Oh, Cindy, I love theological discussions, but sometimes it is difficult when in a big group. It is very easy to offend people. That said, there are many similarities between Judaism and christianity as a whole. In fact for many years after the death of Jesus, his followers were called Jews. The main difference between the religions are where on the time-line you beleive we are with respect to the saviour coming.

That being said, there are many different sects of christianity, and lots of interesting beliefs associated with them. I have a fun story that illustrates my point; When I was in College there was a girl I went out with who was from a jewish family but was living in a non-jewish dorm. During our high holidays (Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur)..They are roughlly equivalent to Lent...She was dressed up to go to services and was riding down the elevator. Someone asked her where the party was, and she explained that she was going to Temple...Word got out she was jewish and several people tried to get her to convert. One even walked up to her and asked is she would show her her horns...I kid you not, they thought she had horns...I still get a chuckle over this story... I will let Robin or Ian post the story of Chanukah, and we are still deciding traditions for him. We (OK, Robin) have already devorated the house, and have started playing Chanukahmusic. We also have given Ian some Chanukah books. We plan on giving him a big gift on the 5th night of Chanukah because that is his birthday on the jewish calendar...(it is based on the moon rather than the sun; Easter still follows the lunar calendar that is why it changes every year)...

I hope I haven't bored you, but you did ask...I will be glad to answer questions, I can usually find answers...

See you all around...

Ahhh, panic on our roads tonight. Everyone is out from work early -- and no one can get anywhere. Almost every one of my parents were late -- one even sent her SIL to pick up the child. It's not that the roads are that bad, it's just that everyone is in a panic.

Of course, that's easy for me to say.....I have 0 commute time. :teeth:
Ahhh, I don't miss those days at all!!!

You'll appreciate this, Cindy, since you live in Schaumburg. Way back when, when I lived in Hoffman Estates and worked in Schaumburg, I used to work 3rd shift, or what they called 3rd shift (4am-noon). Anyway, one night, we had a snowstorm and I was up at 3am to go to work. I got out onto the roads and Hoffman Estates had done a GREAT job of clearing the roads. As soon as I passed over the city line into Schaumburg, WHAT A MESS!!! I had a horrible time trying to get anywhere. The roads were absolutely terrible, and these were the main roads, not the back roads.

Boy, I don't miss snow!!!

Now I am replying to myself!

Have a great time at DL Mark, Mary, Cheryl and Todd!

The snow will start at 5:20 pm... except it sleeted and iced here yesterday in TX so we are FREEZING our little patoties off now and my driveway is iced over. Not so great when all they have is SAND to throw on it.

I thought that doesn't happen in Texas. Which part of Texas are you in Julie?

I hope they took off on time. It's been snowing here for a couple of hours....at least 3 by the time 5:15 came about.

I know they keep the airport plowed. Doing that job paid a lot of extras for my family when my Dad was alive, that was their contract at O'Hare. My brothers and brother-in-laws would pray for snow just as bad as the kids pray for a day off of school. It was one time when calls in the middle of the night were "good" calls. I don't know who does that now, but I hope flights haven't been delayed.

WOW! DL at Christmastime. What a wonderful time to visit. And, the 4 of them meeting up -- isn't that neat. :cool1:

Stacy, only one of the kids tries to stray and that would be my own. :confused3

We did walk by a store selling baseball hats. That's all they had in there, nicely arranged on racks. The sales guy - a young guy - saw us coming and smiled. I asked him if he minded if we stopped in to check out some hats. He gave me a look of panic, I smiled back at him and said "I'm just kidding" and he let out a sigh of relief and said "I hoped so". It was cute. I couldn't imagine the "fun" the kids would have in there -- trying on all the different hats. At least the salesperson would have had something to keep him busy the rest of the day. :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

That's it just freak the poor salesperson out!!! :rotfl: :rotfl2: :rotfl:

Hey, all of you chocolate lovers out there. Here's a unbelieveable story for you.

Walker just had a dessert. A bowl of mint chocolate chip ice cream -- only kind in our house that Gary bought when he was shopping. When Walker was finished, he handed me his bowl. What's inside? Every piece of chocolate chip. Somehow Walker managed to eat all of the ice cream and not any of the chips. Walker told me, "you know, I'm not not a chocolate fan".

Not wanting good chocolate to go to waste, Cameron promptly scooped it up on the spoon and willingly stuffed it into his mouth. :teeth: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

Ah, a true story of brother helping brother! :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

So, how about a GTKYFKK (That would be G(et) T(o) K(now) Y(our) F(ellow) K(razy) K(ruiser) question.......

What is your favorite kind of ice cream????

Mine would be anything with caramel. I'm not really an ice cream eater but if there is any caramel in there, I could devour the entire thing. We once bought some that was a caramel swirl with pieces of toffee in it. I have no idea what the name of it was but it was awesome. :cheer2:

OK, I almost forgot.. Welcome Deb and Ilene...

:jumping2:

Thanks!

I'm in the Chicago area, like some of the others on this thread, and it has been snowing here since around 2:30!
My DD's pom practice has been cancelled and so has DH's meeting tonight. The roads are getting pretty bad.

Oh, and my favorite kind of ice cream is Jamoca Almond Fudge from Baskin-Robbins.

If only I could telecommute! Even though I end work at 4:30pm there will be nights this winter where we won't get home till around 6:30pm at night. Those days are just long and arduous!

