12 Days of Disney = 1 Happy Family! June 2011 TR (Update x2 7/19)

So, I have to say, you are a FABULOUS writer for being as young as you are... you have such flair for it... you know when *and how* to leave the reader hanging on and you tell everything in such an interesting way.
Also, I like your pictures. Your whole family is cute!
I'm subbing! Loving the read! Can't wait to read more. We are about what? Half way through your trip? Very good stuff!:thumbsup2

Thank you so much for joining in! Thank you so much! I'm rather fond of my family! Yes, about halfway through! I'm going to be so sad when I finish! I'm thinking I'll have to start my 2013 PTR pretty soon after I finish this!

Ooh! Have fun with your cousins!!! Family visits are so special. I'm sorry your mom scared you like that! You are entitled to a meltdown. At 33, I melt down quite often. ;). My kids will assure you of that. I'm also sorry about that game card! We didn't even try ours. We learned our lesson at pizza planet early in our trip. Disney arcades are a rip off. :confused3. When do you start school again?

Thank you! We are planning a day at Great America, a day in Chicago and a day to shop and swim! Should be a great time! Any suggestions for Chicago? I know we are taking the train, since we don't have enough room in the car and my cousins aren't allowed to drive in the city. Looking back on it, the meltdown was kind of silly, but it happens! My mom gets upset sometimes too! We start school at the end of August, I believe the 24th...what about you guys?

We go back right around then too. Sophie, Ethan, and Finn don't go back until after labor day. No fair!!! If I had just one day in Chicago, I would probably go to either millennium park (face fountains and bean!) or Navy Pier for the ferris wheel!!! Shopping on the magnificent mile is also fun. Sophie loves the American Girl Store (I have contemplated working there if I get sick of teaching!) Six Flags will be fun for you guys! We are going next Tuesday (I think). Bummer it wasn't the same day. If you ever make another trip to six flags, let me know! We have seasons passes and have been known to head there when we don't have other plans.

That stinks! Do they go to a baby-sitter when you're gone? I know the oldest wants to see the Marilyn Monroe statue, so I guess we'll be heading to millennium park. My sisters and I love the American Girl Store too! Which dolls does Sophie have? Bummer you won't be there! We usually go at least once a summer! Maybe sometime we can have a Chicago DIS meet, either there or Oakbrook or the American Girl Store or something? Our church youth group was going to go to Six Flags on Tuesday, but our whole church is going to a baseball game (minor league) on Monday night, so we didn't think it would work out. Now my brain is on DIS Meets! Hopefully one will work out for us sometime! :)

I SO understand and feel your pain about this meltdown!!! I booked a trip for my sons father and I a couple of years ago, before my son was born. At this time, my boyfriend had two kids living in florida with their mom, right in Orlando, which I had NO IDEA.

Scratch that, I knew about the kids, and I knew they lived in Florida, but I had no clue that they lived so close. I only expected the ex to drop them off for one day, thinking they lived FAR away from Disney. Boy was I wrong! We ended up having them EVERY day of the trip, AND they stayed in our room. WHICH HAD A QUEEN BED! Had I known this, I would have requested doubles.

I had also made numerous ADR's at Le Cellier, Germany, and CORAL REEF!!! All of which were only made for 2, and I had to call and calll and call to get these reservations...all of which, we missed. I'm still bitter about this whole trip, so trust me, you aren't alone!

I might sound like the evil stepmother from Cinderella, but the point of this story is that I had made elaborate plans, that took a lot of time and effort, all of which were turned in the completely opposite direction because my boyfriend is a bad communicator.

Every day of your trip was spent with them??:scared1: Sharing a room??:scared1: How romantic! That is horrible 1. That they did that to you and 2. that you had to miss all of the ADRs you made! Trust me, we all need to vent some times. Is he a better communicator these days?

I wouldn't have even cared if I had known, it was the fact that all these plans were set in place and apparently that didn't matter to anyone but me. Luckily, I made him feel bad enough that it hasn't happened since, and will never happen again lol Each time we go, I have specifically set aside days to be spent with his kids so we don't have that problem again. But they are moving super close to home, so now we really won't have that problem again. Glad we could vent together! lol :thumbsup2

Don't be sorry for your meltdown! You guys had your own plans. No reason to switch everything around to accomodate someone else. That would not have flown with me either!

Have fun with your cousins! Good luck to your Dad!

I have thought about getting that t-shirt for Skye...the size one! She's so tiny, it would fit so perfectly!

I have lived her since I was 3 and believe it or not, I have never been to Navy Pier except once when Tyler was 1 (I think) and there was a dino exhibit there...and he was crazy into dinos...and we just went there and back. It looks so pretty at night though...maybe some day!

Skye is not a really "doll-y" kind of girl but those American Girl catalogues come in the mail and she loves 'em. I try to get them and get rid of them before she decided she wants one...they are just too much money for a doll that she really does not even play with. I mean she has maybe three and they sit in the room with dust on them. Every once in a while she will pull one out and change it's clothes and then leave it...until she is told to put it away. So American Girl is really not worth it for her! Now, give her a stuffed chicken and she's all over it!!!! :rotfl2:

I think your melt down was justified...would it be alright for me at 40+ to have one if someone messes with my park plans! :rotfl2:

Short updates are better than none! No need to apologize as it was another fantastic update. I love that you have tons of Star Wars stuff.. that is great!:darth:

