OK first off I know that SAI gets A LOT of hate reviews, but I beg the differ - The service was great, atmosphere WOW and the food was actually pretty good. We didnt go in expecting Tex-Mex because you cant when you go to eat at SAI. Infact you cant expect unauthentic food from Epcot. Epcot only has authentic food. DH asked about the beef in our tacos, and according to the waitress, the beef they use in their tacos is the same beef you would find in Mexico. The beef doesnt taste like your normal ground beef you get here in the US in grocery stores. Its shredded spiced beef, and thats what made the tacos so good. So for all those who say you have true mexican food, unless you LIVE in Mexico, you dont. I remember reading one time that someone lived in CA and they claim they have true mexican food. No they dont. Only true Mexico food can only be found in Mexico and at SAI.
Good review so far. I just have to comment on this....
Even if you go to Mexico the food varies from region to region, just like anywhere else. I live about 45 minutes from the US/Mexico border, so we get VERY authentic Mexican food here. There are so many off the beaten path little stands, etc around here that have wonderful food. And I do not live in Mexico. ;) No offense, but I would think my little Nico's Taco Shop up the street might just have an edge in the authentic catagory over SAI! It's funny because even the shops in that pavillion have stuff you buy just about anywhere here, even at WalMart. Alot of what you see is an Americanized version of Mexico and/or a border town version. Deeper in Mexico is a very different vibe. I do enjoy the ride and the margaritas in the Mexico Pavillion though! :thumbsup2 And the guy working there from Texas instead of Mexico City or something. :rotfl: The whole thing just is a bit "off" for me. Not trying to be a drag or a know it all, just offering a different perspective.
Oh..... That beef in your tacos was called carne asada. SO GOOD!

Great reviews! SAI used to be a fave of ours but our last time there was pretty bad. We may give it another shot for lunch!

Isn't that Chocolate Wave at CR incredible?:thumbsup2

You're right. I lived in San Diego for years there there is a tripple chain of Alberto's/Robertos/Erilbertos..It's owned and operated by Mexicans.
The Carne Asada there is better than the Carne Asada at SAI, although they are similar. There are lots of authentic places in San Diego, alhough most are hole in the walls. I've eaten all over Mexico and Sand Diego and have found great food in both..As you said there are also huge regional differences in standard fare in Mexico

Great Reviews!!

I don't mean to sound like I'm putting you down.
I understand you were excited about the food at SAI.

Here in Vegas, the Hispanics out weigh all the other races.
Yes, you can find authentic food, markets, etc. here.
The Mexican food here in Vegas in my opinion blew away SAI.
SAI compared to chain resturants such as Ricardo's or Mayco's.

Out of the whole world, Mexico and SAI are not the only places to
get authentic Mexican food.

Come visit the Southwest, you will be pleasantly suprised.

I love the fact you booked the diver for your husband. I'm the Dis'er here and I'd love my DBF to do stuff like this: book the diver, send a cake, chocolates etc...but he doesn't really know you can and I'm not really the type who hints at what I want. I love that you just did it yourself for him(I know, I'm so backwards! I'm such a poor feminist).

PS It can be really stressful expecting taco bell tacos and get "real" tacos. I threw a fit the first time I went to a nice mexican restaurant...to be fair I was 7. But they were fabulous once I tried them. Personally I'd still avoid SAI for dinner. There is an amazing mexican/columbian place near me and I'd rather use my money or TS credits on something different. However, the ambience can't be beat...so perhaps I should just plan on a yummy mango margarita in fake volcano light...

Great reviews so far!

Haha sorry to freak you out. It's the Bananasaurus Rex! (my boyfriend has too much fun with paint) In college i was going to do a project on bananas (I'm a nutrition science major, and I had listened to a fascinating story on NPR) and he did that as a cover page on the powerpoint. Changed the topic, but I love the pic, and thus the signature :goodvibes

And sorry to be :offtopic: :flower3:

Fantastic reviews but how come romance is only alive when the woman does the organising?????

Happy Anniversary.

sounds like a fun trip but I sure hope you guys took advantage of the Dining Plan seeing how you had such a meal-centric trip :thumbsup2

As stated in my OP, we were NOT on the DDP. We decided we didnt wanna do it. We dont like the DDP, and not only that but when I figured out before we left if it worked out for us, it wouldnt have saved us any $. Would it have saved us money now that the trip is over and I know how much we spent? Who knows. Thats part of the reason why Im doing this dining review to see weither or not if we would have saved money do the DDP or not doing the DDP. As soon as I am done writing my reviews, I will announce weither or not if we would have saved money with or without the DDP. If we would have saved money doing the DDP, then depending on what the DDP is like next year, we may or may not do the DDP.

I'm anxious to hear how you come out! We did not do the DDP this year or last year because we did not do a tremendous about of TS meals, but when we go next time (after our stay at SOG in April), I am strongly considering it! It's just such a toss up for us because we often split meals....

I'll be very interested to find out your results. I tend to do about a TS meal a day and when I do the calculations prior to the trip, it always seems to be cheaper for me not to do the DDP.

I'm so glad you stood up for the "authentic" Mexican menu items .vs. Americanized Taco-Bell type Mexican! we are very fortunate to have an authentic Mexican ressie in a town near us--the family immigrated and has kept to the true Mexican flavor--everything from their meat to cheese is authentic--wonderful!!:goodvibes but certainly not anything using American ingredients! St. Angel is so calming and soothing when we go during the hot hot summer months. We love it!
