2009 Discussion-We'll make time fly by!

OK, 2009 people I need cheering up. This whole economy and oil stuff is really stressing me out. To the point where I worry about going to WDW next year. The trip is already paid for (savings) so that isn't the problem but in the back of my head I keep asking myself is it stupid to spend it on a trip.

Worrying if we will have jobs and how much airline tickets will cost us. I really need to stop reading all the news reports they put out but I am addicted to them I think. It just really brings me down.

It is stressful. I am trying to be positive that the trip will happen, but I do have this little voice in the back of my head that tells me it might not. :worried: It's a bummer, but I guess it's better to be realistic. I'm not telling the kids until we have airline tickets (that's the point for me that it's definitely happening - you can always cancel a room ressie or package but you can't cancel the airline tickets!). For now, just plan like it's happening and hope for the best!! :upsidedow

I know how you feel, this whole economy and oil situation is awful  . My hope is that things will get better by the end of the year or so. Maybe a new president will make the difference. Have u seen the bumper stickers that say "gas was $1.46 when Bush took office"? Gas prices really havent been ok since Katrina, so let's hope for no major hurricanes this year.

I even kicked the idea around about not making reservations next month and was going to play the wait and see game. But, I've decided to go ahead and make them. If things don't improve, then we will see about cancelling. We usually fly Southwest so I couldnt get airline tickets until May or so. I've already come to terms that we may have to drive and that will cut our stay down by a few days. Let's all hope for the best, because it's been a long, hard year and we all need a vacation  .

I was going to schedule a meal for the night we get there, but my fiance doesn't want to be rushed.

I want to do a meal the first night, as well. I don't plan on going to any parks that night, so I think a meal would get us in Disney mode (not that I'm not ALREADY IN Dis Mode ;) )

This is why we need these trips! Life is stressing everyone out......we need a break from the reality of oil and gas prices. It's time for some FUN :woohoo: !!!!!

Febuary 2009 for us!
it seems far, but it's only 7 months away!, and ADR dates are coming up in about 40 days :) ( 180 day ADR's)

They got moved to the Rumors Board, but there is talk of a new type of dining plan. It was found on a UK site.

Thank you spokanemom. I did see that discussion start up a little bit. I pretty much ignore that. I want to see a new dining plan, but something more guest friendly. ;)

I'm going FEB 21-Mar 1!

Just an fyi - there are rumors that WDW is going to go back to 90 day ADRs (except for the castle, chef mickeys, and victoria and albert's, which will still be 180 days). I think those going from mid-January on will be affected by the change. WDW is doing some kind of computer upgrade/change to software. The 90-day thing may be a temporary situation for the next year or so.

I've also read rumors that they may not start releasing the calendar schedules until 90 days out as well --- I'm really hoping that rumor is wrong. I like to plan out my park days in advance by checking the calendar for park opening/closing times, special events, fireworks shows, parades schedules, etc -- this makes it easier to determine which ADRs I want.

I am OK with the 180 days for ADR's. I already know now where I want to eat in Sept. 2009. Reading the posts though it looks like most people prefer the 90 days.

I am with you - I pretty much have an idea, plus the sooner I can start booking things the sooner it feels real to me. I think 90 days is a little to close to leaving for me.

I also like seeing when the parks hours are going to be 180 days out.
I hope that Disney doesn't change this

Happy 4th everyone!!! :bday: AMERICA
Let me start off this morning by saying thank you to all our troops and families thereof. My prayers and pixiedust: for anyone in our DIS family that has loved ones away from home.

Now, as for our planning for our trip.... I had the most bizzare dream last night. I am already starting to get my high anxiety DIS dreams, and I still have a long way to go! Part one, we are off the plane and going to MK, DH's grandma wants to stop and get a cinnamon roll at Bob Evans...:sad2: Well, I have all the tickets for everone with me, and they can't get into the park without them. Then they come back and decide that MK is too far away to go to anyway.:confused3

Part 2, (new dream) The 3 of us are getting ready to go to the airport to leave IND, but our friends (who are always late) are going with us. Well, friend 1 just gets home from work when we should be leaving. We all jump in the car to go to the airport and I realize that we brought no luggage with us:eek: and when we turn around to come back to get it, I realize that I haven't printed any tickets either! And we only have 40 minutes before our plane takes off.

I don't know if I can take 15 months of this!

We were supposed to go the beginning of April 2009 but things have had to change...due to finances and such so now I have to wait until November 2009...this time I was promised it would not change...it actually works out better as my DD10 has her birthday on November 6 so we will be going the week of
November 1-7, 2009...we will be staying at POP still though...that will never change...

It looks like we will be there at the same time! I have also heard the info on the ressies, and I guess that is fine with me, as long as everyone going during that time has the same adr date. So we will make our CM one as soon as we can.

Where are you staying?

