2 kittens or 1?

I would take them both, especially if they were littermates. We've always had multiple cats...when one passed away, we would get another one. My dd#2 likes bringing home cats...that's how the younger 2 arrived. The don't always get along but for the most part they're fine. We have 2 litter boxes but the kitten doesn't always use it as she has her own upstairs. princess:.

Get 2

I was adopting a kitten last october he was adorable and had 3 legs and no tail and then I remembered a mistake I made 10 years ago when I adopted a 4 month old kitten and no one to play with so I adopted 2 kittens last year

A really adorable video how a mama cat stops a kitten from having a nightmare

While I only have one cat myself, I would say go ahead and take both of them. Especially since they are litter mates, they already know each other. They should be good buddies and keep each other company.

One litter box is probably going to be OK... 2 might be preferable, but not necessary. Cats are pretty versatile. They can be be perfectly happy being a loner, but they can also function well with other cats. Since these two are litter mates, they should be great.

The problem I ran into trying to have more than one cat was I have a little Siamese cat and she has been a loner since she was just a baby. We brought another cat into the house (an older cat, came from some in-laws long story). My little Siamese cat terrorized him. She would whip is behind several times a day, every day. He was going "outside the box" as well. The whole thing was a disaster. I was soooo worried that he was going to get tired of the way she would beat him up on a daily basis and really hurt her. She was/is just a tiny little thing and he was quite large.

We found a new home for him quickly.

Thank you all for the advice. The thing about the litter box is I have limited space. I live in a single level condo and the only place I could put it is either in the bathroom or kitchen.

One box is fine, I used to live in an apartment and had 3 cats and one litter box and it was fine only once had an accident and it was number 2 and I think was on purpose my pal was pissed at me.

We are a family of 5 kitties. If we had to do it over we would have 6. We had an older kitty when we brought our first baby of the 5 home. Our older furbaby didn't want to play with him. I wish at that point we would have found him a playmate. Our older kitty passed and we have since adopted 2 brother sister pairs. They have all now adapted but we felt it was a much easier transition with 2 versus 1 when introducing to the rest of the family.

The one other thing I would suggest if you have the room is the number of cats plus one theory with litter boxes. It is hard in small spaces but we have always had the number of cats plus one and no problems. Hope this helps!

I would take them both. Heck, I just adopted three...Olaf, Sven and Kristoff The DGKs named them. They really are much happier with a playmate. :teeth:

Take both! We've had many cats and a cat by himself tends to get into more trouble than a pair. They keep each busy and really aren't any more trouble.

One litterbox is fine. They'll share.

One box would be fine. I wouldn't put it in either of those rooms though. If the bathroom is in use they can't get to it and the kitchen for sanitary reasons not good. Perhaps a corner of a living room or bedroom.

I agree, 2 cats. We have a dog, I wish we would have gotten 2 when we got our dog, but I don't want to add in a second dog now :D.

Litter box--two is nice, but not needed. You could get one big one as well. If you have a closet or space under a stairway or something like that, put in a cat door so they can get in and out and you can keep the door closed that way. I've seen people put in cat doors in a wall that leads to the stairway to a basement and have their litter boxes down in the basement as well...if that is an option.

No room to be honest plus every where else in the house has carpet except for the bathroom and kitchen and I don't want a litter box on the carpet.

Then if those two places are your only choices I would choose the bathroom.

For us though. when we had 2 cats ( sadly they have passed on ) they shared one. I also put something under the box for the litter that will eventually get tossed out. I bought a shower curtain liner at Dollar Tree and cut it just bigger than the box. It was on a rug in the bedroom and I never once had a problem in the 14 + years we had them.

You'll be fine whatever you decide just keep that box clean. Cats are pretty clean animals and if you don't stay on it daily they will not be happy.

If every other room in the house has carpeting you can buy a rubber mat XL size and put it under the litter box. I do keep our litter box in the bathroom though. The kids know when you're taking a shower leave the door open a smidge so she can get in there.

I have 2 puppies. I say get both :thumbsup2

I keep mine in the bathroom. But apparently a former owner of our house had cats and cut a small opening in the bottom of the bathroom door. So the cats can come and go even if the bathroom is being used.

I have 6 cats : Garfield, Milo, Dutchess age 4; Sweetums age 6, Buddy and Sissy age 9. We just trapped 3 kittens age approx 8 weeks now. (Did a TNR for the mom.) So far we have only allowed Dutchess in the same room as the babies. She is acting as "mom". We took off the door to the room and hung a full screen door temporarily. This was the rest of the crew can get used to the kittens and the kittens to them. We have to be careful though cause one of the dogs has learned if he pushes hard enough the door will open. :rotfl: The kittens are crated at night and given free roam of the room during the day. Eventually we will introduce the rest of the crew with no screen between them.Once I don't have to worry about losing a kitten in the house somewhere! I found that our cats do much better with kitty companions. (I had no intention of keeping kittens but we will see what happens. They can not just go wherever either!)

also luckily since I live alone I make the rules :-) lol bathroom door is always cracked open all the time, even when I shower

2 cats is fine if they are litter mates
I use arm&a hammer clump and seal litter $ but worth it
I cut a front out of large plastic box and put the litter box in it so I scoop every day but clean1x a week and if litter or pee goes out of litter box I don't have to clean floor- just plastic box
I also use extra large litter box liner for litter box- easier clean up
Food makes a difference- if u don't feed wet the litter box isn't as nasty and the cats don't try your patience as much with the game of which food am I NOT going to eat this week that I loved last week

Try arm& hammer seal and scoop litter
I use heavy XL litter liner bag for easier cleanup and put litter box in slightly larger plastic box that I cut front opening for entry- that way stray litter and pee ends up in easy to Clean box not on nicer floor
Scoop daily toss litter and clean once a week
