BTW, sorry to be soooo slow.

kimerinc said:Dr. Hug,
I am continually amazed by the number and strength of drugs they give children. DD takes Zyrtec for allergies, but that's it. I am pretty sure it is a combination of genetics, anxiety over a new situation, fear of being fat because that would single her out and she is very shy. She just wants to blend into the wall. And probably several other issues combined. I think this is more a problem we should work out one by one in discussion. I can't imagine there would be a drug that would solve this problem at it's core. She has a very good pediatrician and until he says she is malnourished, which she is not, she eats just fine when she is really hungry at home, we are going to go with the talking it out route.
This is not to say that there are not children who need special help. We have a friend who's child is schizophrenic and they have been working with him his entire life. I know he has special problems that only medication can help. I am sure there are many other situations like this that require medication, I just don't think mine is one of them yet.

The only thing I've been diagnosed with by him is anxiety/panic disorder, so why would he think I'd need an anti-psychotic?! Scary! But yes, he really is a quack! I'm surprised he hasn't had his license taken away, I'm always expecting to see him on the news or something for all the weird meds he prescribes people.

DrHug said:It can be used for all kinds of Psych disorders, but I think that it is unwarranted in a lot of situations. Especially when they try to use it in Children. That really does get me angry.
