12/30/2011 8 Night Magic New Year's Eve Celebration!

If I recall, ST. Thomas has better shopping than ST. Maarten.

As for the shopping they will have a shopping guide on the cruise and that person will have a time where we can go to one of the theaters to get coupons for shopping and find out which of the ports has the best deals.

There are some great sightseeing and beach tours in both St Marteen and St Thomas.
For St Marteen we always book one of the excursions that include some beach time with snorkeling because my husband likes to snorkel. For St Thomas our favorite is The Screaming Eagle jet boat which you have to book early because it sells out quickly. Then we get tickets for tram sky ride to the top of St Thomas where there is a small cafe and souvenir shops. These we schedule and book before sailing when our booking window opens. These also allow time for shopping in both ports. Usually the best time to shop is early in the morning then take your goodies back to the ship and change to meet your shore excursion. At St Thomas we take dry clothes to change into because you get really wet on the jet boat and that way you are prepared for the day of shopping. St Thomas is a tendered port so it is better not to go back and forth to the ship if you can help it. Just pack a day bag. The shopping presentation will fill you in with the rest.:dance3::santa::cheer2:

I'm just super excited for this trip!!! I can't wait to get back on the Magic and smell the ocean air!!! :cheer2::cheer2::dancer::donald::ccat::mickeybar:tigger::mickeyjum

Hello Everyone
I am glad to hear of all who want to participate in fish extenders. As it gets closer I will be glad to be the person who makes up the main list of who is participating and in what stateroom etc. Then I will list it as a PM to everyone. I thought I would do this at the beginning of November shall we say the second Sunday of November for posting. That means everyone needs to get their information to me before then and then I can make up a table showing all the information we need to know. This is what someone did for ours when I participated and it made it so much easier for the purchasing of gifts or making etc. because we knew how many boys and girls and how many male and female adults in each stateroom. We also organized two times for Dis meets for those who wanted to meet up on board. If you would like to do that we could arrange something. It was fun to meet some of the people we had been chatting with for months before we sailed. Some like to be surprised. Either way we do need some organization to know what and how many to buy for as my husband thought I brought way too much the first time. I just love to give. About the type of gifts some people make homemade crafty things. Others buy small items such as key chains, magnets and small items from their home towns. Most people try to give something that can be easily packed and is flat because when you start adding up how many you want to give it becomes a lot. I hopes this helps with the information. Welcome to the college instructor I look forward to meeting you. I just started my semester but I am counting down already because I can to go on the Magic for NYE. Welcome to everyone else as well it is always fascinating to hear what each of you do and how many of our lives intertwine.
See you soon, In the meantime let's talk excursions.... Who is going shopping? I want to buy an Ipad. Anyone know the place to go for a good deal?:yay::santa::dance3::cheer2:

Please include MickeyMagic (Sue) and DD19 (Alysha) in the FE exchange. Thanks so much for volunteering to organize this!

In the meantime let's talk excursions.... Who is going shopping? ::santa::dance3::cheer2:

We signed up for the following excursions:
St. Maarten - Golden Eagle Catamaran (morning). We have done this before and always had a good time!
Tortola - Tour to Virgin Gorda (morning). Looking forward to seeing "The Baths"
St. Thomas - St. John Trunk Bay Beach and Snorkel Tour (morning). We've gone to Magen's Bay a few times and like it, but thought we would do something different. We went to St. John a long time ago and it was beautiful and great snorkelling, so thought we would give it a try again.

Would love to have other DISers on those excursions. Let us know if you sign up for any of the same ones.

The excursions we booked take up the morning, which leaves time in the afternoon for shopping. DD19 loves to shop, especially in open air/straw markets.

I'm also looking at morning excursions so then I could shop in the afternoon if I choose to.

In St. Marteen I think we are going to do the Butterly Farm and Island tour. My DD's are 12 and 7 and they would love that
In St. Thomas it is either going to be the St.John's Island Tour or something else.. I can't remember the name right now.. Something to do with fish and coral reef. :lmao:
In Tortola we are doing an island tour that takes you to Sky World. I have been reading reviews of Sky World and I have a friend who has a house in Tortola and he says Sky World is AMAZING!!!

Our last cruise was exciting but we were so new to DCL that we were busy all the time, I needed a vacation after my vacation :rotfl: This time it is going to be all about taking in the sights and enjoying our time!! ;)

We are going to to a tour of Tortola because we have never been there, but St. Marteen and St. Thomas, I am planning to do some scuba diving. Yes I am bringing my own gear. In May when we went to Alaska, not only did I bring my gear, but my dry suit as well:cool1: You had to be there, but when I boarded the ship in my dry suit and someone asked where I was, everyone on line turned and looked at me. But as a Dive Master, I wanted to experience something extreme. :thumbsup2. If anyone is intrested in going, I am always looking for a dive buddy.

In Tortola we are doing one of the island tours I think it goes to Pussers landing. St.Thomas we are on our own love the shopping there we may do the sky tram again loved the views the first time. St.Marteen we are going to Orient bay I think for the afternoon.

Add us to the FE list all adults. My mom and brother grip about it but they love come back to the cabin and finding little surprises as much as I do.