The flip flops are awesome! :goodvibes

June 9th, we got up around 7:30-8. We showered, got dressed, etc. While my sisters and I were getting ready, Dad ran to Riverside Mill and got a muffin and some milk. The muffins were very big and easily fed all three of us (though I typically don’t eat much breakfast). Pretty soon we were on our way to the South Depot! Where were we headed? Animal Kingdom!! I may have mentioned this before, but every time I go back, I like it more! The theming is just fantastic! We arrived about 20 minutes after the park opened. Dad went straight to Expedition: Everest to get us fastpasses for later and the rest of us starting strolling towards Kilimanjaro Safaris! Dad caught back up to us before we reached the entrance and we all hopped in line. The line was getting long; we probably waited 35-40 minutes. Not too bad, but I wouldn’t have wanted to wait that long in the middle of the afternoon when it was even hotter!! Here are some pictures from our safari:

After our trip through Africa, we split up for a little bit. I might have forgotten to mention, Thing2 had a bad cough and wasn’t feeling great. Her throat was bothering her she said. Dad decided to take her to First Aid to get cough drops. Meanwhile, Thing3, Mom and I took the train to Rafiki’s Planet Watch.

We had a mission: get Thing3’s picture taken with her favorite princess, Pocahontas! Here’s a picture of us on the train: Dad and Thing2 were on the train right after ours, so we just waited for them. When we got into the main building, Mom took Thing3 into the bathroom to put on her Pocahontas costume while I got in the rather long line. I’m not quite sure what Thing2 and Dad were doing…Thing3 was so excited to meet Pocahontas! Here are the pictures we took with her:

After that, we walked around and looked at the exhibits. They were doing a check-up on a bird; I believe it was a pelican. And then Mom decided that we should get in line to meet Rafiki.

It was nearing our lunch ADR, so we decided to take the train back to the main part of the park. Dad, the girls and I went to check in at Yak and Yeti while Mom went to get 2 fastpasses for Dinosaur and 3 for Kali River Rapids. We got called while she was gone, but you have to have your whole party there to be seated, so we waited. Mom loves Yak and Yeti! It was her must-do for this trip! Mom, Dad and Thing2 got a steak and shrimp plate, which they all enjoyed. I think Thing3 got orange chicken…I didn’t write anything down, so I’m not sure. However, I very vividly remember what I got! Fried rice! Fried rice wasn’t an option on the menu, but I asked anyway. I was expecting a little plate with a scoop of rice on it. What I got was a serving bowl full of rice! Bad DIS-er, no picture! I ate all I could eat, shared with my sisters, and still had enough for dinner that night! It was a LOT of rice! For dessert, I know I got the pineapple wontons! Delicious! I’m honestly surprised that Yak and Yeti isn’t more popular! It’s a fabulous restaurant! After our yummy lunch, we went over and took some pictures of the Tree of Life.

That only took a few minutes and soon we were on our way to meet the Yeti! Dad, Thing2 and I went first, followed by Mom, Thing2 and I. While we were riding, Thing3 played in the gift shop.

When we were done chasing the Yeti, we went and saw Thing3’s dinosaur pal again. She had a blast playing on “her” dinosaur!

Mom was going to use one of the fastpasses for Dinosaur, since she hadn’t been yet. Thing2 didn’t want to go again, so it was Dad or I. I let Dad go with Mom, since Dinosaur isn’t one of my absolute favorites. I sat on the ledge while Thing2 and Thing3 played. When Mom and Dad came back, we headed towards Kali River Rapids. The whole walk there, Thing2 and I were trying to convince Thing3 to come with us. We knew she would like it, but she’s not particularly fond of water. Her first time at the ocean: she fell in and got swept a couple feet out. We went to a botanical garden place with a stepping stone path across a pond…she fell into the pond. Needless to say, she’s a little bit afraid of water. Somehow we convinced her to go! Mom and Dad handed me the fastpasses and sent us on our merry way! Thing3 got stopped to be measured part way. This is when we had a weird incident. Thing3 is teeny tiny for her age. She’s 41 inches, 34 pounds and 6 ½ years old. I knew she was tall enough, so I wasn’t worried. Sure enough, she passed the height requirement. The CM standing there started talking to us though. She asked how old Thing3 was. She answered 6 and a half. The CM proceeded to tell her (in all seriousness) that she was “huge for a six year old”. Thing2 and I got really confused, but just smiled and kept walking. Thing3’s reaction to the ride? She loved it, but was surprised she got wet!

You can tell by the pictures, she isn’t unhappy about that, just surprised. After Kali River Rapids, we decided to head to Hollywood Studios to meet up with Uncle R, Aunt C and K. I’ll stop there for today. But speaking of K, I’ll be with my cousins in less than 24 hours! They should be here for dinner, so Dad is going to make lime chicken tostadas! Can you tell I’m a bit excited?? It’s possible I might update Friday, because some of the girls are going shopping and I said I could stay with the ones that didn’t want to, but it will probably be Sunday before I update again!

Have fun with your cousins! Good luck to your Dad!

Thank you for understanding! We will have tons of fun! My dad asked my only male cousin (in his 20s) if he wanted to come too, but he declined his invite to the girl's weekend!

The "Judge Me By My Size" shirt would be perfect for Skye! She's so petite! We went to Navy Pier once and rode the surrey bikes. It was really fun until one of my pedals broke off! We all have a couple of AG dolls. I have Kit, Kailey and one of the Today dolls. Thing2 has Kaya and Kailey and Thing3 has Rebecca and Josephina. Thing2 and I never play with ours, but Thing3 still does. They are expensive to get if you aren't really into that kind of stuff. It might be good Skye likes her chicken better than AG dolls: certainly saves you money!

I think your melt down was justified...would it be alright for me at 40+ to have one if someone messes with my park plans! :rotfl2:

I think you'd be completely justified to meltdown if someone messed with your park plans!

Great updates keep em coming!:cool1::woohoo::wizard::goodvibes

Thank you so much! I will! :thumbsup2
