Maybe this is a silly question, but how much information generally changes year to year? None of the 2011 guide books are for sale and I want one now, lol :rolleyes1

Would it be a waste of money or is most of the information the same?

I know any pricing included in the book will be different, but that isn't a big deal.

Thanks experts!! :thumbsup2

The Unofficial Guide for 2011 is supposed to be out in August. I preordered mine from Amazon already!!

OOpps, it looks like it got moved to a Sept. release date. Most likely because Disney has delayed releasing their 2011 pricing.

I'm not aware of any significant changes for 2011, except possibly in the dining plan. I do know though that if you get the PassPorter, you can just check the website for any updates. Since your trip is early in the year, I would say just go ahead and buy this year's.

I say buy BOTH!:)

I buy Birnbaum's every year and consider them WDW "souvenirs".:)

It is fun to look through the ones from years ago from time to time.:)

I'm still using my 2008 Unofficial Guide. Not very much has changed. I also subscribe to touringplans.com and can get any updated information there.

That's funny, I was going to say the same thing. You can use the 2008 guidebook and be fine. Not that much has really been changing the past three years.

When I contacted the UG folks about this they mentioned that the biggest change for 2011 will be Toontown - that said their website will include any changes from 2010 to 2011. Depending on when you're traveling in 2011 it might be worth waiting until the next guide comes out. I also preordered through Amazon but mine says it will ship at the end of the month.

Passporter has a sale on their 2010 books this weekend -- buy one get one free.

Good to know! I got a gift card and wanted to use asap to buy a Disney book, but I didn't think I could wait until the fall for the 2011 books, so I bought the 2010 Passporters...

Of course I also have a copy of Birnbaum's from 2005 (1$ at the library used book sale!!) and most things were the same even then! Obviously some things are very different, but the two books together were really helpful!

If you read posts here frequently and ask questions, you are already way ahead of the curve.

Supplement that approach with a book published in the past few years is also a good stategy.

Finally, we subscribe to the touringplans site each year. We find the crowd calendar, the blog, and the "Lines" feature very helpful. Our daughter has the phone in the family that can access the internet so we like using "Lines" while in the park. You can also check it while at home to see the live reports about what is going on in each park. It's almost like being there if you have a good imagination!

keep in mind that a 2010 guidebook was written in early 2009 and published in mid-fall 2009. likewise, the 2011s have already been written. passporter does tend to lag a bit behind the others.

that said, as a peer reviewer for passporter, i have access to the 2011 guide as it's been written and there really isn't all that much difference so far (admittedly i'm behind the review schedule). most of my proposed changes are aesthetic and the biggest differences will just be pricing information.

Alternately, you could check a couple of 2010 guides out from your local library system to tide you over until the 2011 books are released. That way you could try several (UG, Passporter, etc.) and make sure you will be buying the one that suits you best.
