14 Happy Meals? Really?

i know, im just expressing how i would feel as the OP... :P

besides, mcdonalds make their food amazingly fast. i doubt u wait more than 2 mins for your food anyways...

Obviously you have never been to our McDonald's :lmao: I have told them more than once they are the slowest fast food I have ever seen!!!

They are supposed to have something like a 45 second rule from the time the person pays to the time they get their food. So they just hold but everyone up at the pay window when they get backed up. :rotfl: Its much faster to go inside.

Maybe the recipients of the food will come out to the car to help carry it in.

I've never seen anything on a drive through specifying that they are only intended for those who are heading to work in a hurry. I always figured they were for people who had sleeping kids in the car, or who had trouble walking, or didn't think they could carry multiple meals and drinks, or were in the middle of doing yard work and smelled too bad to go in to order, or had dogs they didn't want to leave in a hot car, or who didn't want to walk through the pouring rain with their food, or any one of a bunch of other reasons. But I guess those who are on their way to work are welcome to use the drive through too. :)

I was once told on this very board that drive thrus are the devil and only fat and lazy people use them!

:rotfl2: That doesn't surprise me but my thinking is whoever said that probably thought fast food in general was for fat & lazy people, so who cares what they think of drive thrus.

Of course, what do I know....I'm pretty much a slaker... ;)

I'm thinking the person who ordered 14 happy meals might have been having a sleep-over or something and was probably on edge anyway, better they go through drive thru than lose it on someone in the store. Of course, I'm also the weirdo that would check every single one of those Happy Meals to make sure the order was CORRECT (NOT in the drive through line though). Absolutely nothing worse than getting home and finding out your plain cheeseburger has everything on it and if it were for little kids that makes it even worse (or NO TOY! YIKES! BTDT too).

I remember that thread--and I was thinking of it the whole time I was reading this one.

I just want to let everyone know that thanks to this thread I went to McDonalds this morning. You guys got me craving it!! I did go through the drive-thru but I only ordered 2 items and I was on my way to work, so I think I was allowed to, right?

You can't call ahead to a fast food place and have your order waiting. (At least not where I live.)

Nope - the drive through line is just one of the lines available at the fast food place. If you find the drive through line too long, or that one annoying person is holding it up, you can choose to leave that line yourself and go inside.
But would you really want to call the order in? I would imagine that your fries would be disgusting and cold by the time you got there to pick up your order and then got them home. Yuck. Cold fries are just not good.
Even if there were, some people would ignore it anyway like they do at the grocery store.

I do find it ironic after reading sooo many threads in the 11 years I've been on this board complaining about the "me me me" attitude that so many would be OK with this.
At least the gripping and whining would be legit then. If the company (store, restaurant, bank or whomever) had a limit or rules and the person disregarded them then I could understand people being annoyed and upset. However, McDonalds has no such rule. This is just some made up rule that some people seem to think that everyone should follow just so that it doesn't inconvenience them.

I totally remember that thread!!! :rotfl: That crazy poster sent me a long PM rant about how horrible and lazy people are for using the drive thru. He was really off his rocker. It was my first PM flame. :lmao:

Because of this thread I will be visiting my friendly McDonald's drive thru for a cheeseburger and fries for lunch today. I went to bed thinking about it last night!:lmao:

Let's be honest. This board is full of lying, judgmental hypocrites. Obviously, this doesn't refer to everyone and I have no idea who is lying and who is not, but this board is a representation of real life. Real life has liers, thieves, adulterers, and fast food eating, pajamas in Wal Mart wearing people that have bad credit. Guess what. They're on the Dis too. :scared1:

:lmao:popcorn::

Just had the longest shift ever, but this thread is so amusing I am gpoing to read it. Such outrage. lol. It never ceases to amaze me here on the dis. lol.

Ding ding ding!!! We have a winner!

I'm with you... It's all I've thought about since I started reading it.

Although I had a funny experience related to this, except I was the culprit. I have to share, lol.

I was at a race and my friend's car was pretty busted and they needed to work on it to prepare it for the next day. Tons of crew guys pitched in to help, and they handed me a $100 bill and said to get as much Taco Bell as I could, and to make sure some were cheese only. Fair enough--I have been doing food runs for them for 10 years in various parts of the US, lol.

