2008-2009 Cheer Parent Thread!!!!

Hi all - just found out last night that we're going to WSF Worlds in Columbus, OH May 3rd - anyone else going? It's that international all-levels that we only wanted to get a bid for and they (the gym) didn't want to go to the competition.:lmao:

Congratulations on your bid and your gym deciding to go to All levels Worlds. We won't be there as my DD's season will be over the week before at Worlds!! Good luck.........

Thanks, but I'm not sure how much congratulations is deserved...we got 4th out of 4 but the gym just wants to go to another competition. We were supposed to be done 4/4. On the positive side it does give dd a chance to compete - because of her broken arm the earliest she can be back is mid-Feb.

Sorry I haven't updated but our computer crashed!!!

Anyway, my DD had her private lesson on Wednesday, she seemed to be truly scared then. The coach and I talked and he said that putting her in the beginner class is something that she probably needs to give her a kick in the pants. She is not happy about it at all. But....she will do it by herself as long as someone is standing there prepared to spot her. It could be her coach or her best friend who she is about 6 inches taller than and outweighs her by 10+ lbs. - this is part of the reason I think she is just trying to get attention.

So she will continue to do cheer for right now, I think with the beginner class she will get it back pretty quickly because she is ticked!!! :rotfl:

This week we have a competition and practice everyday this week. This is our last chance to get a bid to the International All Levels. So wish us luck!!!

I hope this works for your DD Esther. Hoping that you are 100% correct (I am not doubting your motherly instinct at all) in that this is just an attention grabber. That way it should resolve itself sooner than later.

Good luck on your last chance for the All Level World Bid.

Good luck this weekend!!!

My niece lost hers in one weeks time. One week she is doing great, the next week she refuses to do the bhs unless one particular coach is spotting her. She is going through a growing spurt and now she is all legs, so her body is not responding quite like she is used to it responding. One mistake, where she landed wrong and now she is completely scared of her bhs.

We did the same thing and have her in privates and a beginning class, going back to the basics of the tramp/bungies, tumble track etc. She is regaining her confidence, but it happens. Especially when the girls are young and growing so quickly.

The beginners class sounds like a perfect solution if she is looking for attention and just might have that tiny bit of fear mixed in that you noticed.

Thanks, we have had practice every day this week, it is looking pretty good. I'll try to record it and post it here. We are really excited because the new routine is much more advanced than the last one so at least we will have higher starting points.

That is similar to what happened with DD. She was doing it one week at practice and the next week she refused. She didn't fall or anything, just stopped doing it. The only thing I can think of is that during tumbling class, the girl in line right in front of her had a bad fall and that scared her.

DD has her next competition this Sunday. She hasn't practiced in a while because of the Holidays and she missed her last competition in December because she took the ACT's. She was sick this past Monday for her first practice since the Holiday's. Hopefully it won't affect her next weekend.

Has she been with the squad long? If so I'd think she'll just fall right back into the routine. DD had her first practice tonight in 8 weeks! She still can't tumble or stunt but they learned a new dance tonight that'll be in their routine and that's basically all they did for 2 hours. I'll tell you - she is exhausted right now!

She won't be competing again until the end of February, she should be cleared to tumble February 1st. She has said she's nervous to tumble again or base...we'll see how it goes. I told her if she is she'll just sit out the rest of the season. Her coach was great tonight and told her that she'll just come back slow, start with very basic tumbling and when she sees that it is fine move up a little bit. We'll see how it goes...

MelanieC, what competition do you have Sunday?

How did it go with the new routine this weekend?

How did it go with the new routine this weekend?

They hit it perfectly!! :woohoo: The judges loved their new routine- last time they said our music didn't go with the routine, and it was too slow...

But we still didn't get a bid they finished 4th out of 5... The competition was fierce! Oh well, I guess we will just have to go the the Athletics Comp in Destin! :rolleyes1

My DD is still not doing her BHS, but she did go and try to do it on her own at practice on Friday night. So we are making progress!!!

The one this weekend is suposedly at Widener University. This is her 3rd year on the High School Varsity squad, the majority of these girls who are 11th graders (the majority of the girls on the squad are 11th graders) have been cheering together since Kindergarten/First Grade.

I bet she was exhausted. It's really hard work - and I am always amazed at how exhausted they are at the end of their routine during a competition. We have a few girls that many times need their albuterol. Tell her to take her tumbling one day at a time!!

Congratulations on hitting the new routine! If the judges loved it, sounds like it was great and all the work was worth it!

And congrats on the BHS progress.

Sorry you didn't get the IALC bid. But an excuse to go to Florida, not too shabby :goodvibes

We were really proud of them. One of their stunts is really hard and they all hit it no problem.

I think our coach may add a new comp just to try again and get an IALC bid. I don't know how many parents would be up for it, but I think that with a little more work on their transition and the final pyramid, we can nail it!

Hey cheer parents - :cheer2: just wondering if anyone else is going down to Orlando for the UCA HS Nationals Feb 5-8?
I am very excited to be going to this event for the second time and will be supporting my daughter (who is a Senior this year) and her co-ed team, PSC United, which is the only one of its kind in our state.
All the other HS teams have gone to a weird, 3 round, all-girl system that looks very strange to me and has no music or dance component to it.:confused3
Since this will be her last comp. as a cheerleader :sad1: (unless she cheers in college) I will be bringing DD 15, DD13 and DH as well.
The team will compete in the Large Co-Ed division, and they have been practising like crazy for weeks now.
Their stunts look great, their tumbling has improved a lot - they all have standing tucks and at least RO BHS BT - but I feel that we may not have enough fulls to get top 5 in this division.
Anyway, the team will be staying at the All Starts resort but me and the fam will be at the HGVC on International Drive a few miles away from the cheer madness!

My DD's team is going Feb. 4-9. They are at the ASSP and I am at POP with another mom. We are competing in large Jr. high. I hope it is warm and sunny!!!:beach:

Good luck everyone.

The next two weekends are busy for us. Spirit SPorts Nationals in Worcester MA then Athletic in Providence where they are giving out 2 PAID bids to Worlds (we got one of the PAID bids last there here). Would love to upgrade the At Large Bid we have for a full Paid bid!!!

Anyone else attending these?

My kids just got back from their first competition. I have three of them on a Youth L1 team-Carolina Crossfire. This is only the second year CCF has been around. Anyway, they attended Universal Spirit-Spirit of Hope in Charlotte, NC and came in 1st out of 7 teams! They are so excited! We can't believe they won their very first competition!
