150 Club....Care to join??? Continued.

Alicia -- :welcome: So glad you could join us. Your goal is definitely doable! You'll figure out what works for you as you go along. I do WW (well, when I do it I lose!), other people do Sparkpeople, or other methods. They all work if you do them ;)

:rotfl: yes but it is the doing it that is the hard part ;)

I've done WW before, and I loved it but I can't afford to do those while saving up for Disney too, so I might try to do it on my own...or try sparkpeople..I've done that before..but I have trouble sticking to it..

I think I am going to give WW a try again..maybe I'll do the online... WW has worked for me before so it seems my best bet!!

Alicia, welcome!! I think you can do WW without the meetings... I have never followed it though.

I use sparkpeople. I try to stick to around 1200 calories but the last day or two I have been closer to 1500. AF is here and that makes it really hard for me to be good. Plus life is sorta getting me down lately.

You go Maria!! :yay:

Katie I really like the idea of small goals. I need to start incorporating that into my life.

Jennie (and anyone else here who runs), I admire anyone that can run any distance!! I am just no good at it... makes my feet and ankles hurt and I get that stitch in my side. I can 2.6 miles on the elliptical on level 8 in 30 min, but running, no way!

Kat: Same here, AF is coming..I guess her flight was delayed :rotfl: so I'm in full crave mode.

I think the reason that WW works for me is because it's simplified down to the points..sometimes having to watch how many calories and how much this and that gets to me..if it was just calories..now THAT I could do..but I always wonder if JUST cutting calories works...

I think what I REALLY need is some pixiedust: or :wizard:

But :confused3 I just don't see any...... :upsidedow

Alicia, you can look at my ticker and I can tell you that calorie cutting works, or at least it did for me. I cut mine to 1200-1400 w/ 3-5 days of exercise, and 64 oz of water a day, and lost 40 lbs.

I lost most of it between Feb and Sept of last year (with one WDW trip during that time to detail me). I stuck to the plan above, and added 1-2 cheat nights a month.

Sept-Jan was difficult, didn't really stick to plan, WDW trips and holidays, but I did mostly maintain. I am back on and determined to lose the remaining 25-30.

I don't really watch what I eat specifically, as long as it fits into my calorie range. That includes occasional fast food, wine, whatever. I do try to keep my fiber grams high but that is mostly for, uhh, regulatory purposes. ;)

The snow is gone!! I'm so excited! Now I can take Daisy for walks!!

So, DH and I budget for the month and we each get to spend a certain amount on us. I'd like to get a scale. Do any of you have a recommendation of a good, accurate at-home scale? It can be anything for me. DH won't use it - he uses one at work (don't laugh - okay, laugh, I do - he weighs almost 400 lbs at 6'3" and he uses the truck scale at work to track his weight :rotfl: I laugh because I can just imagine him standing on this huge scale. I have no idea what it looks like in reality though!)

I've been doing GREAT at my working out, but not so great at eating. I can blame it on the Easter candy, but the truth is my eating habits have been bad for a while. I'm back to tracking all the time now though and I'm working on getting those calorie amounts down. Slowly but surely huh?

Alicia - WELCOME! I'm new too, but I thought I'd say hi! If you cut calories a little bit and work out regularly you can do 1 lb a week easy! Good luck!

Maria - great job on Day 1! Keep it up. Even if you get discouraged, pick yourself up, stop by here, and then get back on it! We'll help pick you up if you need it.

Kat - small goals really help me. I get so overwhelmed when I see how far I have to go. I even use them when I exercise outside (jog or ride my bike). I tell myself I'm going to get to the first turn off, or the next intersection. Then when I get there, I pick another goal and just do it. It helps me a lot.

Jennie - I've never heard of I Can Make You Thin. What channel is that on? What kind of acupressure was he doing? I know what you mean about the walking/running. I use the elliptical regularly and I can do a 2 mile walk without a problem. Whenever I start jogging though, I can't make it very far without wheezing and my hips and knees always hurt the next day. The elliptical seems to be working for me, but it doesn't really build lung capacity. I need to go outside more. I hope you're fully recovered from your cold! Working out while recovering always takes more energy than it seems it will. Next time you go for a walk/jog, you'll be able to do a little more and a little more. :)

Tara and Luna - how's it going? Have a successful day!

Katie

Not very chatty group lately huh? I am having a bad week. I pulled my knee over the weekend and it still hurts, so that has put me out of commission exercise wise, and now the resident docs here at wish think i might have had a stroke! So that is just great news

HI all!

