DD will be 12.5 months on our trip in December. Since she's my only baby, all I know is that she'll be eating some table solids and some purees. I do plan on having her off bottles by that point too. I'd like to have diapers, baby food, etc. shipped ahead of time. We're making all her baby food right now so I'll need to buy a few jars of whatever we're getting shipped so I can make sure she likes it.

So what did your 12 month old eat at WDW?

We went for my son's first birthday and he was eating table food, so he'd eat off our plates. I tried to make sure someone in our group got something that would be easy and healthy for him to eat. When my daughter was 12 months she wasn't really eating much solids at all, she was still getting most of her calories from nursing (a picky eater even then). If she were suddenly that age again and we were going to Disney I would just bring a few applesauce squeezies and whatever crackers or puffs she liked and offered table food if she was willing to try it. If I were you I wouldn't send ahead baby food, you just won't need much, if any at that age. A 12 month old is usually pretty happy eating little pieces of cheese, bread or toast, little pieces of meat, whole peas or corn or broccoli cut up, that sort of thing. Table food, just made into finger food size pieces.

By that age my kids were not eating baby foods any longer. I did use some of the Gerber Graduates products for convience when the foods that we ate did not work for the baby.

My kids were also off baby food by that age. They ate almost everything we ate, just chopped into tiny pieces. Like the PP said, I would take baby friendly snack items. My kids loved those little puffy things Gerber makes, arrowroot cookies, and yogurt puffs.

We took our DD for her first trip at 12.5 months too! She was eating all table foods by then. We ordered off the kids menu for her mostly mac n cheese and potatoes a lot of applesauce. We had bfast in our room so she could have her usual cheerios and oatmeal and toast and bananas (not all on the same day lol) She shared some things with us, Mexican rice, pizza and we got her pasta too.

We're taking DD at 11.5 months old. At 9 months now, she is already eating mostly table foods with just the occasional puree. We feed her almost everything we eat. Fruits, veggies, meat, bread. I just rip them into smaller pieces. She'll try anything. DH and I are both pretty simple eaters and if one of us wants to get something that I don't think she'll eat, the other will get something that she will and share with her. We are also doing a lot of character meals (buffets) so I know those meals will have lots of options.

My kids just ate what we ate at that age, but I always made sure they had tons of fruits and veggies, even if we didn't.

By that age, a one year old is pretty much just eating finger food and drinking from a sippy cup. Only thing I'd do is make sure to have things like Ritz crackers and Cheerios handy for snacks. The restaurants at Disney are so family friendly, so you will find enough for your child to eat.

I was surprised too, but my son ate baby food for only about two months. They outgrow that very quickly, and they need to feed themselves then. You'll find plenty to eat, like soft meats, cheese bits, fruits, bread, etc... So don't worry about baby food, you'll be way beyond that!

OP here.

Right now at 8 months DD still doesn't have a single tooth! I doubt she'll have a full mouth full when we go on vacation so that's why I'm thinking we'll still be on some pureed food. I was thinking about gerber graduates for convenience sake. Any other thoughts?

They don't need teeth to eat table foods! especially a full mouth. Their gums are incredibly tough and they can chew really well with just gums and even 1 or 2 teeth will make a difference.

My DS never ate baby food or even pureed food.If he couldn't put it in his mouth himself he didn't eat it. I never fed him off a spoon. From about 4 months on it was all cut up or soft table food that he could pick up. like pasta, cheese, scrambled eggs, cooked vegetables, ground beef, he loved and still does love mashed potatoes. (13 yrs later)

My daughter is 12 months old now and still eats some baby food. She is transitioning to Gerber graduates toddler food. She has some choking and gagging problems with adult food so we've slowed her introduction to that down considerably. My son at the same age was off of baby food by now. So it really depends on the child. I'd wait until you get close to your dates adn then make a decision.