So I'm day late and a dollar short. It's hard sometimes for a working girl to keep up with the boards after her shift is done.

(Curt & Karen - I posted it that way just for you two!!!)

At a boy Cameron...sounds like something that would happen in this house...or my parents house.

Ok to answer the GTKYFKK question.
I have 3 ice creams that I truly enjoy.
1. Blue Bunny had a special Mickey Mouse Happy Birthday ice cream. It was vanilla with frosting swirled in and little candies in it.
2 & 3 We have a local convienence store called Stewarts that makes there own Ice Cream and they have some cool concoctions.
but the flavors I like best are:
COTTON CANDY
It's a carnival in your mouth! Cotton candy flavored ice cream sprinkled with multi-colored chocolate chips. Pure fun for kids of all ages
CRUMBS ALONG THE MOHAWK
Graham cracker flavored ice cream liberally sprinkled with graham cracker pieces and laced with a caramel swirl.

We survived our Santa visit. It was actually really neat. The youngest 1 year old (14 months) was the bravest of the 1 year olds. Didn't cry a tear....in fact, he was all smiles. The middle youngest one (almost 18 months) stiffened up her legs and wouldn't walk towards Santa. I had one of the 5 year olds hold her for the picture, she fought him most of the time. The oldest (23 months) hide behind the presents they have decorating the area. I picked him up so that Walker could hold him. This little guy just kept giving Santa the "evil eye".

The lady who takes the pictures remembered us from past visits -- how many other people travel in a large group of kids to see the Easter Bunny and Santa. This year, they added a toy train ride next to Santa. $1.50 per child. But, being we were repeat customers, she "arranged" it for the kids to have a free ride. A very nice gesture on her part. The kids loved it.

But their cheapest form of entertainment was throwing $.10 each into the fountain. Even the little kids loved the idea and kept coming back for more.

They have added new play areas for the shopper kids so we hit that afterwards. Another highlight.

And, of course, McDonald's. That was my threat for today....if your not good, I'm going to make you a PB&J sandwich at home and not buy you McDonald's today. Needless to say, they all cooperated. :teeth: :rotfl2:

Free train rides for the kids - that was really cool :cheer2: Glad today's trip went well, but then you are a professional!

Well - it's time to start packing as I check out of OKW in the morning - I will try and bring some of the warmer temps up north with me - sure hope the drive is not too bad - it's been fun trying to catch up on all the reading of this forum. :moped: Good news - weather was great til today - showers but it was rain showers not snow showers :umbrella: - met up with quite a few DISers and had a blast at the parks! :goodvibes
And I did get my booking for the next DVC cruise with my friend, Karen. Now that's a story in itself! :rotfl2:
The Merry Member Mixer was cancelled today because of the weather but I was lucky enough to go last week and saw a few of the last member cruisers there. There is a release of quite a bit of DVC merchandise coming out which they displayed at the Mixer and is showing up at the resorts.
I will be out of the loop for a while as I hit the road north to drop off sis and her dh in Delaware and then back to the reality of Michigan. :moped:

David, I don't think that there is much that you could say here to offend anyone. Those are really cute baby pictures but I have no guess.

No snow yet but it is comming. They are guessing around 8 in here. They say it could snow more than an inch an hour. That is alot of snow. I really hope there is a snow day for the girls tomorrow. We all need a day off.

I've been shopping all day and haven't kept up with the weather reports, what's our latest? This morning it was suppose to start around dinner time - now it's around 8 (most days that is our dinner time :teeth: ) If it comes down fast the road crews won't be able to keep up - but I have heard that they are ready and waiting for the snow. My dd has already started the "OH, I hope we get a snow day" It's very rare that we get a snow day.

Hey Samatha Brown on the Travel Channel is at WDW and it's on now if you haven't seen it before!!!

It will be on again DEC 11 2005
@ 12:00 PM

OK, for forecast for the next 8 hrs is over 15-30cm (that should tell you right off where I live)--that's about 7-13" for most of you folks. It is not very cold which is not good because when it gets really cold it won't snow so I know we are in for a doozy.

I have parent-teacher interview tomorrow morning (bet the teacher will not show d/t weather if the forecast is right) as I have had some issues with this lady and informed the Principal of them--one note home in Sept said "Cameron keeps on not behave well" Homework corrections were really bad ie. she used "their" in a sentence such as "their was a potato famine in Ireland" I brought this to the attention of the Principal who said that she would look into it--yeah right I don't think she has done a thing as the latest spelling test on Monday showed the teacher's correction as spelling toboggan as "tobaugan". This lady is teaching grade 3 but I do not think she could pass grade 3 english. Obvious english is not her first language, ok but then do not teach grade 3--perhaps kindergarten? The final straw was a math test where she marked 8:45 wrong. The kids had to write out the answers--such as 45 minutes past eight which she marked wrong and said that the correct answer should be fifteen minutes before nine. In my mind both are correct. I just received an email that the Principal will also be at the interview--I can't wait to hear what nonsense they will come up with!.

I also note that Mrs. Lips has fish extenders on ebay for sale. It is item #7730160273 is anyone is interested.

Glad your trip was fun. Can't wait until next week to see the new merchandise that's coming out.

Have a safe drive home - not sure how much the storm will affect your driving.

Hopefully we will meet up in January!
