15 years later, still VERY glad to have our DVC!

We're late starters since we're on the West Coast, but we finally took the plunge in 2005 and started with SSR and two small add ons. We ended up selling our SSR contracts and buying VGC as we take many more trips to DL than WDW. DVC has allowed us to take the most wonderful trips we otherwise wouldn't be able to afford and we love sharing with our family and friends. No regrets for us only wonderful memories.

So glad to fine fellow DVCers who are as happy as we are with our "home away from home". We are empty nesters in our early 60's and really love going for a little R&R to Disney. We don't do rope drop or commando because we don't have to! We usually go at low attendance times and are more into just going with the flow and doing whatever we feel like. Since our room is "paid for" we can enjoy eating at the more upscale restaurants and not worrying about the bills. One of my favorite things to do is sit on my AKV balcony and watch the animals whils sipping my morning coffe or evening glass of wine. We still like the rides and shows, but go at a slower pace. We are taking our kids and grandkids next week for a Grand Villa experience and can't wait! I'm sure this trip will not be as relaxing and laid back as the others but it will be a super family memory!

OMG! I could have written this word for word.:goodvibes Even sipping my morning coffee on the balcony or a glass of wine in the evening. And we are taking extended family to stay in a Grand Villa at Kidani next February.
Love our DVC!!

We have only been owners since 2009 but can't imagine ever not being happy to be owners.

We had been going to WDW on and off, almost yearly, since 1994 but couldn't do DVC because we just wanted to be near MK and prior to BLT, it wasn't an option.

Now that we own and that cost is gone, it just seems so much less expensive to go. We are bringing family this summer and it was so easy to just book a 2 bedroom so they can come.

Matter of fact, I am thinking that we may now always go with a 2 bedroom every summer and offer to take others with us--either my children's friends or family that might want to go. Just to see how excited others get to be able to go is joy enough for me as an owner.

Well, I posted a version of this on the Budget Board, and of course, the Negative Nellys start in!

Here is my DVC story...

I grew up going to WDW with my family. In those days there was no DVC, but we did have an RV that made it possible for our family of 6 a visit to Fort Wilderness every year. Those are still some of my favorite childhood memories.

Fast forward 16 years and I return to WDW on my honeymoon and see the DVC kiosk. While a purchase wasn't in the card on that trip, we vowed that "someday" we would buy in.

A year and 1/2 later, we were told our 6 month old DD had cancer (neuroblastoma) It was a very emotional time. While my DD was getting healthy that year, we kept saying that we were going to take her to WDW as soon as she was healthy enough to go. We took her for her first visit when she was 17 months old. It was truly a magical trip. It was during that trip, I decided to continue the family tradition that I grew up with and collected DVC information. I wanted as many if not more wonderful memories with my DD and future children.

We bought a year later after the birth of our second DD. We have been going every year since. We have been lucky enough to treat my mother and her DH with two trips. It was her DH's first trip at 78 years old his second trip at 79. He has since been diagnosed with cancer and is too ill to travel now. But he still loves to watch the video he took from that trip and my mother has often said how much she loves the pictures from that trip because her DH looks so healthy in them. She keeps a picture (from that trip) of the two of them on the fridge.

Most recently, last April we treated my brother, sis in-law, mother and niece (7) to a visit at OKW. It was nieces first trip. She hasn't stopped talking about that trip. My kids will always remember the time when their cousin got to go with them just like I remember the year my cousins joined us back in 1985.;)

Anyway, it has been 6 years since we bought in and we couldn't be happier with our purchase. I look forward to the many years of memories with my family, friends and someday grandkids.....

Oh yeah, it's insanity over there. I do find it hard to understand how people can be so negative to someone else who obviously feels good about something.

Otherwise, I'm with ya!

There is an old window sticker often seen on Jeeps that reads, "it's a jeep thing, you wouldn't understand". A slight modification to this phrase fits rather well with DVC.

We are five year owners and 14 year Disney enthusiasts. I came very close to having to sell last year but we weathered the financial storm and will be headed back down to our second home in three days. I am looking forward to many more trips in the future. My younger of two children graduated from high school last night and I am now looking forward to some trips with just the DW and me, as well as trips with DD, DS and DDIL in tow as well.

I know most don't understand we Disney frequenters obsession. I just like the fact that when we go there we do everything as a family and the smiles and great times we have enjoyed are priceless. Staying in a DVC villa where we have room to stretch out and relax on a couch or chair adds greatly to the trip, no doubt. Thanks for everyone sharing there positive views!

Boy good point.....It's hard to pinpoint why somebody else being happy makes them so crazy and determined to try to explain to you why your luxury purchase isn't a good idea, and you couldn't possibly be really enjoying it.

Oh, and apparently, I'm stuck with DVC for like another 40 years! (Like that's a bad thing....)

I think that your posts are antagonistic, and probably perceived as bragging, and therefore you are putting off some. Further, I don't think anyone on that thread is telling you that you cannot enjoy your purchase. Many have said that you should enjoy it. However, since it is the Budget Board you should expect opposing opinions as to the value of such a purchase.

After all, timeshare purchases are terrible decisions for most people. I think that is relevant discussion for the Budget Board. By coming over to this thread and complaining about posts on the other the implication is that you are bragging. You come across as taking the position that failure to purchase DVC makes one a fool. That attitude seems quite common among a few DVC owners - as if DVC is some privileged club and that everyone else is, or should be, jealous.

Understand that some of us are pleased not to own a timeshare. Put me in the category of people who have difficulty understanding why anyone would want to own DVC. I am not saying that you should be unhappy with your purchase, but that I see no value in such a purchase. NOT purchasing DVC was one of the best decisions we made. I would be happy to tell you why.

You have every right to be happy with your purchase. It is great that the product works for you. Just don't expect others to feel the same way.

Un real.

Anyways.... thanks for sharing your joys with us, especially new owners. For what it's worth, I agree with the poster who said that life is too short to worry about all the things that you have no control over. We are going to be having our first trip home in August with our 5 month old son, his first trip and our 2 year old daughter, her third trip already! Having a lifetime of memories and quality time with the family is more important to me than never going on vacation due to money, or time or other worries. DVC actually lets me afford the opportunity to do that without excuses.

Glad to read that you still love DVC. We also love our DVC. We stayed in a 1 bedroom at OKW in January and loved it just like always.