Kat- I am not a runner! I have run a few times but I am neither good at it nor do I like it. Sometimes I feel like I should run to get a better workout. And other times I just think I would really love to be a runner. But I don't think I ever will. I hope you are feeling a little more up. I've been battling the blues myself. Warmer weather always helps me so I know it's not too much longer. Good luck!

There is a commercial on tv for Kashi I think and it shows an older guy running. And he says he never ran a step until his 30's. He inspires me. As do all of you for keeping up on your exercising.

Maria, I love DWTS too. Who are you routing for? I'm hoping for a girl to win. I can't believe how good Kristi Y. is!

Alicia here is some Pixiedust for you! :pixiedust I feel like WW is really just calorie counting. It just puts it into easier terms. And you don't have to count your veggies. Which are so low in cals anyway. I had good success on WW and now I'm doing the calorie counting. Not too much progress. But I haven't been as good about working out either.

Katie Yay about your snow! We are getting it here tonight and tomorrow! Yuck! I hope it doesn't last! I don't know what brand my scale is. But I got a digital one at Walmart. And it's pretty good. I like that it does the weight down to .2 increments. And when I was going to WW it was the same as what I weighed there. That show I was talking about "I Can Make you Thin" is on Discovery channel on Sunday nights at 9 I think. Although I did see a repeat on Mon. night I think. If nothing else it is helping to pay attention to my stomach more. Instead of well I'm allowed 400 calories and I put them on my plate and I'm gonna eat them all no matter what. We'll see!

Hope everyone is well. I have been very good about my eating. Tracking everything. But not my exercising. I should be on the elliptical right now. Thanks all for the reminder!!

Jennie

Raen I'm sorry to hear about your injury. Who thinks you had a stroke? People here on the boards? I hope not!!! :scared1: I hope your week improves!

Jennie

Kat - I worry about the loose skin thing too. That and stretch marks (which I already have! I guess I worry more about how to get rid of them!). I have to keep telling myself I'm not REALLY on any sort of timeline and it's better to lose it more gradual.. that way I'll more than likely keep it off.

worfie - good luck with your no candy and fried foods! I know you can do it! (actually, you'll start to lose your taste for those things the longer you go without them!)

stillthefairest
- I'm with you! I'm doing to WDW in December and want to be at 150 by then. I've got about 52 pounds to lose. Let's do it together!

fofinia - thanks for talking about that weird tv show (I can make you thin) I've been wondering what it was about but could never bring myself to actually watch it. If it really does start working for you, let us know!

Raenstoirm - ugh, sorry about your knee! how did you pull it?

as for me... I'm still holding strong at 202. I have started to really increase my workouts though. Now I'm doing about an hour on the nordictrack at home after I get off work in the afternoons then in the evening I go with DH to the gym and walk/run for about 30-40 minutes. I really don't push myself too hard in the evenings because I figure I worked out hard earlier, but maybe pushing a bit more wouldn't hurt huh?

My toughest thing is food ... man, I just can't seem to stop myself from snacking and wanting bad things. maybe I'll try that crazy accupressure thing that fofinia was talking about! lol :goodvibes

anyway.. I think if I keep up my workouts and try to watch what I eat a little better, by monday I can be below 200.. which I haven't been since.. geez, I really don't know! Under 200 would be a milestone for me!!! Wish me luck everyone over the weekend!!! :grouphug:

I had a bit of a scare on Monday. I actually started a thread (huge scare) to get advice. I thought the group would tell me I was dehydrated or something and to drink more, but it sounds to them like a had a pre-stroke!

As for the knee, I think I might have tore a ligament (yet again, although last time it was a tendon and that was in high school). On easter we brought my future-grandmother-in-law a new TV. I was lifting it off the floor and putting it on the stand. I squatted down to lift from my legs (so as to not hurt my back) but I think i might have lifted from my knee as opposed to my legs in general, since Sunday night my knee was really bothering me and all I had done (minus lift the TV) was sit on Granny's couch all day. I tried running on it Monday morning and the pain was intense. Despite not doing anything exercise wise since Monday morning, it still really hurts. It has never swelled, but neither did my tendon when I put a nice micro tear in it. I plan on getting back to my running on Monday, so I hope it is just a sprain or something and not a tear. I really don't want to be on crutches! :sad2:

I replace running with elliptical, arc trainer, skating, rollerblading. I start hockey up again Apr 14th and can't wait!

