Checking in from work and while I only have about a 2 mile drive that takes about 7 minutes - it is nasty out there. You cannot see at all and the plows are having a very hard time keeping up with all the snow. I don't think the south side is getting hit as hard but the whole area is being hit.

Stay safe everyone and thinking good thoughts for Amy, Chris and the girls. According to what I saw on the Southwest site they should be landing soon (it said 7:45). I'll go check there again.

Southwest is still showing them arriving at 7:45 but does not have a gate assignment up yet.

School is cancelled for my kids today.

It sure doesn't look like it's bad enough out there. Cameron hasn't been to school but 2 hours this week so for him, he'll just stay in bed. Walker is going to be elated to play in it. Yesterday when he came home from school, he bundled up in his snowsuit and climbed up in the tree watching for snowflakes. I'm sure he'll going to be thrilled to play outside all day.
Same here, and we barely have much snow!!! I called the school to make sure, and they said yes they are closed! but the daycare is open, so girls will go later until grandma is able to pick them up!

I am getting more concerned now that I heard that O'Hare has no runways open. Amy & Chris are flying into the smaller airport. I hope that because they are south of O'Hare that things are not as bad as at O'Hare. I hope they make it to Chicago, but I wouldn't be surprised is they were deverted someplace else either.

And, here I said it didn't look that bad out there.
I dont want to jinx us here on the soutside, but @ Tim's house which is 10 min away from Midway, we have about an inch, and its just lightly snowing, so she should be fine!

It's very rare that they close the schools here - especially so early in the school year. I guess they want to save the snow days in case we do get a ton of snow in Jan or Feb.

Unlucky for the school kids, our surrounding cities are really good about getting the streets cleaned and salted quickly.

We have had 1 snow day since Cameron has been in school. Our District never closes which is why it was such a surprise when they did today.

We don't have snowdays built into our school calendar so now the kids will need to go 1 day later into the summer months to make up for today. :(

We had really strong winds here starting at about 2:00 a.m. and continuing into this morning. The first thing I thought of when I woke up was "Amy & Chris are flying through these winds into Chicago," so before I was even out of bed, I said a little prayer for their safety. No snow here though.

Please let us know when they arrive. Those strong winds are probably the reason their plane is ahead of schedule. I'm sure they make for a good tailwind!

The Southwest site is now showing astericks for take off and landing information. I hope that means that they have landed. I tried to call Chris but it went right to voice mail. I asked them to give me a call just so we know they are on the ground -- even though it might be tough going once they leave the airport.

I'm not sure what their plans were today but I know Amy planned on a little trip down memory lane to the area I live in. I'm thinking it might be better for them to head to the hotel rather than this way. Maybe they will have time over the weekend to head out this way to reminise. Amy's brother lives not far from me and I believe that Amy's nephew's party is Sunday.

Cindy - I was just going to say the same thing. Hoping it means they are on the ground and safe.

You & me the worriers, Mary. :goodvibes

I saw they had a gate for a while and then everything on the site went poof. I'm anxiously awaiting to hear they are safe.

Oh the weather outside is frightful,
But the fire is so delightful,
And since we've no place to go,
Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!

It doesn't show signs of Pauseping,
And I've bought some corn for popping,
The lights are turned way down low,
Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!

When we finally kiss goodnight,
How I'll hate going out in the storm!
But if you'll really hold me tight,
All the way home I'll be warm.

The fire is slowly dying,
And, my dear, we're still good-bying,
But as long as you love me so,
Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!

Chris & Amy are in Indianapolis. They aren't sure what's going to happen so stay tuned for an update.

Thnak Cindy, that's kind of what I was afraid to hear. The good thing is the weather here is finally breaking, so they may just fly them in on a later one.

Wouldn't you know it! Two weeks ago today I was in Indy not 15 minutes from the airport. We were visiting our DD and her DH. Unfortunately, they are both at work now, so no way that they could help out our stranded travelers. Hopefully they won't be there too long, but it's at least good to know that they are safe!

Just packing. It's not to bad here yet. They are saying it's pretty clear untill Jackson,MI. We won't be leaving untill 3-4 pm.When ever Aaron's bus drops him off. Safe travels to all of our friends!pixiedust: pixiedust: pixiedust: See you tomorrow! Chris:wave: :moped:

Glad they at least are in route and not still sitting in Tampa. How far is Indianapolis from Chicago?

We're going to take off in a bit, stop at the bank and then pick up Deanna.

See some of you soon!

Safe travels Chris.

Sorry to hear that Amy and Chris got detoured but it is to be expected in this weather. Here's hoping they get on their way to Chicago soon. I'm sure it is days like this that make them really glad they live in FL!

Indy is 5 hrs from Chicago.
Safe travels to you and your family !:wizard: See ya soon!:cool1:

Gail - safe travels to you guys too as well as Karen/Curt.

Looking forward to seeing everyone tomorrow!

Here's some good news.

I was just talking to a friend who has a daycare parent who lives in Schaumburg and works in Rosemont (where a lot of us are staying tonight) and the word is that the farther she drove towards Rosemont the better the weather conditions were. It makes me feel better for our Michigan friends making their journey today.

The bad news is I have no idea where my snowboots went. I had them when I went camping with Cameron in October and now they are no where to be found. So, I will be the idiot with gym shoes on tonight and tomorrow. :(
