2010 cruise info

FYI, I just got off the phone with DCL. Both online and phone reservations open at 8 am ET on 10/14/08. So all us West Coasters will be having lots of coffee at 5 am! :surfweb:

This is not good news for this Central time zone mom. We walk out the door at 7 a.m., and even if the car pool line is moving quickly, I won't make it back home before 7:40 a.m. And wouldn't it figure that my children are out of school on 10/13, but not on 10/14.

I wish I was sitting on the West Coast, because I'd be more than happy to take care of a ressie at 5 a.m, while everyone else in the house is sleeping.

I got looking at the prices and as much as I WANT to do a med cruise, it won't be happening on Disney. The prices are way out of line. I can cruise RCCL or Carnival for half the price.
I know we get 'Disney quality' and that is how I can justify paying $$$ for our January western cruise, but we want the Disney experience for that cruise.
If I am cruising in Europe (where I have never ever been before!), I am not going there for Disney stuff - I am going to see Europe, and really am not going to pay double so that Mickey Mouse can be on my ship. I plan to be out sightseeing every last minute it is in port, and at night, I will probably be too tired to worry about a pirates party or special broadway style shows. Those things are important to me for our upcoming Caribbean cruise, but not in a Med cruise.
I just can't justify spending $5000 for 2 of us in an inside room (and I would want a balcony for Europe!), plus $2000 on airfare, plus at least $1500 for excursions (Its not like the Carribbean where I happy to hop a cab to the beach and relax all day -I want to SEE EUROPE, and will pay for good excursions). Plus spending, and before I know it I have spent 10 grand on a vacation for my daughter and I.

I agree with you 100%. I looked at the prices and almost choked. It is just crazy how much that cost. :scared1:

I just got the OK from DH to book the northern cruise from Dover! I can't believe it, but he said we had to have a cat. 6 too! Man, I am going to be on speed dial that day! I wish we could go through a TA and have them do all the work. But we may transfer one or both of us over to DVC points later. So I will have to just take my chances. I am so excited!:woohoo:

Same here. Plus, for us the ship is the MAIN attraction and it would be crazy to spend this kind of money when we'll likely be able to take a 7 day cruise on the new DCL ship the following year for less than half (probably MUCH less than half) of what one of these trips would cost us. Europe is also not something most would want to see as a series of hurried shore excursions.

True. I have never been to Europe and would really love to go but it is just so much money right now.

I think we will just be happy with our Western Caribbean cruise that cost half the money. :goodvibes

My goodness - does Disney really think it can justify 3x the price of ships like Carnival? Inside guarantee is only $1800pp (albeit in July 2009 - they haven't released 2010 yet) - and Europe is so port intensive you are hardly on the ship.

My DH and DD did Carnivals med cruise last year and really enjoyed it. Not many kids (we travelled in Sept which is Australia's school holidays but not the US) but it really didn't bother our daughter as we were out on excursions all day almost every day.

She went to the kids club for an hour or two the sea days (only 6 or so in her age group) which was enough for her to meet someone to swim with and run around the ship a little. She went to a dance lesson with one of the entertainers and was the only person there but was thrilled when he spotted her in the audience and waved to her. Plus she loved dressing up (don't do that so much on Disney) and being fussed over as only one of a few 'princesses' on board (she was 10 at the time) but at the same time being treated as a grownup

No, I'm afraid it is back to Carnival for us!

I'm confused on this one. Normally I can figure it all out myself but I have heard about a special Christmas cruise for 2010. Will that open up on 10-14 as well? Anyone know the ports of call for it?

As I consider the 2010 cruises, I'm wondering if we will see discounted pricing for some of the European spring cruises down the line.

I figure it's probably a good idea to book right away if I want the Northern European cruises - as there aren't too many sailing dates and, except for the early June cruise, these cruises fall right in the busy summer months.

However, I'm wondering what's going to happen with those April and May Med and W. European cruises. I'm having a hard time seeing those fill up right away, as it isn't that easy to take kids out of school for 2 plus weeks and most of Disney's cruisers are families. Are they planning on selling these cruises to Europeans? And will Europeans be willing to take their kids out of school for such a long stint? Will these cruises end up being discounted as the June Med cruises were in 2007? They're discounting the TA cruises right from the start and I'm wondering if the April and May 2010 Mediterranean cruises won't end up having some price reduction.

