2 days at HH DVC.... what is it like?

I went to their web page and quite frankly it is lacking. We're staying 2 days in September and are not DVC members.

What is their to do there, especially if you aren't a DVC member?

All guests at the resort will have access to the same activities and amenities- whether you are a DVC Member or not. Members do get a discount on some activities, but none are restricted to members only. Many of the activities are also free to all guests.

Hilton Head Island has over 200 restaurants, lots of shopping (both outlets and many boutique shops- plus a mall within 1/2 mile of the resort), miniature golf is nearby, lots of golf courses, tennis, all types of boating activities and fishing.

The recreation staff at the resort has a great variety of activities for all ages, including adults- with canoeing, kayaking, Dolphin cruises, shark fishing, shelling, crabbing, nature walks, horseback riding, GyoTaku (fish painting), crafts, wine tasting, cooking class, stories, campfire activities, magic shows, kids-night-out, teens-night-out, barbeque, shrimp boil - all available right from the resort. The resort rec staff is really superb.

The Beach House has a snack bar (with public access), a pool (guests ony), bar (guests only) and shower facilities. All of the HH beaches have public access, there are no private beaches. They are very wide, white sand beaches, with minimal drop off or rip tides. There are many places where you can access the beach to get an idea what it looks like. HH is divided into "plantations", and many do have private gated access. Sea Pines allows guests to visit ($5 per car) and you can visit HarbourTown with the lighthouse and golf course as well as lots of shopping and dining options.

Disney's HH is almost universally loved. I can't recall anyone here ever posting they didn't like it! It is a lush oasis in the middle of busy, tourist-y HH Island. You drive over the little bridge and you are just suddenly "away from it all" in the middle of the beautiful "low country."

There are crafts every day, and bikes to rent. You can fish off a pier into the marsh or just walk around. There are rocking chairs and hammocks, and grills for BBQ. There is a nice pool with a slide. You can take the shuttle bus or walk or bike or drive to the beautiful Beach House which is on the ocean. There is a den there, a snack bar, and a nice pool with changing facilities. The island itself has tons of restaurants, lots of shopping, a nearby nature preserve with public access and a zillion charter boats that can take you out fishing or just looking for dolphins or sharks. Some trips can be booked right at the resort. There is a snack bar near the pool and a small gift shop, and the Main Lodge has little den with comfy chairs and a pool table.

The resort is very green and beautiful and no one will know or care if you are a DVC member. Just beware -- lots of "visitors" fall in love with DVC resorts and wind up buying DVC!

We pretty much fly from NJ to Orlando any more. But the one thing we miss about driving is stopping at HH, especially on the way home. It is so peaceful and relaxing. My kids range from 19 down to 3, everyone loves HH!