Dana

Can I join?? I'm going Sept '09. My last trip was in '02. My DH wanted to wait until our DD is 7 or 8 to go again so I went with the 7 yrs old option :lmao: . I've been reading and lurking and dreaming for the last several year and now we are almost close enough to do the REAL planning.

:welcome: I would've chosen the 7 year option, too ;) !

I am really confused about this 90 day window thing and how it's supposed to "grow" back to 180. So is everyone gonna have different "windows"? Some at 160, some at 142, some at 98, etc? I'm confused!! I hope they make it official soon and put out some sort of calendar so I know when to call, LOL!!! I do want CM and CRT, so I'll probably be calling at 180 for those.

I'm working tonight and it's VERY slow (yay!), so I decided to work on our itinerary some more, especially the dining. The talk about CM the first night really got me thinking. So, here's what I have now!!!

5/1/09 Friday- arrive in Fla, stay offsite (likely at Country Inn and Suites Calypso Cay), eat dinner offsite

5/2/09 Saturday - Free breakfast at CI&S, early check-in at the Poly, head to MK for the day (CS lunch). Get into room in afternoon, naps, swimming, etc.
Dinner at Chef Mickey's aroudn 6 PM
Evening at the Poly, hanging out, unpacking, relaxing

5/3/09 Sunday - Epcot for the day (CS lunch), back to Poly for swimming and naps
Dinner at Kona around 5:30 and head to the MK for the evening - possibly for Spectro at 9, Wishes at 10 (we didn't see it in the park last time b/c DD was afraid of fireworks so I can't wait to this time!)

5/4/09- Monday -- Animal Kingdom (CS lunch)
Poly for swimming, naps
MGM for the evening. Mama Melrose Fantasmic Dinner at around 5 PM. Fantasmic at 9

5/5/09 - Tuesday - MK DH and DS have CS lunch; DD and I do CRT around 12. Possible do the MK Barber shop right at rope drop!! We'll likely stay for the 3 PM parade this day, then go for short naps.
DTD for evening - OOP dinner at T-Rex (assuming it's not on the DDP)

5/6/09 - Wednesday - Blizzard Beach (CS lunch)
Crystal Palace dinner around 5:30, evening in MK or back at the Poly

5/7/09 - Thursday - our day is open - wherever we want to return to!!! (CS lunch); Dinner at LeCellier at around 5:30, evening in Epcot, Illuminations at 9

5/8/09 - Friday - MK in the morning and then depart around noon/1. CS/snack lunch.

I also redid the DDP calculations with our new choices and I am SHOCKED at how much we stand to save again. This is based on the 2008 plan of course. Not counting the tip in either calculation (b/c we'd be paying it OOP regardless) - we will save $273.03! Not shabby. This making educated guesses on where our CS's would be and what we would eat, figuring out everything including tax. This is a good deal more savings than I was originally thinking because of switching CM to a dinner not a brunch and doing the MM Fantasmic pkg (get appies!). Plus, food prices have gone up since my last calculating. I also realized I really do not care if the appy is added back in - we have 2 buffets and it's included at MM and CRT. That leaves only Kona (probably won't order one, just eat the bread) and LeCellier (possible order 1 bowl of the soup, or eat the kids'!)

Sooo...if the 2009 plan is exactly the same (doubt it!) we'll save a ton. If the prices go up, even by a good bit and even without adding a thing, we can still save. And that's assuming food prices remain the same. If those go up even more, we'll save more. With the way we eat, and having 2 kids on the plan, I think it would be hard for us NOT to save! Still hoping they add the tip back in though (wishful thinking I guess!)

Oh, and our OOP expenses will be tips and the one appy (approx. $100), maybe a few alcoholic drinks on the Poly beach, and our T-Rex dinner. I'm trying to save on the T-Rex by doing it on our CRT day (doing that on the plan now, btw). DD and I will have eaten a big, filling lunch, so I'll probably just get an appy. She'll probably share food with all of us, so our cost there should be lower.

I'm pretty happy with the way this worked out and don't think I'll change much. Thanks for reading this far, LOL!!

I agree... it will be completely confusing for everyone in time in between. I could just hear the CM say "sorry, ma'am, you can only book 137 + 10 days out from the begining of your stay" :rotfl:

Just wondering why you've decided to stay offsite for the first night?

Rumor board is spewing rumors of Spectro leaving in the fall... just FYI in case you hadn't heard that one. That truely upsets me because I have never gotten to see it either and it was on my "must do" list.

The way I have calc'd it, the plan comes up about even - within $100 of my "projected" meal cost - so it was a convinience thing for me. If it goes up too much, I might have to do all that work again!!!:sad2:

September 09 Hope it comes soon and then slows down so I can charist the time for all it is worth. This will be my 65th B'Day celabration trip and first Disney Halloween Party. Hope I can manage the heat. I usaly go for the Christmas Holiday season but I have always wanted to do the Halloween Party so I am going for it.
