2007 DVC Member Cruise - SSMC07 - October 21, 2007

Good morning Member Cruisers!

We sail in 21 weeks!

I hope everyone is enjoying their Memorial Day weekend. A big thank you to all who have served or have family serving in the military.

First off there are no silly questions so if you have any more just ask away.

Did you get your confirmation from DVC for the cruise? If so on the second page will list the Cabin/Deck you are on as well as the Category and Dining Request.

Thank you very much for your help. I kept trying to type in the DVC confirmation on the DCL website and it was not working. I am going to grab that envelope and check it out.

Thank you again!!

Kelly

Hi everyone,
I'm sorry to tell you that we will not be sailing with you on this cruise after all. We are booked on the 11-night Med cruise sailing on the 28th July and the Transatlantic sailing on the 18th August. We were going to spend the 10 nights in between the cruises in a hotel in Barcelona. However my husband was concerned to do the Member cruise after taking so much time off work during the summer. So we swopped the Member cruise for the 10-night Med cruise between our existing cruises and are ending up doing 3 back-to-back cruises. A total of 35 nights aboard the Disney Magic.
Maybe next year we'll make it onto a Member cruise.
Hope you all have a wonderful time on your Member cruise!!!!
Charmaine

Char - sorry you will not be joining us on this cruise. Sometimes we have to make decisions that we don't want to. But you have some wonderful cruises booked for the future.

Hope to meet with you on the Member Cruise in the future

I hope you have a great time on all those cruises !!! I am sooooooooooo jealous

Hi guys, looks like my uncle is planning on getting married on Oct 20 so I am not sure if we are going to make it in to FL on Friday as originally expected. We have to be here for the wedding since it's my DM's little brother and my DM is supposed to come on the cruise with us. I am going to try to talk to our priest to see if he could get married at our church a week or two before our cruise. We live 2 minutes away from our church and our kids go to school there so hopefully these dates will be available and the priest will allow it since my uncle is not a member but we are. Sorry this is so long but here is the other dilemma, we have tickets to watch High School Musical on Ice on Friday Oct 19 which will conflict with the rehersal dinner if my uncle can't change the date. uuugggg!!!!

I am glad I found all of this out today before I purchased our airline tickets, which I was planning on doing today. What a mess it would have been.

Hope everybody had a Happy Memorial Day!! Thank you for all the men and women who have served to keep our country safe. oorah, devil dogs!!

Hi all,
Just spent an hour+ reading all the postings for 2007 DVC Member Cruise. THis will be our first disney cruise and the first for our three boys (15, 12, 11). Does anyone else out there have boys these ages? What are you going to have them do? Hang with you, go to the teens area? Ocean Quest? We really don't know what to do. Plus I was quite surprised that the Castaway Cay exersions weren't included in the price. Are they worth the extra money after already putting out so much? Thanks for any info.

Hi Barb,

Welcome aboard. Your boys will have a blast. We have taken our two on previous cruises. We never saw them. I made them eat dinner with us every night and do the excursions. They had so much fun with the other teans they met. They rushed through dinner, but at least I knew they were still alive. They are now 18 & 21 and we have doen the last two with out them. It's hard to fit in too many vacations when they and most of our cash go to college:confused3
We have only done the eco tour and bannana boat on CC. They were both well worth it. The boys did the teen wild side. They loved it. Took them places they could not have gone on their own.

have a great day.

Welcome to the DIS and the DCL forums and welcome to this cruise meets thread for the 2007 DVC Member Cruise. We don't have kids so I can't help in that area. I know friends who have had teenage boys with them in the past have found that they make friends pretty quickly on the ship and do a lot of hanging out with other tweens and teens.

As for the excursions being a separate price - that is normal for all cruises not just this one. We've done some of them (the parasailing, eco tour, and stingrays) and have found them worth it. Other times at the island we just haven't done more than rent a float.

If you want to be included on the web page and for the DIS buttons etc check out the first post of this thread. It has all the info on where you need to go and what you need to send in.

I hope you will stop by often and get to know us as we get to know you. I've found over our last 5 cruises that getting to know your fellow DISers before sailing really adds to the experience.

Theresa - hope it all works out so that you can enjoy the wedding, the ice show and get to the cruise early.

Annette & Amanda - how was Disneyland and Southern California?

Charmaine,

We will miss you, but what a great experience. I am hoping one of the new ships will stay over in Europe. May sure you do a tripreport for the whole trip!!!!

LA was great. Amanda had a better time than I did because of the Best Buy Events I had to go to. She did the tour of movie star homes. She said that was a blast. DLand was great. We went there 2 different days. Stayed at the Dland hotel one night and stayed at Shutters on the Beach in Santa Monica for 2 (got through DVC and would recommend that hotel) it is right on the beach.
I was completly amazed how different Dland is that WDW. It's so small. The rides are just as great though. CA was a blast.
Went to Universal Studios with Best Buy and had the VIP treatment. No waiting for rides, private tour of the sets and the prop dept.
But I can't wait for Oct. to go "home"

I am going to rely on the experts here. In your opinion when is the best time to fly in and how do you get to the boat??? Also what time do we return into port as we might be arranging for family who are meeting us down there to pick us up. (mom wants to see the cruise ship!!!)

Thank you

Hi, at the time of sailing I will have two boys 12 and 10. They will probably meet and will be hanging out the whole time we are on board. Can't wait to meet all of you guys.

Sounds like you had a great time. We stayed at Disneyland Hotel last time we went and really enjoyed it. Shutters on the Beach looks really nice.

Disneyland is smaller but also more intimate in my opinion. Plus it has some cool things WDW doesn't have like the Matterhorn and Indiana Jones.

Haven't been to Universal Studios in over 25 years but it sounds like the way you guys did it is the way to go.

Thank you

After 9 cruises we have found that the best time to fly in is the day before. We started doing this on the first member cruise which was in February. We were afraid of what weather we may face on the day of sailing since we come from Chicago. It worked great. We had another cruise that year in May and since we weren't afraid of the weather we fly in the day of the cruise. No problems with flying in but we were so tired (getting up at 4 am to get up and to the airport for our 7 am flight) that we agreed coming in the day before is the way to go.

We've done two different things. Sometimes (like this time) we stay at WDW the night or two before. This year we're coming in sometime late Friday afternoon as we are driving down. We've also flown in, got a one-way rental car to the port area and stayed there overnight and taken the Radisson shuttle.

One other option we haven't done but friends have is to fly in the night before, stay at the airport hotel and take the DCL bus the next morning from the airport.

So you have lots of options.

We return to the port very early. I think usually about 5 am. They usually start disembarking about 7:30 I think. Then everyone has to be off the ship by like 9 am.

thank you for the advice, i think it definitely makes sense to fly in the night before....any thoughts on transfers from AK versus the resorts or the airport???

Sorry - can't help with transfers from AK. Maybe someone else has done it. I've seen the signs over at AK but that is about it.

Since it is a Sunday our usual plan is Mass at Mary Queen of the Universe, a quick breakfast at the nearby McDonalds and then drive over to the port.

We will have two boys with us. One is 6 and the other will be 11.

Since this is our first cruise our "plan" is to spend a lot of time together as a family. But you know how that goes.
