2008-2009 Cheer Parent Thread!!!!

My kids just got back from their first competition. I have three of them on a Youth L1 team-Carolina Crossfire. This is only the second year CCF has been around. Anyway, they attended Universal Spirit-Spirit of Hope in Charlotte, NC and came in 1st out of 7 teams! They are so excited! We can't believe they won their very first competition!

The next two weekends are busy for us. Spirit SPorts Nationals in Worcester MA then Athletic in Providence where they are giving out 2 PAID bids to Worlds (we got one of the PAID bids last there here). Would love to upgrade the At Large Bid we have for a full Paid bid!!!

Good luck! We have a comp in Indy 2/8 then Chicago 3/1. Chicago will be dd's first comp back from her broken arm. Then we have one in Cincinatti at the beginning of April and the all-level internationals in May in Columbus. Is anyone going to any of those?

Donnajon - wow 3 kids on the same squad - that works out great for scheduling. Congrats to them for their win - very exciting!!

I'm not going but I know World cup is going, Odyssey got a full paid this weekend in Indy and SS has theirs already. Starlites got their Jr bid too. CJA will be going and their Sr 5 has a partial paid at this time. I think Devils goes to this one too and their Large 5 has a full paid. Just Cheer is going and their Sr 5 got a partial paid this past weekend down in Charlotte where I was with my daughter. These are the Jersey teams I know going to it. Good Luck with that bid. I know you guys will do amazing, Celebrity always does!

I saw Steph's team on Sat...when those stunts hit...watch out!!! I still couldn't pick her out...I tried LOL! I figured she'd have an ankle brace on but there were a few flyers with them on! I was sitting in the first row right behind priority seating and I almost considered just yelling out "Rosemary!" to see who turned around LOL! Ahhh....maybe I'll see you in Providence!

I was thinking of you Brenda everytime I saw someone from Sparks. I thought ALL the Sparks teams I saw were great. A few problems but better now then next week!!

Steph is the front left flyer!! Right ankle brace. She it and had a great performance. All I watch is her so I didn't realize how the rest of the team did. On day 2, a tumbler got in Steph's path for her double and she could not get in position so she quickly moved around and got ready for her hitch kick double basket. I got nervous but she pulled it off so nicely, didn't miss a beat. I was quite proud.

Morale has been down with this team. Few issues with some of the kids and the coaches will be addressing it on Wednesday before practice. The team is so talented, they just need to come to practice!!!!

See you in Providence...........

my girls will be at the UNH Winterblast on Sunday. They are on a Junior Level 2 team and my younger daughter crosses down to the youth team to help them. I am not sure how they will do. I am afraid that their routine may not be good enough this year. We are with a very small gym and there are not enough kids to do real placements. They were doing level 3 stunting and tumbling during the summer, but because not enough girls can tumble, they had to move down to 2. Only 11 girls out of 21 have a back handspring and only 4 have back tucks.

Well, successful teams grow gyms so I think they'd be smart to try and make them a strong level 1 team rather than struggling in level 2...that's JMO though!!! I never really get it when I see a team continually struggling in a division where they clearly can't compete. It may be a bit disappointing to the kids but I think in the long run if they are successful it'll wash out the initial disappointment! Then they can come back and be a solid level 2 next season!!!

My daughter's youth 2 team was 2nd again this weekend!!! They were great on Saturday but today had a couple bobbles and not as much energy...so they ended up 2 hundreths of a point out of first! This is their 3rd

Brenda............Sparks Junior 5 was the deal!!! I LOVED their routine!!! I was soooooooo happy they got an at large bid.

Happy for us to............PAID bid to Worlds. We lost to Odessey by .04.(someone said we had the 2nd highest score of the day but Steph did not hear it from her coaches so we are fully 100% that is true) Nothing to be disappointed at at all. Steph was very happpy. And they changed their first stunt and watered it down after a few had problems last weekend. I think with that back in (it is stretch-stretch tick tock, drop down, up to scorpion, pulled stretch to arabasque, double down) then they will be golden and will give it a good shot!! Rather have the injuries now instead of Dallas.

Spirit Central Sm Sr 5 were amazing. East Elite Sm Sr 5 as always amazing. Had a little bobble today and a little timing issue with tumbling. I enjoyed SPirit Central.........very clean lines and fun to watch. They just didn't have the tumbling that East Elite had or else it would have been a nail biter in my opinion.

Celebrity Jr 5 had problems today. Otherwise their routine is the bomb. OUr youth 5 lost to WC, which was amazing but missing a flyer??? I hope she is alright. BUt, I just don't understand how we lost when they did not have a flyer go up?? Oh well, it is over and the placements were great.

My two best cheer mom friends in the world were up there, one on the Big O and the other on Twinkles... we all came from the same gym last year and had been on teams together for quite a while. My friend on O was holding her breath! Heard you guys rocked it and I was soooo happy to hear you got that bid! You very likely had the 2nd highest score.. as of yesterday the scores, were Odyssey with a 9.6, twinkles with a 9.55 and you guys with a 9.54!! One of the little twinkles was taken out of warmups in the ambulance. She either dislocated or fractured her elbow. Ouch! From how I understand these things, because the stunt is only marked they can't loose credit for it. I guess they were strong enough yesterday to pull them through but I'm sure it was super close. I have no idea but my girlfriend said the youth team was very uspet because they were worried for their team mate. It will be a big blow to them if she is out long term. My other girlfriend (Odyssey) was sooo impressed with the sportsmanship between the two gyms. It's a whole new world for her and she thought you guys were a very, classy gym and your performances lived up to the great reputation as a gym you have. Congrats again on your FULL PAID BID!

Yes, at our old gym, (me, the twink and O mom) we were discouraged from interacting with others, lucky for me I am at a gym that lets us be "free" now too! I LOVE it, I even can room with my WC peeps when we go to the same comps. I could have been kicked out of our old gym for that last year! Sometimes you just never know how green the grass actually is on the other side until you go. LOL about the OKW! that's a true Dis mom in action! You will be at cheersport right? I can't wait to see your daughter's team!
