2010 Mom's Panel Results along with lists of Round 2 & 3 Participants

I was pondering the question of the day a little bit last night and remembered riding a ride that "shrunk' you down and sent you through a ride as if you were this small little thing. I don't remember what it was called but I remember believing I had shrunk and thinking it was so cool!

Were you thinking of Body Wars in the "former" Wonders of Life pavilion at Epcot? You shrunk to get inside the body through the blood stream!

No. this was at Disneyland and was a long time ago. You rode in cars and wnet by this shrinking ray gun. There were snowflake images projected up on the wall.

Okay, so I just googled 'shrinking ride at Disney' and found a Wikipedia site that lists all PAST attractions at Disneyland! How cool is that! The ride I am remembering was called:

1967–1985, Adventure Thru Inner Space This originally Monsanto Company sponsored ride seemed inspired by Fantastic Voyage, a popular film of the year before the ride was first presented. It was a dark ride that pretended to shrink the rider gradually down to microscopic size within a snowflake, then further to view a water molecule in the flake, then finally to the point where one could see the throbbing nucleus of a single oxygen atom (but didn't "dare" shrink further), with electrons zooming all around. The ride's entryway featured a floor-to-ceiling spiral network of strings down which evenly spaced droplets of oil slowly ran, appearing to be sparkling liquid beads in nearly suspended animation. From the line inside the entry, line-standers could watch other riders in their 3-person cars disappear into a shrinking machine and then see the other shrunken riders (actually scale-model cars and riders) appear in perfect synch and then disappear into the ride. Within the ride at one point, a gigantic eye perused the riders through a huge microscope lens. Now the site of Star Tours.

Great question of the day!!

My favorite character is TIGGER!!! I find that I relate to him because I try to be positive and upbeat (as opposed to doom & gloom Eeyore! ;) ). While I cannot bounce around on my tail, I can leave people with a feeling of goodness and happiness. I love Tigger!! I have met him on many occasions. Of course, Crystal Palace is the easiest place to see him and I look forward to giving him a hug in December.

I do talk to the characters when we go up to them. I think it's very sweet when they try to "communicate" back. It's a great experience for the kids too! ;)

I have 2 favorite character encounters. The first was when my now 13 y/o DD was 5 y/o. We were at Animal Kingdom and she went up to get an autograph from Baloo and he put the book on her head to sign it. Then when she went to get it back from him he kept putting it way up out of her reach...over and over and over again she would jump up and try to get it. HILARIOUS to watch!!

My 2nd favorite encounter was with my now 4.5 y/o DD when she was 3 y/o. She was very sleepy so I pushed her around Epcot in her stroller while DH took our other 2 girls on Soarin'. We rounded the corner and there all by his lonesome was DOPEY. All alone--no handler, no one nearby. He tilted his head and waved to my daughter. She suddenly woke up a bit more and got out of her stroller and ran to him. Dopey got down on one knee and she ran to his arms. She got big big hugs and then Dopey did the sweetest thing. He cradled her in his arms and rocked her and made the "ssshhhh" signal to me, like he was going to get her to sleep. It was just the sweetest thing and honestly must have gone on at least 5 minutes. She still talks about this little encounter and loves to watch Snow White because of it!

A bit later we brought our other 2 over to the same spot and there was Dopey, this time with a handler, so we got back in line to say hello. When we got up to him he knelt down again and hugged all 3 of my girls, but gave a sweet little hug to Katie again. It was just priceless. :lovestruc

Can I play? Even if I am not a Round 2er??

My favorite Disney Memory...before September 7th...would have been hard to narrow down.

But now...

My favorite Disney Memory was being with the Family of the Day - a Make a Wish family - on Labor Day this year. His wish was to see the Steam Trains in Disney World.

Here are a few pics. A picture is worth a thousand words.

Lucas gets his wish...

Loved this... how wonderful for Lucas and his family. Thank you for sharing this:flower3:

I havent had a chance to catch up yet on the question of the day answers- can't wait-! But wanted to tell you all that the mammogram today went smoothly but did nothing to answer my questions. They did tell me I could get a copy of both the report and film in a few days, and I will. But I truly had an epiphany tonight as I was with my DD2 at our Mommy & Me dance class- I refuse to let fear rule me. As a Christian I know that my God gies before me, hemming me in, and whatever happens we will deal. I refuse to waste any more of my precious time worrying of the what ifs.

