It's a 6 hour drive, maybe a little more. We try to get as far as we can the night before (after work/school) and then get up early with the adrenaline pounding us and the disney tunes blaring and drive the rest of the way (trying hard not to speed at this point).

I just noticed your list is in room order. I'm going to save that list so that i can just walk from room to room and drop the cards off.

again, thanks

I just went around my house in search of the "over the door shoe holders" and noticed that they are all in current use - do I dump that junk out and pack them or buy new ones :confused3 ...? In other words, I am off to Target today!

Room order doesn't quite work, though, does it? Because of some rooms being on the port side and some on the starboard side?

Target really is the perfect store.

We are trying to solve the two-way radio problem with limited success. They are never too useful in our hands despite the potential promise of the concept. When we cruise, it seems like impossible to find a channel that the rest of the ship is not using. So, this time I bought one that has over 2000 possible channels and a 10 mile radius (Costco is a great store, too). I just gave one to DD who is on her way to a friend's house that is less than 2 miles away. It stopped working before she got there.

We must be doing something wrong  .

We have tried using the radios at amusement parks and such and they just don't seem to work well with all the people using them and on the ship the structure itself will cause interference and block signals. I have a dry erase message board I am going to hang in the room and DD will have to leave us notes saying where she has gone. I doubt DH will, but it is mostly for DD to let us know where she has gone.

That's a great tip. Thanks! Our children probably would be too busy to remember to leave us a note- but they would also probably be too busy to respond to the walkie talkie even if it works...

DS says that when he wants us he will get on the elevator and, stopping at each floor, yell for us. Yeah, that'll work.

walkie talkies work everywhere except for Studio Sea and the Walt Disney theatre and the Buena vista theatre. I believe they either Jam them or just have no reception. Make sure you set the walkie to a really unique channel.

Good morning! I am packing today, too. I know I put away DD's adorable door decorations from 2004 but of course I can't find it. She was 6 then- more little girl than she is now. I'll keep looking.

The first night of Hanukah is the 15th, and we will be driving. Last cruise we did not leave our house until 10 pm and got to the hotel just past Jacksonville at 2 am and I do NOT want to repeat that painfulness.

For some reason, preparing for the disney cruise makes me more nervous than other vacations... I can't figure that out.

-Sarah

Hi everyone, reading the posts from the day...

are you staying in Jacksonville again? We are this time and expect to get in very late at night. Then we'll drive from Jacksonville to port on Saturday.

I have brought our walkie talkies each time and they have worked on the ship...cant say about WDW.....but thanks for the heads up cause forgot to put on my list..I would have never packed them....

Also thanks about the White board also...would have forgot to pack that also!!!!!! My list just keeps growing...Jeeesh before we know it........

We leave next Monday for WDW.....

I guess I better figure that out. We generally stay at a Hampton Inn just because there are a lot of them on 95 and they are predictably clean with a decent free breakfast. I pick one around Jacksonville and make a reservation in advance.

Where do you stay?

-Sarah

PS. I just booked the Hampton Inn St Augustine I95 - it is at exit 318 (instead of 340's where Jacksonville is) so we will be a little bit closer for that exciting Saturday morning drive :Pinkbounc :moped:

If you feel like driving that far, it would be fun to meet there!

Hi--we're staying in Jacksonville, at a Residence Inn...same thinking, decent hotel, free breakfast...we can get a bit bigger room there (good with five of us), and we are using DH's Marriott points. It would have been fun to meet, but I'm pretty sure we'll get in pretty late...don't think I'll be able to take high schooler out early, so he won't be home until after 4:00. We live on the North side of Atlanta, so our biggest problem will be heading South in Friday evening rush hour. Then we'll have another five hours or so of driving...By the time we stop and eat, etc. :sad2:

But it will be SO worth it!

BTW, I love St. Augustine...I think we're going to try to spend a night or two there when we travel back down to Florida for Spring break...have you ever spent time in the old part of town?

We spent a few hours there a couple of years ago on our way back from a Disney Cruise. My husband and older son (George) are very interested in history. I'll never forget when we pulled into St Augustine and they were talking about it being the first settlement and I said something about Plymouth Rock being first (dumb me) and George said "Mom, that was New England! This is New Spain - it's MUCH older!" Who ever heard of New Spain?

I am afraid I will regret making a reservation in St Augustine because although I'd like to get out on the early side (eg 4 pm) I am sure that my husband won't be able to and we will again be leaving at 10 and then have so much further to go. Maybe if he knows we have further to go, he will be more likely to be ready early :confused3 ! Probably not. I may be cancelling those reservations.

for some reason every pair we've ever brought doesn't work in any of the studios or theatres....i think they jam them so people don't use them

We will bring the radios. They don't take a lot of space and if they don't work, or we are too lazy to use them, oh well.

DD8 is sitting next to me practicing drawing Mickey for our door sign.