I think the reality is you are going to have to wait and see where your little one is closer to the trip. Some babies are still pretty much eating baby food and other have never eaten it and most fall somewhere in between. I think the biggest thing to consider is making any changes in her diet, well before the trip. If you choose to take her off the bottle before then, do so at least a month before so that she will be very well adjusted to life without a bottle. One of mine was so ready to give up the bottle before a year old. The other fought it tooth and nail and was almost two! Same for formula. Most doctors say a year at least, but you will want to be sure that transition is made well before the trip. I personally would consider waiting till after your return to take her off the bottle or formula. So nice to have a bottle for comfort on the flight or in a strange place, and powder formula is so much easier to deal with than trying to find and keep whole milk cold. No way will waiting till after the trip to switch make any difference at all.
As far as foods, I would be very careful to not introduce any new foods on the trip. Not the time to risk upset tummy or food reactions.
The Gerber Graduates travel well and can keep her diet limited to things she has had before in addition to the table foods she has tried and tolerated well at home.
I know it seems sorta weird to plan food introductions and weaning around a trip but you will be soo glad that you did.

DD has no teeth and she is 9 months. They don't need them to eat. Last night for dinner, DD had tacos with us (chicken, olives, red peppers, cheese, tortilla) just ripped into smaller pieces.

Why do you think the graduate meals will be easier? You are going to eat yourself at some point so just give her what you are eating. Saves you money and less that you have to worry about bringing :)

Now if you think she'll still be on baby food by then, I'd get the squeeze pouches like Plum Organics and Earth's Best. They have the little spoon that twist onto them so they are super easy to travel with and use.

Our DD will be just shy of 13 months when we arrive at WDW in September. She is off of bottles now and has been off of baby food purees for quite some time.

I plan on doing packs of oatmeal and diced fruits (whatever I can find at the resorts; they usually sell small packages of melon fruit, or grapes), and the occasional cut up Mickey Waffle and cut up piece of breakfast sausage or breakfast potatoes, all shared from our plates.

For lunches and dinners, we plan on her eating bits of our meals, and a side dish of veggies of her own (my mother is a vegetarian, so I know that if you ask at pretty much ANY CS or TS restaurant, they will sell you a small bowl "mixed veggies"; they are usually stewed vegetables, but they are better than nothing).

For snacks, we will be packing a small amount of her usual - Mott's applesauce packs, Plum puffs and yogurt bites, Baby Goldfish, Ritz crackers - if she needs more, we will buy it there!

Good luck, have fun!!!

What we've done before is just brought a jar of veggies, those little gerber graduate meals, etc... along with us. That way we know we had food that they'd eat. (ours were eating purees for a long time - I think it was a sensory thing) So we fed them off our plate and supplemented what we brought.

Just came back from our trip with our 11 month old DD. She is on all table foods now, so she pretty much ate what we ate. I also carried around cheerios, goldfish and applesauce pouches- which I kept cold and were a great break from the heat. The pouches are really convenient and easy to feed on the go if needed.

Yeah its amazing what thy can easily eat with very few to no teeth! Just make the pieces small and stick to soft foods and foods that get soft in the mouth (cheerios etc).

My two boys were eating nothing but breastmilk still at that age due to sensory issues. My daughter would just eat off of our plates. It was really easy! Keep in mind that some babies aren't eating solids well enough to go completely off of formula/breastmilk at that age. So, if you're not nursing, you may want to give some formula to help supplement her diet so you don't have to stress over the solids.

I just wanted to add to this conversation to not worry and stress to much over food for a week. It won't hurt them to not eat a completely balanced diet for a week. Go with the flow and enjoy your vacation. Let them eat what works and is easiest for the short time of your trip. like 2% instead of whole milk, carrots at every meal because they are available, chicken noodle soup 3 days in a row!

A good example is a 10 yr old who ate nothing but popcorn for lunch for an entire week at Disney , is now a completely healthy and full grown 30 yr old!

As many others have said at that age you can give them what you are having. There will be a lot going on so bring snacks for when he wants something and you're not at the table.