I wish I could run, though... running is almost like a club I can't join.

Oh I definitely have stretch marks!! And I have never had children. As I lose the weight, though, they are fading into white marks instead of red ones.

Good luck with ONE-derland!! I know you can do it!!

 Hope you feel better soon.

I am feeling a bit better today and not as down. I have some hard life decisions to make and the thoughts were overwhelming me, but I am gradually coming to terms with it and this is helping.

And snow?? It is close to 80 here today! All the trees are budding and blooming.

Hi Everyone!

I'm still doing great on Day 4. I've eaten within my Points range every day, and I've exercised every day. Today is when I would typically say to myself, "I'm doing so well, I'll have a little food reward.". Not today! I know it's very early and I shouldn't have done it, but I sneaked a peak on the scale. Down 2.5, and I intend to keep it that way!

I bought The Beck Diet Solution, and so far I like it. It has one activity a day for six weeks, and you can follow it with any diet plan. It's focused on the mental aspect, which is where I always get into trouble. Yesterday I made note cards with the reasons I want to lose weight, and I read them twice a day. That really helped this morning, we had a caterer come in with a menu for people to taste (he's looking for our business, and we order for a ton of meetings). My associate went and I did not even go to the room, the last thing I need to do is taste from a buffet of goodies! I pulled out my cards, went over my reasons, and felt good about my decision. I know it's a little thing, but I would normally totally be tripped up by it.

Kat -- I'm not a runner, either, but I'm learning to walk fairly fast, and jog a bit. I can't run to save my life :sad2: Well, I guess if Jason/Freddy was after me! :rotfl2:

Raen -- Oh my goodness! :grouphug: You have had quite the time. I am not a medical professional nor do I play one on tv, but it sounds to me like you need to see yours up close and personal. A possible pre-stroke sounds very serious. My mom used to have TIAs (transitive inoxemia attacks), and it's pretty scary. Please go get checked out!

Luna -- Like you I can smell under 200, unfortunately I have a bit farther to go to be as close as you are. You will get there! :thumbsup2

Jennie -- Kristi Yamaguchi is definitely my favorite! I've been a fan of hers since way back. She's also in my mind the best. I think it will be an ok season. I can see about 4 with the potential to be really good. I think they could have eliminated 4 couples this week, but that's just me. :rolleyes1

Katie -- It's really hard to just be eating a lot less one day, I think it's better to try to taper off a bit from the higher calorie stuff, rather than cut it out completely. I feel less deprived when I do that. My scale is just whatever was on sale at Target, it's nothing special. :sad2:

Alicia -- I do WW online. Meetings are just too hard for me to get to. I really like it because I can track my food instantly at home and work, and I'm much more likely to do that rather than write in a journal, but I still have accountability, and I still get the cool chart which shows my progress. :cool1:

Tara -- How are you doing? I am so excited to be losing again. I just couldn't get my mind in the right place, and now everything seems to be coming together. :woohoo:

Ok, so here's my new find -- Dove Dark Chocolate Mint Caramel pieces. For those of you that do WW, they're one point per piece, and they are yummy and decadent. :lovestruc I've been having a few with my bedtime cup of tea, and I feel relaxed and ready for sleep. It seems like a good reward for my diligence during the day.

Ok, hang in there. The weekend is coming but I know we can be strong!

Maria

I just wanted to say you all made me laugh with these ones:

Kat [/Bfofinia - thanks for talking about that weird tv show (I can make you thin) I've been wondering what it was about but could never bring myself to actually watch it. If it really does start working for you, let us know!

I tried it after I read that. I haven't reached for the chocolate yet....

I wish I could run, though... running is almost like a club I can't join.

LOL! That is how I feel I want to join the club! And stop rubbing it in that you have nice weather! :thumbsup2 I can't wait for flowers!

I'm not a runner, either, but I'm learning to walk fairly fast, and jog a bit. I can't run to save my life :sad2: Well, I guess if Jason/Freddy was after me! :rotfl2:

:rotfl: yeah I bet I could break a 10 min mile then!!!:rotfl2:

congrats worfie!! I think we should all celebrate the small achievements as well as the big ones! 2.5 is awesome!

as far as running.. I wanted to tell you all that when I first moved here 2-1/2 years ago I could not run for the life of me. I would try to run on the treadmill at a speed of 3.0 and could barely do it for a minute. My DH runs on the treadmill for 30 minutes straight! Well, I just kept at it... doing small sprints at a time.. and now I can run for about 10-15 minutes straight (depending on the speed I'm at).

