Let the new season begin!!!

Come one, come all...................let's talk about the wonderful world of competitive and non-competitve cheering!!! Let's talk about our kids accomplishments and goals. Let's chat about fundraising...........let's be positive!!

To begin...............best wishes to all those having to attend try outs in the next few weeks for the upcoming season!!! I hope you all make the team you would like.

Once your team gets a list of competitons, please post them. I have the opportunity of meeting Kristie and her DD's in Atlanta!!!:cheer2: It was so much fun supporting the Tumblebeez!!!

The link worked great!

Goofy! checking in and subscribing.

Checking in....

I'd love to hear any ideas for fundraisers that don't involve us asking friends and family to buy something. We've done candy/drink sales outside of local stores, "flips for tips," and currently, a gym raffle.

Also, suggestions for team bonding activities outside of the gym. We'll probably be having a swim party over the summer, but I'd like to plan something else as well. DD10 is on a Jr. 2 team this year, so we have girls (and a boy) ages 9 up to 13.

Our little gym is growing! We started out with around 50 kids and 3 teams. Going into our 3rd season we're topping 100 kids and 7 teams! We're very excited about the new season ahead! Anyone else out there go to any competitions in Texas?

Some of the team building things we do for our swim team (160 kids from 4 - 18) are a bowling day where we rent out about 20 lanes and the kids bowl. Pasta dinners before meets (age group/team specific) and our kids absolute favorite:
Go Karts with the coaches. The younger kids love to ride in the go karts with the coaches and the older kids.

I know it is not cheer, but team building is team building :goodvibes

Some of the fund raising things we are doing this year (Cheer & swim,) are:

Our professional football team allows groups to come in and man concession stands and receive a part of the profits. So, there will be groups of parents working games. The money made that day will be equally divided into the individual account of the people that worked that game. (This is not through our 501c3 but through the regular parent's booster club.)

Bingo is another big fund raising opportunity for parents. Bingo halls have parent groups come in and do all the work and then get a % of the proceeds for that night.

Many restaurants will do a "x" night if you ask them. We have worked with Old Chicago, Chick Fillet, and Papa Murphy's pizza for different teams our family is involved in. They will designate a night (we usually have one a month) that is our team's night and a percentage of the profits go to the team. This goes in the general fund since no parents actually work it.

has your team considered holding a competition? We hold one once a year and make a few thousand dollars. The first year, not so much, but every year after a little more. !

team builders-we do a sleepover at the gym. the kids love it. they decorate t-shirts, karaoke, pizza party, run around like crazy, we then watch a move and sleep (although there is very little sleeping)

I just signed up. I hope I'm doing this right. I'm so interested to see what everybody in other states are doing for cheer and love reading about the fund raisers. Any help on how to do this would be great!

Please feel free to introduce yourself. We love to root on other gyms!!!!

Hi everyone................we've been pretty quiet around here.

Steph's first practice was last night!!! She did her running tumbling!!! It was the first time since the injury in January!!! I was nervous watching her and I could see the concentration (and nervousness) in her face. She started with ro bhs layout and immediately went to the full. She came out to see if I saw and she ws shaking (with happiness). She said she was going for the double full!! I said NO!!!! Not your first night back tumbling since the injury. I was shocked to see she listened to me (I guess being an RN gives me some creditablity). She did have trouble with her triple toes backs (something that she never had trouble with before). She says she is not concerned (yet).

She didn't fly as some kids were missing due to high school banquets, proms etc.

All in all, it was a good first practice and there are many new faces on her team. Most of her team pretty much aged out this year!!! She's looking forward to a fun year.

Hope everyone else is doing well and their tryouts were successful.

Our comp schedule is still in the air for Nationals. Cheersport or NCA Dallas (not both), WSF Indy or WCA Nashville.

then local one's like Providence Athletic, Spirit Sports, Jungle Jam by Jamfest,
WSF Springfield . That's all I can recall right now.............