So off I go. I was the only person in the drive through, and I ordered for the guys and myself. The order came to $94 and change. While giving my order you could tell they were not happy. I get to the window, and this guy told me off. He said I should have called in advance. :confused3 I don't keep the number to Taco Bell in my phone and there was no advance. He continued to tell me that the order was excessive for them to handle. I told him that if it was that excessive, then he should be giving them a hand in preparing it instead of lecturing a paying customer. He got the last word by telling me.... well next time, just call. Okayyyyyyyy.

So in case you were wondering... if you are feeding 13 or more people at Taco Bell--you should phone in your order :rotfl2: Don't go thru the drive thru, don't go inside.... call it in!! :rotfl: I didn't know there were so many rules to fast greasy food!!

Well, yeah but...you started it! ;)

I'm with the "it's not an express lane" crowd, but I guess my biggest question is how did the OP actually hear all of the details of the order? In all of my years, even being in a convertible, I've never been able to hear the person in front of me in a drive-thru ordering in such detail.

Please tell me you got this idiots name and called corporate?

Oh no! According to this apparent drive through authority (they worked at one so they must be right!) lots of people are using the drive through wrong.
5. Drive Thrus are for people in a hurry, not people who are too lazy to go inside. If you need to order a meal for your entire family of four, six or more, park your car and step inside for a carry out order.

So if you have a family of four or more and they all want to eat, no more drive through for you! :rotfl:

Only in the minds of a few people.

how would carry that large order out to your car?

Who ever said that the drive thru is for people on their work in a hurry? What if I'm in a hurry on the way to the airport? or a doctor's appt? or any one a million other places? I'll just throw it out there, because I am sure someone else will, if you're in that much of a hurry, maybe you need to learn to manage your time in a more efficient way.

The original drive thrus at Mickey D's were meant to be a convenience, I worked one of the first ones. There were, and are, no rules as to who can and cannot use them. If there were rules as to who can use a drive thru, then they would be posted. Since there aren't any rules posted, anyone who has a desire to use them, can.

Ok, so you would be perfectly fine with waiting behind me in line in the drive-thru while I asked detailed questions about each and every menu item, had a discussion about it with my passengers, and then, after about 20 minutes or so, placing my order through the intercom? Then, when I got to the pay window, figuring out how to split the bill between me and the passengers, paying after about 5 minutes worth of calculating and counting money. Uh oh - then I decide the add something to my order and ask some more questions about menu items, and think about it for a bit and then place my order. Then we go through another 5 minutes of calculations and paying. And, finally, 30 minutes after I got to the menu board, I'm at the window to receive my food. I check each and every order as it comes out and discover that one of them is wrong - well, it was not ordered correctly so it needs to be changed. More questions about menu items and discussions ensue and another order is placed. More calculations and paying are done as the original calculations are rendered invalid due to the incorrect order. Now, it's aobut 45 minutes after I (and you!) arrived at the drive-thru and I finally have my food and you're finally getting yours. But you're ok with this because it was convenient for me.

Keep in mind that this is not a "pull to the side and wait for your large order" situation. Each of these steps required interaction with the workers.

I'm sort of with the OP. If you're going to go through the drive-thru, make it as quick as possible. You can order 14 happy meals but there shouldn't be special orders and modifications from standard.

Funny thread, but here is my take.

With big or complicated orders, I always go inside if there is any kind of drive-thru line. You only hold up 1 line there and there are other registers for everyone to use. In the drive through, you kind of hold up everyone. Ive also noticed how the drive-thru employees are judged on quickness.

For me, its just a consideration thing. People are in hurry and it doesn't kill me to go inside , especially during the morning or lunch rushes.

Now, what does drive me bananas are people staring at the menu, asking a hundred questions, and trying to decide at that moment. Its FAST FOOD people..burgers..just pick one! FAST, you order fast, they cook it fast, you are out of there FAST!

Wow, if it's taking you 45 minutes to order and get your food at a drive-thru then you have some pretty big issues. As a matter of fact, I would be wondering if it was safe to have you behind the wheel of that car. There is no question, some people aren't that bright, but 100 questions at a fast food restaurant? Thirty minutes to figure out what you want?:rotfl: There is slow, then there is just stupid. Your scenario is just so realistic. :rotfl2:

So what number is acceptable? I can also guarantee you that I can order for my whole family quicker than it takes 2 adults to decide what number to order. Should they not be ordering because they passed the magic time limit that you are allowed to be there? Drive thrus are for convenience. That means not having to leave your car. It is not an express lane.

That can be construed as offensive to any reasonable adult who's patronized the venue recently or with some regularity (or both) - even one or a pair who wish to try something new.
