On the 10 day cruise we brought 9 bottles of wine on board, most we carried on. If you bring the bottle to dinner, there is a corking fee, $15 I think.
They do charge a corkage fee of $15 if you bring the bottle to dinner with you. However, if you want to avoid the fee, you can. Just ask your stateroom host to bring you two fresh wine glasses each morning when they make up your stateroom. Or, if you only have one bottle, just run up to Signals and ask for a couple of wine glasses. Then, open the wine in your stateroom (we like to enjoy a glass while getting ready for dinner) and poor yourself a glass to take to dinner with you. They don't question you about where the glass came from. The only downside to this is that you don't get to refill the glass, but it's less expensive!

Have fun! My father thinks we will somehow be schlepping 24 bottles on between the four of us. Hope my DH is feeling strong that day!

Need to think of happier things than the downpour we are having right now :umbrella:

So can we get a head count going for the Sail Away Party...

I will be there and most likely DH (unless I can't tear him away from the BB court  )

Who else is coming???

Cash and I will be there...

Lynn and I will be there for the sailaway.

Lynda,

I am pretty sure that the Tropicana is on the east side of DL/DCA, and the GC is on the west. It would be a long walk/drive there if you have all your luggage with you....

Yes, that's a dilemma I've been wrestling with. I have a set of industrial-strength "wheels"...the mini dolly thingie a lot of people use to haul their luggage around with... that I hook onto the back of my scooter. Loaded with luggage I look like a 1-woman wagon train with mascot... I have pondered the wisdom of just hauling my luggage behind my scooter over to the Tropicana, if it'll all fit on the dolly.... OR I might just try and scare up a cab with a lift (the problem) to zip me over to the Tropicana but it's such a short trip for a cab that I may not be able to find one willing...I wanted to use the DCL shuttle because of the certainty of a wheelchair lift and to avoid luggage collection and shuffling problems and so many of the usual number of "Murphy's Law" problems that usually haunt my travels...Oh, the stories I have.... If I knew how familiar Supershuttle was with port-to-hotel transport, and especially with the Disney system of baggage storage and collection I'd go Supershuttle directly to the Tropicana.....But, I don't. When push comes to shove I trust myself to be able to muddle through under my own steam...somehow... so right now the plan is DCL shuttle and then who knows? I'll be staying at the Tropicana for 10 days so I have at least that long to shuffle luggage if I can talk the GC into babysitting a few bags for a while....
Ahhh, as you can see, I've abandoned the commando Type A style of planning...Maybe that's how my adventures creep in...

Things are bound to change by May...Somehow...
:wizard:

Lynda, I could be wrong, but I think the Tropicana is/was one of the "Good Neighbor" hotels. I wonder if the shuttles will be dropping guests off there???

Jeff and I will be at sailaway :teeth:

We have yet to be charged the corking fee on board, they tell you they have one, and the servers never manage (in my experience) to charge you for it

Looking foward to meeting both of you!!!

Can Cash have MilkBones or any kind of treat or is he on a special diet?

To avoid any "accidents" brought on by a change in water or from travel stress, I have Cash stick to a specific diet and bottled water when traveling...Milk Bones are a treat that I give him while traveling because they are neutral. If I set aside time for structured training sessions I give him a special treat (like a little slice of steak) for accomplishing a step in a task correctly. Whether or not he will eat a treat like a Milk Bone outside of a training session is iffy. He is funny about the things he eats...probably a carryover from being trained not to graze floors or counters.. and will rarely accept a treat from a stranger or that has been handled by a stranger. It's just as well, probably...Before we left for the Christmas cruise he had to get a zillion shots, tests and inspections, poor dog. The last thing the vet said before we left was that he was in good shape but obese...A 115 pound lab mix is a BIG dog and so I have cut out treats for him except as a training reward.
On the Panama cruise I'll undoubtedly schedule training sessions for him since otherwise he will be bored to death. He will be happy to earn treats then. :cat:

Yes, that was my first thought...it is a Good Neighbor resort but, as of a few weeks ago, Disney had no plans to send the shuttle to any but on-site hotels....
Too bad.

Hey Linda have you tried Pupcorn for Cash? Josie use to have a weight issue, and we stopped with the treats, until we found Pupcorn. Pupcorn is a baked treat, low in fat and easy on the system. You can get it at any (just about any) pet store here in Florida.

I suppose I could bring along some Virginia wine, maybe drive out to the Naked Mountain Winery. Then I could bring my tee shirt that says "Drink Naked"

What's with the headcount? I don't even know what I'm going to do tomorrow, much less on certain days in May.

I've marked down those who have stated they will attend the sail away...I'll keep a running tally so we know how many "gifts" to get.

Hope everyone enjoys thier weekends and I'll check back in on Monday :wave2:

Never heard of it..There's both a Petsmart and a Petco not far from here...I think I'll take a look, Thanks...

Do any of you web experts have the font for the Disney Magic. The lettering on the side of the ship looks like the "Disney" is the standard Walt Disney script available on the web in several places. I have that. What I'm looking for is the font for the "Magic". Very unique. I haven't been able to find it or one that comes close.

Sail away. Shari and I will be there.

Or you can ask our "expert" over on the 10 day thread since they schlepped on 22 bottles of wine!!

Now, you've brought up a good point. It's almost certain that he'll have to get another international health certificate, which involves a special group of Rabies titer tests...very expensive. That will probably be required by Panama and possibly Mexico. If we are going to land in other Central American countries or Carribbean countries we didn't visit last year then he'll undoubtedly have to get the whole round of shots again...including one for Lyme disease. I'm waiting for DCL to inform my TA as to what's involved besides a lot of money on my part and discomfort on Cash's. When I took that service dog training cruise in November on HAL there were 10 service dog/handler teams and even though some of the handlers stated they would not be able to disembark at ports requiring a tender (tenderized ports?) the countries involved insisted on the same inspections for their dogs as for those getting off the boat. In Antigua I was stopped from departing the ship until an official from the local Agricultural quarentine office had arrived to inspect Cash...Neat job...The guy was scared to death of Cash and wouldn't approach him until I had put Cash in a canine form of the hammerlock. Then they tried to slap me with a hitherto unheard of $15 import fee....DCL paid it... Finally, the minute we hit the pier one of the security officials gets all hot and tries to refuse to let us pass..."Excuse me but pets are not allowed to enter the country"...AARRRGHHHH. I gave him a short education on the use of Service Dogs and went on...
Then there was the lady on the Magic last month who tried to complain about the presence of Cash on the ship to Guest Services.....I'm still puzzled about that one...

After seeing some of the street mongrels in St. Maarten I was just as glad that Cash had been inoculated against every bug known to dogs. Because of the stray dogs it's not likely I'll be strolling around the downtown shopping areas...Thanks to those who picked up local picture postcards for me last month I have a record of where I had sailed to...

oops, got a little carried away here..... :confused3

I was poking around the SuperShuttle website to get info for my self and found this page: http://supershuttle.com/htm/ada.htm it seems like they have accessible transportation. They are really prompt with anwering e-mail in the "Contact Us" page. (I had a reply within an hour)

Good luck!!!

Myself and my mom and dad will be at the sailaway! Already have a great idea for a gift.

Debbie

So as to avoid going through all of the posts that I have briefly scanned, Does everyone know that the excursions are now up on the DCL cruise line web site?