We havent had try outs yet for either of my daughters. I pretty much know where they are going tho. The oldest will be a junior in HS and this will be her third year on varsity. Surprisingly she picked HS cheer over AS due to a schedule conflict. This is very determinded group that WANTS all state (indi's and stunt on the HS level) and to at least place at state. Last year their back had so much parental drama it was unreal. She's been replaced and now the stunt group is coed. Sad, but no one wants another year of THAT.

My almost 9 year old will more tham likely be a mini again since she misses the age cut off by 15 days. Our gym is very age appropriate, no little kids on senior teams. it'll be her 5th year as a mini, but I'm actually ok with it. It'll be SUCH an easy year for me. Right now she's tumbling 3 days a week. Try outs for both girls are next week.

Our national schedule isn't set. We have Cheersport in GA, but I think if they go, it will only be the seniors. Several in Washington State because its an easy trip and we love it up there. Good teams, nice people, fair judging. Oregon could use some help.... Looking at going back to the American Showcase in CA, or Sea to Sky in Canada (we all vote for Canada). We all thought Super nationals in IN was on the table, but I guess now it's GA.

Even tho I know where my kids are going to be placed, try outs are nerve wracking! No idea why either. I guess I just like to stress.

Now, who has great fund raising ideas?

My dd had tryouts the first of the month. For the first time in 4 years decided not to be on the AS team. She wants to work on her tumbling. That's great, but they make it hard for the girls to get privates and take classes if they decide not to compete......sigh. She would still be in the gym 4 or 5 days a week.

I am so glad that tumbling went well. That will definitely help build her confidence back. :thumbsup2

Just checking in to see how everyone's new season has begun!!!

Here is a picture from Worlds!! Stephanie is leaning a little more in the opposite direction of the stretch due to her ankle!!

http://jamiechristian.net/html/Chee...d+day2&FILENAME=IMG_1807.jpg&ID=285&offset=16

She did her double full the other day 5 times in a row!!! She is quite happy with it. I did not see it and am actually a little nervous watching!! The ankle is stilllllllll swollen!! UGH. She also did her jump to tuck drills!!!

She lost quite a bit of her flexibility (which is her weakness anyways) while out injured. Starting Monday, she will be taking a stretch and flex class for the entire summer. This should be interesting!!

I am looking forward to heading back to OKW the last week in July!! Anyone else going then?

Hey, Just checking in. I have been elected to start a booster club for our gym. We had one and it ran into trouble as it was a 501c and the people running it did not know all the rules. We are a smaller gym 4 teams and about 70 girls, no boys yet. I might try to do the 501c again, just because a non-profit booster club would probably have an easier time doing fundraisers and/or getting donations. Do any of you send out letters asking family and friends to sponser? Another mom suggested it but I am kind of against it. Its my choice to put them in an expensive sport so I should pay or provide service/product to earn money. What do you guys think?

Hey all! I just found this new thread. Well, we have had our fair share of cheer drama in the last few months. We have gone back to the old gym because I was really not happy with the new place and they up'd their prices and were not even coming close to competing at a decent level (we always finished last or really close to the bottom). On top of them putting my DD on the mini squad for yet another year, when she is working on her tuck and there are kids on the squad who can't even do a cartwheel!!!! But I digress...

Anyway, this week is cheer camp and so far the routine is looking awesome! :thumbsup2 I am so excited to see what the kids will do this year at competitions! Good Luck to everyone and let's have a great cheer year!

Hey! DD10 is an all-star cheerleader along with DS7. A fundraiser our old gym did was a flip-a-thon. Kids would go to the gym and flip for 1-6 hours. The kids would have sponsors. Every hour the kids were there flipping, the sponsors would pay $10 an hour. Good luck at tryouts!:cheer2:

Hey! How is everyone's summer going? I am looking forward to the start of the competitive season. popcorn:: What level is everyone competing in this year?
DD11 is on the competitive jr. high team and DD9 is junior level 3. :cheer2:
Keep us posted on how your season is going.