Melissa

I am keeping a tally of all our chatter about this. This is great. Soon I will gather the information of how many people in each stateroom and what stateroom by sending you each a PM. I also love hearing the excursion talk. We had so much saved on our list frankly I have to go back and look again. Our booking time is next weekend so we will be letting you know for sure which ones we have secured. I believe St Thomas is usually the best shopping port also. We have never been to Tortola so we are going to want to take it all in. 106 days till we set sail.:santa::banana::dance3::cheer2:

Trip Advisor and a few other places are saying Sky World isn't that great and is a rip off...

I seen those reviews, but I trust my friend who has been their many times. I have seen his pictures and it looks amazing. I will try it.. I just want to do tours that are easy and no rush rush all the time. I'm just excited to be going on this trip!! :cool1:

Hi Everyone:
I thought our booking time was next weekend and and found out it was today. We just finished checking in online and booking all our excursions. The Sky Tram must have something going on because there are no reservations available and we are Gold Castaway members so as far as I know we are among the first to be able to book. Does anyone else know anything? I didn't think it was a rip off some thought it was a bit pricey but when you consider the spectacular view and the prices of most things I thought it was comparable to most tram ride costs. Anyway we have booked The Virgin Island Sail Snorkel and Beach Adventure for Tortola; The Doubleloon Turtle Cove Sail and Snorkel for St Thomas; and the Seahorse Catamaran Snorkel for Castaway Cay for hubby Mark. He loves to snorkel and I said I would try it this trip. I love to swim and love the water and beach I am just not much up for the mask and nose apparatus and water coming into my nostrils and mouth. So we will see. I have a feeling I will be swimming in my new hot pink and black wet suit more than I will be snorkeling but hubby will be happy that his dear wife is with him as he enjoys all the pretty fishes. HA HA! I convinced him to do the last snorkeling trip without me while I just relax and soak up the sun on our last day. Our excursions are all booked early in the morning and end at noon so plenty of time for shopping at each port if I find some good deals. St Marteen we left open as our sightseeing day because we have been there enough we know the island pretty well so thought we would throw caution to the wind and decide when we arrive what we will do. See you all in 104 days!:santa::dance3::banana::cheer2:

Hmmm...has anyone been to this neck of the woods at the time of year we are going? I'm worried it might be cool because it's January. I was thinking about booking the 12-meter regatta in ST. Maarten, but I don't want to be cold (I could stay home and be chilly:confused:)

As far as other excursions, I may wait until the very last minute onboard. I've done ST. Thomas several times, and hubby will be diving, leaving me solo. I may just stay onboard & watch movies all day-what a treat! :happytv:

Or shop. Anyone need a shopping buddy? :goodvibes

Tortola we may do the trip to Virgin Gorda to see the baths.

Saw the Lion King 3D today! Loved it all over again! We had a preview for the Muppet Movie, which opens at Thanksgiving, so we should have that onboard.

No Sky Tram...:sad2: That was one of the things I was seriously thinking of doing.. Oh Well.. We start booking on October 1st and I getting excited... I've been going over all the excursions, picking one that will be enjoyable for both myself and my daughters but will still allow us to not be rushed...I do know that I'm not booking anything for Castaway Cay.. Just going to enjoy the day and explore the island. I never made it over to Serenity Bay when we were there last time. Also they day we are at Castaway is my youngest DD's 8th birthday so it is just going to be a fun day!! Maybe she will want to be with all the kids in camp.. Who knows..

Out of curiosity, how many rooms so far are participating in Fish Extenders?

Hi

We will be on this cruise as well, me, DH, 2DS (13 and 16), my parents. We are new to this board but not to Disney or DCL.

I have been doing a lot of looking around online and it looks like there will be 7 other ships in port when we are in St.Thomas, they are predicting 24000 passengers. Which is probably why there is a problem with the Sky Tram.

I don't know how accurate the information is I found it at Cruisett, unfortunately I can post the link (since this is my first post.)

I was reading your post so I decided to have a look at the site you were talking about. Wow... That's a lot of people in port!!! I posted the link above!!!

Hi

We are a family of 5 on this cruise also. Our kids are older. I usually don't post much on the boards or cruise meets, but I do read them. I thought I would share some info with you....

Regarding St Thomas--I found a site that says we will be tendering that day. With the large number of ships, I'm glad I booked an all day excursion to St John. http://www.vinow.com/general_usvi/cruiseship/ship_schedule.php

Also, I just wanted to share info on an excursion we booked in Tortola. I found the info on cruise critic. The company and excursion are highly recommended. If you are beach/snorkel people, you may like it. http://tortolacharters.com/excursions/jost-van-****-tours/
http://tortolacharters.com/reservations/
They are picking us up at the pier at 9am, and bringing us back at 3:30. The ship is there till 5:30. It's half the price of Disneys excursion there, and longer.

Thanks for the information... This will help me in planning our day trip at St. Thomas.. I have been thinking about taking the excursion to St. Johns that day. All those people on shore that day scares the crap out of me..
Either way, I can't wait to see all our port stops!!! :goodvibes

I hope they are wrong about us tendering into St.Thomas planned on doing that day on our own and last time it was really easy because we docked it was nice to hop on and off the ship as needed. How does tendering work if you do not have an excursion planned do you have to wait on all excursions to get off first or what?

Melissa

95 DAYS TILL WE SET SAIL!!!!!!!! :cool1: Is anyone else excited about it or is it just me???

I get to book excrursions in 5 days as well!!!!

Oh do we have an idea so far on Fish Extender's, how many people are participating so far?? I'm a huge planner and am curious if we has a idea..
