Gravy has meat in it. Meatballs or short ribs, I cook it for about 8 hours. Then skim off most of the oil and add extra virgin olive oil near the end of cooking.
Yes, my side of the family is very Italian. Savino is my maiden name.
Thanks Pumbaa_ & pumba!
Also, the results are in!!! I went ahead and tallied up the receipts.
The DDP would have cost us $911.76
We spent OOP on food and snacks that would have been covered in the DDP (not including appitizers, extra drinks and tips) $945.53
We spent $588 on extra drinks, tips and appitizers (which would have not been covered in the DDP, but we would still have gotten regardless).
Making it if we were on the DDP, we would have only saved $33.77!
So there you have it! Frankly Im glad we didnt do the DDP. We werent limited, and we didnt have to hear what we could and couldnt order. Worth spending the extra $33 IMHO.
Will we go the DDP route next time? Theres about a 99% chance that we WONT do the DDP!
Look people can argue with my statement. But like it or not, the only way your gonna find actual 100% true mexican food is in mexico. There might be good places around the US that might be "true" mexican food, chances are though, they are using american ingredients and/or cooking it another way then they would have in Mexico.
I think the reason people are getting bent out of shape is because the comment you made can be insulting to anyone who is of another ethnicity and living in America. You are saying that the food they make it not good enough. I personally think that is a pretty hurtful comment, and perhaps that is why you are seeing harsh reactions. My grandmother cooks Indian food the exact same way she did in India, even using the exact same spices since they are imported from India. To tell her she was not authentic would be insulting, and I think that is how many people felt in response to your comment.
Have I ever commented on people making their own stuff? No. I commented on restraunts. Not what you make in your house. Just about everyone (not everyone, almost everyone) on here took what I said the wrong way, twisted it in million different directions and posting negative comments about something I NEVER stated. I cant help if people cant read inbetween the lines.

I dont appreciate people putting words in my mouth. All I simply stated was in order to get 10000000000000000% authentic food from another country, you need to go to it. Where in that statement did I ever say that people cant cook or isnt good enough. Or Im bashing other ethnic groups? Why on earth would I bash other ethnic groups? Im irish. I cook irish food a lot. Is it just as good as I would get it in Ireland? Heck no. And I know that.
You really don't get it do you?
Many ethnic restaurants (not chains) are owned and operated by families who immigrated to America. The items severed in these restaurants are authentic.

Do yourself a favor. Eat some of this "authentic" stuff weither it be Mexican, Italian, French, etc. and then go and visit that country. I bet you any money that food will not taste the same. I know what Im talking about. I have had some pretty good mexican food from mexican family owned places and have been to mexico. Guess what...they taste nothing like each other.
You are really missing it. Please step outside yourself for a little bit and see this from someone else's point of view.
The "all I simply stated" is the part that is insulting.
So lets look at an example.
Lets use my neighbors from Mexico. The same food they made in Mexico their whole lives, is no longer authentic because they now live in the usa? Even though they are able to get the same products they bought in Mexico. But because its here, its no longer authentic. You don't think that's insulting to someone?!
Ingredients make the dish, NOT location. The dish orginates from the country or region and can be duplicated anywhere with imported ingredients.
I'm so done with this thread. Its very immature to not expect people to be insulted and to not see where you would be insulting someone.
Goodnight all.