And tomorrow I will answer today's question and tomorrows! Can't wait to catch up... Unfortunately, after the mammo, I had to rush to court where I was til 5. And now it's bath & bedtime for a sleepy dd2. And her mommy. Love to all... You really are ALL the best. I felt all your good thoughts, pixie dust and prayers today.

You go girl!:cool1: There is definitely power in prayer! I'm glad to hear that you have dug deep into your faith.:woohoo: Keep us posted please.

We stood in line for a picture with him and he just electrified my mother with happiness. It was a miracle to see.

Who is your favorite character and why? Do you relate to the way they act, look, or sound on television and movies? Have you had a one on one encounter with this character while visiting Disney? Do you talk and interact with your character now that you are an adult or with any of the characters? What was your most memorable character encounter and this one can be while watching your family interact?

I have always been a Tinkerbell fan... mostly because I think we have the same temperment! She seems like the original take charge woman to me, and I like that. And now she seems to be developing into DD2's favorite too... and I swear it's not my design! I was trying to steer her towards a princess that looked more like her, since I'm white and she's Chamorro (a pacific islander)- maybe Mulan or Jasmine. But, no, "Pinky-bell" is her fav by far. We haven't had a chance to meet her yet, the fairies line was ridiculous the last time we were at MK.

But BY FAR the best character encounter I've had ever was with Chip at the Garden Grill this January- it was my first trip back to WDW after 4 years overseas, and my DD2's first trip, and this was the night we arrived. I always seem to beeline to Epcot (it always gives me that "I'm really *here* feeling for some reason)... so we walked into the Garden Grill, no ADR, got sat at a booth, the place was empty. I was a little concerned how DD would be with the characters, never having been around anything like that, especially considering that she screamed bloody murder when Santa came within 50 feet of her at Christmas!

So, I told Chip that she may be a little timid and first she hid behind me, but then Chip started playing peek a boo, and Gemma was SO into it! I kept thinking that Chip had to go to other tables to see other people, so I told DD to say bye bye, that Chip need to go see other friends, and Chip shook his head no, and made an "I love you" gesture to my DD, indicating he wanted to stay with us! He must have stayed over 30 minutes, sat at our table, listened to my DD sing songs, watched her color, played peek a boo with her.... it was SO special.

I made sure to stop by guest relations on the way out to tell them about how special Chip had made my DD very first night in WDW so amazingly special. I've got the video to prove it!

Favorite Character! Another great question!

Definitely Mickey Mouse. It started for me back when I was a wee-Junior High School student. We had our first 'research paper' assignment where we had to research someone famous and write a 10 page paper on the person and why we liked or disliked them. I chose Walt! And so the real obsession with all things Disney began. Once I read about Walt and how he lost rights to his first cartoons and all of his staff went with the big bad company except for Ub Iwerks who followed Walt. Then they started over and came up with a new cartoon based on Walt's pet mouse as a child. How Lily convinced him to name the mouse Mickey and not Mortimer and how Ub Iwerks drew him and Walt was his voice. From there, Walt's creativness and shear business strategy would form into this worldwide congolomorate and Mickey Nouse would become this icon for all ages. Wow! This is a man who truly made his dreams come true! And did it all in a family friendly way. So, I pay homage to Mickey 'The Boss' Mouse.

As for interaction, we have a tradition. The day we arrive, we head over to the MK, have lunch at Crystal Palace, then head straight back to TT to say hello to Mickey & Minnie. The last two years, we have been the only ones in the room with them when it was our turn. My DS 4 loves Mickey as much as I do. This last year, the interaction was so wonderful. (See my picture as my avatar.) When we were leaving, Josh waived to Mickey and Minnie and said "Have a great day Mickey & Minnie!" All of the cast members went Awww.... Gives me goosebumps just thinking about it!

We owe it all to a Mouse! And a man with a dream!

Here is the question for Waiting Day #6:

Who is your favorite character and why? Do you relate to the way they act, look, or sound on television and movies? Have you had a one on one encounter with this character while visiting Disney? Do you talk and interact with your character now that you are an adult or with any of the characters? My favorite character is Belle. I have always been an avid reader and so relate to wanting to read EVERYTHING!

