2 Weeks of Food and Fun! June 2014 Dining Reviews with Pics - 7/25 Updated x2

Great start! I'm glad I found your DR when I did. I'm starting to plan for our 2015 trip and it looks like some of the places on your list are on my "to try" list.

Those fish tacos look delicious! In your picture you can see some of the sauce on them was it spicy?

Yum school bread!!! One of my favorites!

Thanks! The sauce was pretty spicy, but the cabbage slaw helped cut some of the spice.

DD and I will be at AKL next week. I don't think I would have considered the chicken flatbread until seeing that picture!

Can't wait to see more!

Following along. Great reviews so far. Contemplating the fish tacos at Sunshine Seasons (I love the beet salad though, I will have a tough decision!)

Our next meal was dinner at Boma. I started off with a Pimm's Punch (Pimm's No. 1 Liqueur, Hendrick's, Odwalla Lemonade, and Wild Strawberry)

It was delicious. I always love anything with Pimm's in it!

This was my first plate:

Clockwise from the top: matar paneer, some type of olive hummus, mac and cheese, pap, a samosa with mango chutney, pita and lovash breads, and I think I see some rice hiding under there too. The paneer was dry, like it had been sitting under the heat lamps too long. Everything else was great!

This is DH's plate:

IMG_3177_zpsca12390a.jpg

Clockwise from the top: pita, rice, fufu, a samosa, durban chicken, ribs, some type of meat (we both forget what it was), and a roll. DH loved everything, especially the fufu, ribs, and chicken.

We also each had a bowl of soup, but apparently I have no picture. I had the carrot ginger (SO good), and DH had the coconut chicken curry soup (also really good).

I was getting pretty full at this point, so I went back up to the buffet to grab a few desserts. That's when I realized I hadn't had any of the salads! So I got a small plate of some of the salads before dessert.

IMG_3179_zpsa9493325.jpg

Clockwise from the top: pearl couscous shrimp salad, watermelon and gorgonzola salad, and mixed greens with some more gorgonzola (I forgot what the dressing was). The couscous shrimp salad was nothing special. The other 2 were delish. The watermelon salad was so refreshing!

I believe that when I got the salads, DH got more ribs and chicken.

Next it was time for dessert!

Clockwise from top: kenyan coffee tart, cassava cake, zebra dome, strawberry mint panna cotta, and we both forget what that last thing is so I guess it wasn't too memorable!

The coffee tart was good. I'm not a big chocolate person so I just ate the filling out of the shell. The panna cotta was really refreshing and delicious. I was so full that I only managed to eat half of one zebra dome. Boma fail. :sad2:
DH liked the cassava cake. I thought it had an odd taste and an odd texture. Definitely not something I would eat again.

We both love Boma. The food is always good, there are always so many options, and we will definitely continue to go back!

Thanks for sharing! I'm really looking forward to your next post...we leave in about three weeks, on DDP, and you are reviewing many of our ADR spots! My mouth is watering, and I am taking notes! :goodvibes

Mmmm Boma is so amazing!! Thinking about doing it instead of Ohana in Dec.

We had great experiences at both Boma and Ohana on this trip. I don't think I'd be able to choose between them!

The next day, we skipped breakfast and had an early lunch at Pizza Planet. It seems like most people either love or hate Disney pizza, and I'm someone who loves it. I love the thick crust, and I very rarely eat pizza at home so eating any pizza feels like a treat. DH and I each had a cheese pizza with caesar salad. We also split a strawberry cupcake.

IMG_3192_zps9bc50e73.jpg

The pizza was standard Disney pizza (delicious). The caesar salad was surprisingly good. It had the perfect amount of dressing and even though it was pre-dressed, the lettuce was crisp rather than soggy (but that could also be because we got there when they had just opened for the day).
I always have a problem with my eyes being bigger than my stomach, so when it came time to each the cupcake, I was already really full. We both tried it, but ended up leaving most of it. It was ok, but for some reason I expected the frosting to be light or whipped (I guess because it's a summer cupcake), but it was very sweet and heavy. I probably wouldn't get it again.

Later that afternoon, we stopped at Tune-In Lounge for a drink, and we also decided to split Mom's Old-Fashioned Pot Roast (Slow-cooked ‘til fork tender served with Roasted Garlic Mashed Potatoes, Brown Gravy, Carrots, Celery, and Onions).

IMG_3194_zps6061ce91.jpg

I've never had any desire to eat at 50's Prime Time Cafe because having the servers interact with me never appealed to me, but we both agreed that this was so good that we'll definitely consider eating there on our next trip! The meat was really tender and the mashed potatoes were so creamy.

When we passed Writer's Stop, I HAD to try the carrot cake cookie. I have seen people rave about it here on the Dis, and I was really looking forward to trying it.

IMG_3197_zpsdbeaa959.jpg

It definitely lived up to the hype. The cookies were soft and the cream cheese filling was so good! I was only able to eat a little less than half because it was so big. DH doesn't like raisins so he wouldn't eat the rest. I highly recommend it, especially if you have someone to split it with!

Dinner that night was at Sci Fi. We arrived a little earlier than our ADR time, but we were seated soon after we checked in. There were many open seats inside, but I think it's because most people were lining up for the first Fantasmic show of the night.

I ordered a Habanero Lime Martian Margarita (Patrón Silver Tequila, Habañero Lime, and House-made Sweet-and-Sour), and DH had a beer of some sort.

