in the wrong direction. The new ships would go transatlantic to PC, -otherwise it would have to go down Baltic>English channel,to the Med accros East to Suez, then accross the Indian ocean and onwards via Japan to West cost USA.

This is the firm who builds the ships, there situated near the Dutch boarder..

The Suez Canal is much closer to Europe, but then it would be a very long journey past India, Asia, Australia, and through the vast Pacific Ocean. Looking at a flat world map, it looks like it would still be a shorter distance to go west via South America than to go east via the Suez Canal.

However, as I've said before and will keep on saying - the new ships, at 122,000 gross tons and carrying 4,000 passengers, are TOO BIG to use in Alaska. Otherwise Royal Caribbean, who has the biggest cruise ships in the world, would deploy their bigger ships there.

Yes the nearest city is Hamburg. The yard is on some waterways / canals built in-wards (south) from the Baltic sea. Some cruise ships, sailing the Baltic, make stops at Hamburg, just think that cruise could make a shore excursion to see the first new ship being built......

Beware of rumours for 2010 of
Alaska, it’s for the future.
Last information I had, A
Transatlantic is more probable,
Including the Magic going
Cruising to Scandinavia and Russia
