I don't know what I missed but I'm glad I missed it! Let's get down to more reviews! MeI just like to DROOOOL!!

Take Italian food for an example, no matter where you go in the US except for maybe Italy in Epcot you are not gonna find authentic Italian food. Just because it maybe ran by Italians doesnt make it authetic Italian food. Take Olive Garden for an example. That place is originated FROM Italy. However, a friend of DH is from Italy. And he said that Olive Garden taste NOTHING like authentic Italian food. Only way to get it is if you go to Italy, the country itself..

Umm...Olive Garden was opened by GENERAL MILLS (an American company).

LOL this thread reminded me of when I was in college in upstate NY and we used to ask our parents to bring us authentic "Lawn Guyland" bagels because what they made in Albany just didn't compare.

and then there was the guy in southwest Florida who actually imported water from NYC to make his bagels more "authentic".

as for the SAI...I enjoyed my dinner there, I had the carne asada I think...but like most WDW restaurants the menu was rather limited...the atmosphere was the real "draw" as far as I was concerned.

actually, though, I have had much better Mexican-style food here in NY. and it bore the same resemblance to Taco Bell that Olive Garden bears to Italian restaurants in NYC and Boston. in other words, not even close.

That reminds me of my college days in Raleigh. I hated the pizza there. I never had Pizza Hut or Dominoes until I went to college.

I was thrilled when I found a place the made real NY style pizza. :dance3:

Don't get me started on franks. :scared: Who in the world came up with the idea of putting cole slaw on a frank.:headache:

Yuck, yuck, yuck

Maybe this explains the "Chinese" food we have in AZ, most all the cooks are Mexican, no doubt it is very confusing!

OP, I am sorry your thread has turned for the worse. I know if I eat at SAI I will be getting food that is not Taco Bell, but I also know that the ingredients come from the US of A. Perhaps what your server meant was food prepared in Mexico is vastly different than what most Americans think Mexican food is.

Carry on.

Hey op, I am enjoying your thread and I wont mind if you post pics of half eaten entrees or say the word yummy a hundred times :thumbsup2 thanks for taking the time to post your reviews and pictures!!!

I'm with you, let's get on with the reviews!:goodvibes

one of the things Ilearned...the "authentic" dining experience. go into any restuarant in Chinatown or Flushing, listen for diners who speak Chinese to the waiters and then order what they order...the food on the English menu has been Americanized.

my friend who grew up in NYC and moved to DC after college told me you can't get good Chinese food inside the Beltway...but there's a huge Vietnamese immigrant community there and the Vietnamese food is incredible.

sad to say, the food in "China" at WDW is in the same category as the food in DC...I was very disappointed.

I am no craving Mexico food. I need to get in my car and drive south of the border to get my Mexico food fix!

Day 5 - Aug 9th
Breakfast - 'Ohana (pic 1 - 13)
Dinner - Tony's Town Sqaure (pic 14 - 18)
Snack - Main Street Bakery (pic 19 - 22)

We had a ADR for 'Ohana at 9:30am. This was our very first time even stepping into the Poly and both DH and I fell in love with the Poly that we are DEF. gonna be staying there sometime. I wanted to stay there next time, but since we are buying into DVC, I wanna use our points for the 1st time at AKV.

After checking into 'Ohana they gave us leis to wear and then we had our picture taken. The photo package was $30.00 and wasnt included in the price of the meal, but we did buy it. It came with 1 - 6x8, 4 - 4x6 and another 6x8 that has Mickey, Pluto, Lilo and Stitch in it. However, I wish I knew all along that our pics can be viewed on the photopass website. They give you a photopass receipt when they give you your receipt for the meal (after they get you to buy the pics of course  ) and on the bottom of that receipt is a photopass # you can enter on the website. I wish I had known that when I bought the photo's. However it was only this one and one from Hoop-Dee-Doo. The other meals like CRT and Donalds that had a photo package, we didnt get a photopass receipt.

Our wait time was about 20 mins long. We then got called to be seated to our table. On our way to the table, our seater talked to us about the food and characters and gave us a basket of bread to carry ourselves to the table.

The food was really good. Character meet and greet was really good as well. Im glad that we were able to meet all the characters. As you can see :stitch2: is my favorite character. :)

We decided to skip lunch as we weren't very hungry and ate Mickey's Cookies 'n' Cream Sandwich's instead while waiting for the parade to begin. Sorry I forgot to take a pic of it. We also bought 2 waters.

TOTAL $9.00

We had a 6pm ADR at Tony's Town Sqaure. But at 5pm we were hungry so we decided to see if we could get in earlier, and we did. Infact we got seated almost immediately.

I have always loved TTS. And Im so glad I decided to go back. DH really didnt care what we did. So I had cancelled our ADR for LTT and went to TTS. I had booked our ADR back in June/July. Sorry cant remember exactly when. But was rather shocked I was able to grab an ADR so close to our trip for TTS. The service was good and the food was yummy! We would have gotten dessert, but we were to full. I think we were still feeling the effects from breakfast that morning at 'Ohana. When we left 'Ohana we were extra stuffed.

After dinner we walked around a little bit and paid a trip to the Main Street Bakery and got these to take back to the resort with us.

Chocolate Chip Cookies $4.00 - I thought they were gonna be soft but they werent. They were crunchy but still good.

To the poster who suggested that you can't make baguettes in a Canadian oven because then they wouldn't be authentic, do you really think all ovens in France are made in France by French companies?

No, I don't. However, our pathetic attempts (we've made a lot of them lol) to recreate a simple French baguette bear out my assertion that it is impossible to have an authentic French baguette outside of France. We've even purchased a baguette (in dough form) that was supposedly flown in daily from France to Vancouver - still didn't taste right.

Why is this such a hot button for so many people? :confused3 If someone's opinion is that they can enjoy an authentic food item only in the originating nation - what's the big deal?

Ohana sounds really good for breakfast. Thank you for taking time to write such a detailed review.

We loved it. Im considering going again next year but not sure. Just depends on what we really wanna do about meals. I especially loved the cinnamon rolls. They were so soft and sooo good! :cloud9: I loved the eggs to.

The bread looks like the best part to me. I can have fruit anytime, and I'm not a big egg eater, but I love bread.

I've heard mixed reviews about Ohana. That the food was cold, etc.
Sounds like it may just be what day you go. You're making it sound very appetizing! Mmmm...Mickey waffles! LOL