IMG_3199_zps39ce58f2.jpg

My first margarita was good, although I didn't taste any habanero. I ordered a second one later on in the meal (trying to calm my nerves before riding Rock n Roller Coaster), and it tasted like a glass full of sweet and sour mix. It was gross. I would have sent it back if our waiter had stopped by to check on us, but he didn't. Fortunately, he was the only bad waiter we had during our whole two week trip.

We shared the Buffalo Popcorn Chicken for an appetizer. I originally wanted to just order this as my entree, but DH really wanted to try it too.

IMG_3200_zps4490a638.jpg

The picture is just some of the pieces of chicken on my plate, obviously the portion size is much bigger than this. It was really good! The chicken was crispy and it had the perfect amount of spice. We were both really happy with it.

For our entrees, I ordered The Famous All American Picnic Burger (Flame-broiled Angus Burger Patty topped with Grilled Hot Dog, Sauerkraut, and Sautéed Onions, crowned with a Pickle Spear served with a choice of Cucumber Salad or French Fries) and DH ordered the Flame-Broiled New York Strip Steak (topped with Blue Cheese Butter and served with Garlic Mashed Potatoes, Seasonal Vegetables, and crispy Onion Rings).

IMG_3202_zpsc5eee80b.jpg

As soon as I told DH that I was going to order the picnic burger, he said "there is no way you're going to eat all that". I got it anyway. Aaaaaand he was right. It was good, but I only ate half of it (and that was after removing the hot dog after a bite or two). It was so much meat! The fries were too thick for my liking, so I didn't eat any of them. If I could go back in time, I would have stuck with ordering the buffalo popcorn chicken as my meal.

DH wasn't a big fan of his steak. He asked for it rare and it was cooked a little too much for him, and it was also under-seasoned. He also said the mashed potatoes had no garlic flavor and weren't nearly as good as the mashed potatoes we had earlier in the day with the pot roast at Tune-In.

We skipped dessert because we were too full.

We both really enjoy the atmosphere here, but next time I think it might be time to try somewhere new.

hi, can you please tell me which day of the week you dined at boma? i'd love to go on the day of the week they have the ribs. I don't think they 're on the menu every day. thanks

We were there on a Saturday night :)

The next morning, we had a pre-park opening breakfast at Crystal Palace.

This is my carbalicious first plate:

IMG_3207_zps86d171a8.jpg

Breakfast lasagna is in the bowl, and the plate has mickey waffles and puffed french toast with strawberry sauce.

This is my second plate:

IMG_3208_zpsab365f4e.jpg

Clockwise from the top is cheesy potatoes, a biscuit and gravy, corned beef hash, and smoked salmon.

It appears that I did not take photos of DH's plates, probably because we mostly had the same things.

In my opinion, you can't go wrong with mickey waffles, breakfast lasagna, and puffed french toast (although I couldn't finish all of my first plate because it was sugar overload)! I had actually never had a biscuit and gravy before, and it just wasn't for me. It was so heavy. So I ended up giving it to DH :thumbsup2 The corned beef hash wasn't amazing or anything, but it was pretty good, and helped balance out all the sweets I had just eaten! We both really enjoyed the smoked salmon. It was "pastrami" smoked salmon so it had some pastrami-type spices on it.

As always, we had a great breakfast at Crystal Palace. It's a favorite of ours because we get to eat all kinds of yummy things we don't get to eat at home. We also had an awesome server and great character interaction! It continues to be a must-do for us :)

We skipped lunch today because we were stuffed from Crystal Palace, and we had an early-ish ADR for dinner at Be Our Guest. I was hesitant to keep this ADR, because I've heard such mixed reviews for dinner here. I'm SO glad we kept it, because this ended up being one of the best meals of the trip!

Once we were seated, we were given some bread and butter:

IMG_3262_zps0acf9fc7.jpg

The photo of the bread doesn't look very exciting, but it was so good! It was crusty on the outside, and warm and soft on the inside.

We both had the Mussels Provencal (with White Wine, Tomato, Garlic, Onion, Basil, and Butter) as our appetizer:

IMG_3263_zps92216945.jpg

SO good! The sauce was delicious and the mussels were perfect. We were both surprised at how large the portion was for an appetizer.

For our entrees, I had the Sauteed Shrimp and Scallops (Seasonal Vegetables and Mushrooms served in Puff Pastry with a Creamy Lobster Sauce), and DH had the Herb-Crusted Lamb Rack (with a Stone-ground Mustard Demi-glace served with Buttered Celery Root and Seasonal Vegetables).

IMG_3264_zps8bdc9aac.jpg

IMG_3266_zpsbd8f247b.jpg

I was very happy with the shrimp and scallop dish. I had heard a few reviews where people got undercooked shrimp, but my shrimp and scallops were perfect. The sauce was delicious, and puff pastry is always good!
DH loved the lamb. The buttered celery root was really good (he gave me a taste), and his lamb was cooked perfectly. His only criticism is that the lamb rack was pretty small. This worked out fine though, because I could only finish half of my shrimp and scallops so I gave the rest to him.

We were both pretty stuffed at this point, but we really wanted to try their desserts! I ordered the Strawberry Cream Cheese Cupcake, and DH ordered The Grey Stuff.

IMG_3268_zps0ef9917d.jpg

IMG_3269_zpsc2811b36.jpg

The cupcake was moist and delicious. I didn't try DH's dessert, but he loved it. He said the bottom part was the texture of a cookie, and it went really well with the "grey stuff" on top.

We had an AWESOME meal here. We loved everything we ate, and our server was fabulous. We will definitely return!
