15 years later, still VERY glad to have our DVC!

We bought in '03 to give mom the best 85th birthday party we could possibly think of. We continued to add on because our family grew, and we continue to enjoy WDW with family and friends.

For us, this picture says it all! Mom on her 85th birthday!

What a wonderful picture! I can see the overwhelming happiness in her face.

19 years here and enjoying DVC more than ever. Our kids were 6 & 7 when we joined. They are grown but still love to go to Disney. My wife and I are enjoying our second childhood with our trips to Disney with out kids. We just did our first add on getting 150 points at SSR to go with our original 270 at OKW. That should hold us unless the rumored tiered loyalty program makes it worth it to reach 500 points.

We are also 19 year members. I was introduced to WDW in 1973 by my Mom, who did have the pleasure of staying at OKW (before it was called OKW) a few times before she paased away in 1996. When we joined we had one DD who was 4. Now she is 24, got married at WP last year, still wants to go to WDW as does my DS now 16.

Over 55 trips later, I can't possibly put a price on the joy and memories we have had and continue to have. In fact, my DW and I leave tomorrow for our fourth "no kids" trip.

I am constantly scanning the resales for an add-on, but, realistically, our 385 points is sufficient and our next Fl. purchase will probably be a 2nd home --- near WDW, of course!

Well Sammie are you still receiving the same wages you were making back in the 90s when you first bought in?? I doubt it.:rolleyes1

I love this thread, there are many who sell off their DVC for many reasons and I may do so some day but for now its....:dance3:  :goodvibes :cool1: :cool1: :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2:lovestruc:cheer2:, etc. We have been going and using for the last 6 years and can not wait to get "there" in November!!!

When people say "why do you continually go...", I just smile because I am hooked so wonderfully!!

And as for buying in now, many have and will continue to say "it's just not as good", well to the best of my knowledge we cannot go back in time, so... hop on board and enjoy the ride!

I am 64 years old and am not promised another day on this earth, and remember you will never see or experience this day again...be it good :)or bad. :scared1:

Moe

Actually Moe, I make less now than then.

Joined over 18 years ago sight unseen. 48 different family and friends have spent time enjoying DVC with us over the last 18 years and YES it's still the best family decision we ever made.:goodvibes:goodvibes:goodvibes

2009 and 2 add ons. We love our DVC, We went once a year before (before buying DVC) so now we'll get to go for the next 48 years, and stay at better places!! I love BLT and would hate to pay rack rate - for us it was better to take that one year hit and own it.

Not for everyone - but it is for us!!:cheer2:

jodifla, we are with you. We joined in 2003 after first taking the tour in 1999. We bought 150 points because that was the minimum buy in and really all that we felt we could afford. While I've looked many, many times at the resale sites and we talked about it for years, we still haven't added on. 150 points is a good number for us. Dues are not a burden and we still can go once a year and get a 1BR (which is a MUST). Lately, I've almost talked myself into that 150 points will be it for us. As our boys get older, they may want to venture to other places. I'd hate to get myself "locked" into having to go to WDW. Oh the horror! ;)

The only thing is I think eventually we'll have to move up to a 2BR because I really don't think 2 boys are going to want to share the sleeper sofa as they get older! Then we may "have" to do an add-on!

That and I about choke every time we get a DVC mailer that states that BLT is around $140 per point.

We've only owned for 4 years, and I love reading all these wonderful stories. DH was the driving force in becoming members, I'm the "grown-up" and held out for a few years. But I'm so glad he won out!

thanks for the post - always nice to see positive comments on these boards.

I do get what you are saying. I'm frugal...but once the money is spent, as long as I'm having a great time, I can let it go. I only suffer when I spend a lot of money then feel it's not worth it!

Haha exactly how I feel, it's why the dining plan always works well for me. Paying up front removes that mental value judgement on each entree!

11 years and going strong! Love DVC today as much as I did when I purchased! I struggled with the thought of having to sell it during this rough economy, I'm beyond happy that I was able to keep it, DVC/Disney is such a big part of our family good times and memories!

You know, in reality, I think we actually like our DVC MORE than we did when we first purchased 14 years ago. It was fun and exciting then, but it's so much more than that now. It's just a truly EASY vacation that we know we will take at least twice a year. I no longer feel any stress to over plan anything. Heck, we don't even get any ADRs anymore except when we do things like the CP or another special event.

I purchased in 2009 and I am glad to read about all the positive experiences of long time owners. I found dvc to be a good value for my family and thats what counts. If you are hung up on investments and making your money grow etc... good luck and God bless, I am going back to blt in 28 days to enjoy the fruit of my investment:cool1:. Again thanks for sharing the good things.

So glad to fine fellow DVCers who are as happy as we are with our "home away from home". We are empty nesters in our early 60's and really love going for a little R&R to Disney. We don't do rope drop or commando because we don't have to! We usually go at low attendance times and are more into just going with the flow and doing whatever we feel like. Since our room is "paid for" we can enjoy eating at the more upscale restaurants and not worrying about the bills. One of my favorite things to do is sit on my AKV balcony and watch the animals whils sipping my morning coffe or evening glass of wine. We still like the rides and shows, but go at a slower pace. We are taking our kids and grandkids next week for a Grand Villa experience and can't wait! I'm sure this trip will not be as relaxing and laid back as the others but it will be a super family memory!

We've been a member of DVC for over 10 years at the BWV, and I have to say it was one of the best decesions we made. Some of our best memories come from our trips. The only thing scary thing is when we first started there I carried my son on my shoulders, and now he's in college. 6'1, and over 200 LBS. It goes by quick !

Dh & I are right there with ya! We have been going to WDW for 36 years every since our Disneymoon in 1975. We raised up our kids going to WDW. In 2005 DH & I took our first Disney cruise and bought DVC onboard the Magic sight unseen. We have never regretted it. Not only do we enjoy trips with the just the two of us but now we can host family, as well. Another trip we love is to visit Vero once a year--a true vacation. We hosted our daughter's family at WDW this past Dec. with our 6 & 3 year old granddaughters. Definatey a much different trip than we are accustomed to but it was a delight to share the experience with all of them. Without DVC we could never afford such a trip making memories!

18 years! Wow time has really flown by! Love our DVC more every year. It is definitely our R&R time in Disney. Our boys were raised at Disney and still love it. Been empty nesters now for 4 years and DS 25 & 23 talked us in to taking them this summer. We will probable need another trip after that just to rest back up, but hey adding some great family memories. That's what is so great about DVC. Go when you want to and take who ever you want.

We bought into DVC in 2007 after having been to Disney about 8 times including our Honeymoon in 1974. My DW still feels like we should be keeping up with the kids when they come but I keep telling her we don't have to. We will be coming back. She is finally settling in and enjoying the resort more each time we come back. To me, DVC is finally giving us a true Home Away From Home.:woohoo:

Ditto! I remember our youngest at the MK running in front of me with her arms out saying "carry me for just 2 minutes, please". She was a peanut. Well that peanut is 21 now and just got back from Ireland where she was partying abroad. I'm sorry "studying abroad". Silly me. Oh how time flys by.