When I'm on the treadmill now, I usually do 5 minutes of running (starting at 4.3) then 5 minutes walking, 5 minutes running, etc..etc. Only each time I run I will push the speed up a bit at the end of the 5 minutes to push myself. If you want to run, you can do it! A lot of it is mental really.

OK, I did really bad last night.. I didn't do my second workout and only did the nordictrack for 45 minutes... plus I ate too much.. so today, saturday, and sunday I'm going to try to eat healthy and get under the 200 mark come monday morning! What sucks is I have a birthday party for my nephew to go to saturday. No cake for me! Have a healthy weekend everyone! :dance3:

BTW, am I the only one who looks at hot women as motivation? LOL. My hubby probably loves it but I keep pictures of hot girls in bikinis as my wallpaper on my computer so when I see them I will remember that one day I want to be one of those hot girls in a bikini! Right now I have the 3 playboy girls from "the girls next door" as my background! That and looking at cute clothes totally motivates me.

Well I did it! I just signed up for WW at home :) I always forget about the online and I never end up making it to the meetings....

So now this is a one time all paid for thing and I'll have my food journal, my books saying how many points things are and I got the deluxe or plus or whatever you call it which came with a calculator..and I think that will really help for when I am out.

Thank you all for being so encouraging :) I really want to get this weight off this time and I know that I can do it..I just need to stick with it!!!

We went to the store today and I got lots of healthy snacks...carrots, celery, cucumbers, apples, raw peanuts, pistacios... I know the nuts are fatty but atleast they are good fat and I need something to munch on while at work..I work from home, at my computer so it's very easily to end up sitting there snacking ALL day if I am not careful. I figure the peanuts and pistacios require work so I will be more concious of it!!

Luna99 - no I do that too lol. I don't keep them as my desktop background because for work sometimes I have to share my screen in an online meeting and that wouldn't be good for everyone to see LOL...but I definitely look to hot women for inspiration to stay with it. Especially the ones who have those beautifully strong bodies..not the ones who are just naturally thin. I appreciate those women more because they work at it, the reason they look like that is because they work hard to be that way..and it shows me that if I too work hard I could look like that! (Or as close to that as one can get after having three kids LOL)

Stillthefairest - how does WW at home work? how much does it cost? I've thought about doing something like that but once I went with a co-worker to Jenny Craig and saw how much the pre-packaged food was and realized this was not for me! The food costs SO MUCH MONEY! It's outrageous!

btw... DH sabatoged (sp) me yesterday. I was doing good food wise until we got out of a movie and DH wanted to get something to eat. Ok.. so we ordered a bowl of cheese soup each (small bowl - still not that great I know) and we split the mahi mahi with broccoli and a small breadstick. Not TOO bad right? Well, DH wanted to order dessert....

this is when that little thing called WILLPOWER is supposed to kick in... but I think God skipped me on the day he was passing that out...

and DH and I shared the fudge covered cheesecake!

AAAHHHH, the shame!!! :sad2: :guilty:

There is two different types of it..regular and deluxe or whatever.

With both of them you get the books that tell you the points values of different food. You also get the "WW at home" book which I am assuming explains the program and how to do it, a year's subscription to their magazine, and the points slider which lets you calculate any food's point value based on what the calories, fat and fiber are in it.

Then the deluxe which is the one I did also includes a calculator to find points, a cook book, a bag to carry it all in, a fitness dvd and I think 2 other books.

The regular is $99 one time or three payments of $33 and then the plus/deluxe is $129 one time or three payments of $43. So, it's alot but since it's just the one time it's not too bad :) It's cheaper then going to the meetings since the meetings is $12 every week for as long as you are on the program or $49.95 a month to do monthly pass..but again it's for the whole time you're on it....and for me the meetings just didn't work anyway because in my area they were very cliquey. And I didn't fit with any of the cliques and I felt like an outsider and I didn't feel like I really got the support that I wanted to get from them and it kind of always made me want to eat MORE after going because it reminded me that I have no friends around here (we moved here about two years ago)

Just found this thread and would love to join if it's not too late. I need all the encouragement that I can get. Thanks

thanks for explaining that to me! I guess it's not that bad if it's a one time fee... good luck with it! And don't worry.. I've been living here about 2 years and 7 months and I really don't have any good girlfriend either and sometimes I get a bit sad about it. Yeah, I've got my DH  ;) ... but sometimes a girl needs her girlfriends ya'know?