Perhaps I'm just being hopeful. It will be interesting to see how these cruises sell next week with the economy the way it is.

Depending on the dates you may get some Aussies in April (depending on when Easter is) as our kids get 2 weeks off at Easter and Aussies do tend to travel alot. Also one of the shortest flights to experience DCL - takes us 28 - 32 hours to get to Florida (my dad lives there) and only around 18 to Europe

We will be on the Magic on the 14th and am wondering if anyone knows how booking will be there? Does anyone know how that works to have new cruises released for booking while on the ship? I'm assuming it will be available to do, but not sure since on land everyone will be rushing at 8 am? Thanks for any information you can offer!

i also came on here to ask this question! :thumbsup2 i want to book the 7night barcelona to dover (which only sails on one day) but will be on the ship on the 14th, and on an excursion in the morning. do you think that it will sell out that quickly and i'll miss my chance? or have very long lines to book while on board that day? if anyone knows how it works with booking these while on the ship i would appreciate it also!

What do you guys think...Estonia or Finland which would you pick and why? We just can't decide!!

The prices are listed on the website. Click on your preferred cruise, and there will be an underlined area that states prices or rates.
One thing I find frustrating is that there is a "fuel surcharge". Since these are new prices, I feel those surcharges should be gone, and those fees just rolled into the price. IMHO, this is not an ethical way of increasing prices when it is known from day one.
I don't expect smoke and mirrors from Disney!

Well IF we can save enough to go we will be going for Estonia simply because it is the only one that will fit in with school holidays here in the UK and then only just. I am seriously shocked at the price - I knew it would be expensive but I was thinking I could get our little family of 4 (DD1 who will be 5 and DD2 who will only be 2) onboard for around $8k but it is looking closer to $10k even for lowest available cabin fare once you factor in the fuel supplement.

You'ld be surprised. Besides our Ozzie friends :thumbsup2 some of us in Europe also have enough oppertunity to travel in april/may. I haven't got kids, so would have to look the dates up but for instance overhere in the Netherlands it is quite normal to have 2 weeks of easter/springholiday. The precise dates can vary a bit, but that would leave a great oppertunity for those with kids. Besides that we've got a fair amount of other national holidays within that period. Kids get free for that also, which might mean some parents now can pull their kids out of school because it'll actually take up less school days. Some schools are more willing to let parents do this than others. Also we've got the option to pull kids out of school for a major vacation if one can proove the parent(s) can not travel during any schoolvacations because of their job. Lower prices, likes etc. are a no go, but if dad or mom has a job stating they can only travel in certain months; have fun and take the kids with you. Gouvernment approved.

However looking at the prices? :lmao: :rotfl2: I reckon over most peoples dead bodies. We can do 2 weeks of a land based Med holiday for about €600,- p.p. (about $840,- at the moment) including the flight down and transportation. For that kind of money one could do months of the Med on land instead of a short 11/12 days running around.

I looked into the Northern one, really like the itinerary and being able to embark only a short ferry ride from home, but at these prices; over my dead body. It'll cost me about $1000,- more to fly into BCN and back from MCO, but all in all it still is way cheaper to do the TA than the Northern. Thanks, but no thanks.

What will the deposit be for the 10 night med cruises... I need both suite and cat 4-12

Im wondering about deposits too! Anyone know roughly how much they were last time?

While we would've liked to wait to sail July 18th (as that's the same date that we did our Med cruise plus it gives us 12 extra days to get our final payment in), we have selected the July 6th sailing because it goes to Finland. My grandmother was from Finland, so it was an easy decision for us. I'd love to go see the country where she was from.

I was also wondering on the deposits; Russia would be so amazing to see! But, it just might be the Sept repo for us as I don't know what my DH will think about those prices.:rolleyes1

We're in! Whoohoo! We sailed on the maiden voyage in for the Med cruise in 07. This is gonna be awesome.

Any suggestions on how to secure a 1BR suite? Our family is too big for the standard rooms. How fast will they sell out? Hours? Minutes? Days? Weeks?

~Mike