My favorite character interaction though was with my DS. He was 5 and just diagnosed with autism/Asperger's Syndrome. His favorite character is Peter Pan. From the time he was 2 he could quote large sections of the movie and book.

We were at the parade and DSIL and DB brought a package for DD (then 8). Inside was a white wedding gown Cinderella dress with the glass slippers, wand and a Cinderella's carriage silver charm necklace. My DS looked on longingly and in a small little voice said, "I guess there's nothing in that bag for me."

We gave handed him a bag with a Peter Pan costume inside. Both children quickly dressed and the parade started. As the Peter Pan float came across the bridge from Liberty Square my son started jumping up and down and yelling, "Peter. It's me. It's me. Look Peter!" Peter Pan made eye contact with him and waved right at him. Then he looked at himself and at DS and pointed back and forth like Wow we are dressed just alike. DS was beside himself. "See he knows it's me. He really knows it is me."

DS floated on this memory for the next three days. But in that instant all the anxiety over his diagnosis changed for us. He was still the same little boy he had been before his diagnosis. We applied a label to him. He did not change at all. :cloud9:

You are very welcome! :)

If you are NOT a Round 2er...and want something to do while you join our friends waiting...

Check out my "It's a PROTEST!" post on the Community Board.

Disney is currently making our Wish Families (including kids like Lucas) pay $149 for a PhotoPass CD. They allow the families on Disney Property to purchase one for $99.00.

I have emailed and called Disney - but no luck so far. The final answer seems to be that they won't extend the discount to the GKTW kids.

If you ARE a Round 2er - Congrats again! - and please disregard that message...as protesting a Disney policy right now would probably not be a good idea. ;)

Just want to throw in here that it was ROY who made all the business (money) happen! Walt never even thought about cost or investment/return... If it weren't for Roy, none of it would have ever gotten into the real world!

And ya, good ol Ub! I admire loyalty!

Ugh, just got done w/a week of jury duty/service, at various times it went from being intensely boring to interesting to amusing to stressful. I met some really great people though, and feel like I learned a lot about life-the justice system, my beliefs...but now I'm beat.

Missy--sometimes it does take that storm to realize how firmly rooted in my faith I really am but seem to forget sometimes as I let fear take over. I'm thankful you found some peace and "rest" today and cont praying for you.

Twende--I love the pic of your mom and remember taking my grandma twice--her "childlike" way of taking in "the World" was so fun to watch and I have such fond memories of sharing that with her as she is not able to make it back there.

My first memory of Disney was walking in to the MK, I was about 19 and went as a nanny for the family I worked for, something "clicked" and I just GOT it, and I loved the street sweeping machines too, lol.

I love Mary Poppins! She is my favorite character!!

My favorite Disney character? I think it's always been Cinderella. I remember having this Cinderella watch when I was a kid - it had interchangeable bands and it was my favorite thing to wear. I have just always loved Cinderella - it's one of my favorite Disney movies and of course, the castle is my absolute favorite Disney landmark. [Although I have to say I also LOVE Pooh, Tigger, Eeyore, Mickey and Minnie. It's so hard to pick just one. But Pooh would be my 2nd favorite!]

I've had many encounters w/ Cinderella (and the others) while at WDW..and yes, I do still talk to the characters, even though I'm an adult. :) I think @ times I'm more excited than my kids are when we meet the characters!

The BEST character encounter we've had happened in April at 1900 Park Fare - we were having dinner (there were 10 of us) and we must've been at the 'perfect' table -- right in the center of the dining room -- because Cinderella and Prince Charming starting dancing the waltz right next to us. And then, they motioned to my daughters and my niece to join them as they danced! And suddenly DD2, DD5 and DN4 were waltzing with Cinderella and the Prince! I was crying, of course...and trying to take pictures as the Prince twirled each girl...oh it was pure magic.

Hi,
I just found this thread. I noticed the names of the 2nd round. I got an email that I had made it through to the second round and I will hear on the 27th if I made i through the next round. But my name was not on the list. Does anyone have an idea if the email I received was a mistake?

Welcome Geogat! The list on the first page was compiled here by Twende. Just get your info to her and she can add you to the list. Welcome to our little group! :)

You are correct! I did not mean to snub Roy! He definitely was the financial genius who kept the company together.
