I have some good news! I went to shopko today and all of their duct tape was wrapped in non smelly plastic wrap! So I got to pick up all the choices without gagging! I now have new duct tape. One more thing off my list...

I am glad she stopped the Zyprexa. It is an okay drug for Psychotic patients, but Sheesh, using it for everyone???? What a QUACK! ('scuse me).

BTW, sorry to be soooo slow.

Wow, with it being an anti-psychotic it's kind of scary that he's pushing it on people. The only thing I've been diagnosed with by him is anxiety/panic disorder, so why would he think I'd need an anti-psychotic?! Scary! But yes, he really is a quack! I'm surprised he hasn't had his license taken away, I'm always expecting to see him on the news or something for all the weird meds he prescribes people.

Dr. Hug,

I am continually amazed by the number and strength of drugs they give children. DD takes Zyrtec for allergies, but that's it. I am pretty sure it is a combination of genetics, anxiety over a new situation, fear of being fat because that would single her out and she is very shy. She just wants to blend into the wall. And probably several other issues combined. I think this is more a problem we should work out one by one in discussion. I can't imagine there would be a drug that would solve this problem at it's core. She has a very good pediatrician and until he says she is malnourished, which she is not, she eats just fine when she is really hungry at home, we are going to go with the talking it out route.

This is not to say that there are not children who need special help. We have a friend who's child is schizophrenic and they have been working with him his entire life. I know he has special problems that only medication can help. I am sure there are many other situations like this that require medication, I just don't think mine is one of them yet.

Hmmmm. I wonder if it will still work for warts. I was thinking of recommending it to the Witch Queen from Snow White. :)

Speaking of drug overdose. Today it took 4 excedrine migrane and an imitrex to get rid of my migrane. I hate those! Why won't they just go away!

I feel the same way. When DD starting having her problems antidepressants were mentioned but I said NO WAY!!! I would not put a 10 year old on antidepressants for anxiety. It's just too young.

Kim, you mention that she wants to "blend into the wall"... maybe she does have social anxiety? That is one reason that I still have difficulty eating in social situations and I have been like this since I was a very young child also. But as long as she's eating at home and growing normally you don't need to be concerned for her health.

It scares me how fast doctors want to medicate. :sad2:

This lack of DSL is sure teaching me patience.

I agree. It appears to be a shyness thing, although I am far removed from the situation. I was painfully shy when I was in 3rd grade and through my teen years. I remember a girl telling me I had a little mouth in the cafeteria, and I would not eat in front of some of the kids after that. Kids can be cruel sometimes, and maybe she was teased about something at school. I also know that many little girls, 7 to 10 y/o, don't seem to have big appetites. My daughters included. But they grew out of it. Our grand-daughter eats like a bird sometimes, and she is "skinny", but is very healthy. Our neice used to fight with her Mom because she wouldn't eat. She is fine. DW's DSS was always fighting with her and it became a control thing. She was almost a little over weight. We told her mom not to worry about it. Just don't let her drink "junk", like soda/pop/coke :) . Flintstones vitamins are actually good.

It can be used for all kinds of Psych disorders, but I think that it is unwarranted in a lot of situations. Especially when they try to use it in Children. That really does get me angry.

Ooooh!! I used to have BAD migraines. I really feel sorry for you. They are sooo bad. I used to have to just ride them out. Some of the new drugs are great for that. It is too bad they can't really find the cause in most cases. I quit having them when I started taking a beta blocker for my Blood Pressure.

Bless your heart,
Dennis

Dr. Hug,

While we are on the drug subject. DH takes ambien to sleep and has that eating thing. One time I found him asleep on the floor with powdered sugar all over his mouth and the dog licking it. DH does not eat normally, so this is VERY odd behavior. How is the newest sleeping drug? I can't remember the name but it is not the one that gives you the funny taste in your mouth that one did not work at all...

I really don't like meds being pushed on kids. With my DD I refused to put her on anti-depressants for her anxiety disorder, I believe it can be controlled without them, if she feels differently when she's an adult then fine, but for right now I believe she's too young for such serious medication.
