Night Marielle, I will be heading to bed now too.

Oh my, Becka is going to be so disappointed that we did not hit 12000 tonight!

I guess we have identified the talkers in the group! :chat: :chat: :chat:

Caroline, I will always lean to the Canon family. I really like the colour quality.
Another vote for Canon here! I've been looking for a digital for DD also. A Canon she will not receive. In Target I saw the Fisher Price one. She used to have the regular film one and that thing was rugged so I was glad it came out until I saw the price. 79.99 - I don't think so. Especially given these kid touch specs

Pretty neat camera! DD 3 would love it for her birthday. The two-eye viewing is neat, but doesn't look adjustable. Price :scared1: I got other DD a cheap one for about $20.

We used to take DS out of school for vacations like this. We thought it was worth it. He turned out alright! :thumbsup2

We did this every year with DS from about 3rd grade on . . .

Graduated fourth in his class, qualified for a 6 year BS/MD program with our regional medical school (second year of BS part right now), so he did OK. I know a lot depends on the child, but family time is just too important to us, and he learned an awful lot that he would not get in the classroom on our family vacations!

John

Still catching up, but you guys were easy on me last night.

Oh no, they are very responsible outdoors people with lots of experience, but sometimes my family can be well a little intense. Dad is a PhD in Math, Uncle PhD in Physics, both ex miltary. Uncle works for the government, but he can't tell us what he does. Last trip they decided to figure out how much rain it would take to raise the ocean an Inch. DH said he almost committed Hary Cary. They are really nice giving people, just intense...

Kim

Now THAT sounds like an interesting group - right up my alley!

All the talk about cameras and I missed it!

I agree with almost everything everyone said. I too like Canon cameras. One of my first digitals was a Nikon - never again. Did not like the camera - too much fumbling around to use it. Sophia now uses it as 'her" camera. BTW - amazing what a 6 year old can do with a digital camera - and no wasted film!

I took a lot of photography in college, and my camera then (and still my best film camera) is my Canon A1. I do like the digital Elph we have now for a compact digital camera (5mp) and I just LOVE my digital Rebel XT. It is an awesome camera! One of the best parts - no need to change type of media - all my cameras use CF cards, and I have probably about 6gb of media laying around.

As to the mgapixel issue - 8 is enough for me until those prices come down more! With the 8, you can blow up to just about poster size!

There is one thing I do disagree with Consumer Reports on . . . They always advocate getting a camera that will take AA bateries for easy replacement - I can't tell you how much I spent on batteries on that Nikon, and the recahrgeables just don't have enough ooomph! These Canons with the rechargeable power packs are great! Hundreds of shots on one charge, and I bought an extra battery that I keep charged and with me just in case.

Well, I've got work to do today before the game tonight. Better get to it.

DS and I went to the fireworks show last night in Downtown Canton. Hey Lisa, the Marine band was here playing from Cherry Point NC!

Have a great day everyone!

I'll check back if I get a chance.

John

Oh, one more thing about cameras . . .

One of the best things about the Rebel XT is that the lag between shots is almost totally eliminated - I always HATED that on the small cameras. You miss a great shot while the camera processes the image. Not so on the XT - it has a great buffer, and you can shoot many frames per second until that buffer gets filled up. More than enough for most people!

Enjoy the game, John. I'm anxious to see football again, but ... ughh. Two teams I dislike tonight.

Thanks for any more thoughts on the Rebel XT (Brack, too!). Before kids I spent a lot of time on photography; now it's a lot of point and shoot and I miss having some interesting options. DH would also like to have a better one to use in the OR from time to time. He has tricky requirements with wanting macro-type shots but he still has to keep the camera far away enough from the actual surgery so as to not contaminate anything.

Party was good. Feel very sorry for my niece because her MIL is a maniac! This is the niece who is staying up here while her DH is in Iraq. Her MIL is driving her nuts and when you involve a b-day party it can get ugly.
:sad2: Had one of those while DH was in VietNam. We did learn to tolerate each other after about 8 years though and after another 8 or so even got along. ;)

Hi everyone. :wave2:

Sorry if this has been covered before.

But I'm interested in finding out alternate transportation from MCO to the Port for those of us that are staying at a PC hotel.

Specifically, looking for some limo company suggestions.

TIA. :)
We have used both Fl Tours and Happy Limo. Both were punctual and did a good job.

Oh Angie, she is trying so hard to be a good DIL! She is only 21 and has had quite a rough life. She doesn't even talk with her own mother much! The biggest problem is the guilt trips her MIL lays on her. My niece is here for at least 8 months. Luckily my parents have a little apartment that she can stay at. Well, while she is here she is trying to LIVE here, not look at it as a visit. KWIM? Her MIL keeps saying that my niece's family will see the baby more than her, yada, yada, yada. She even invaded my poor niece right after the baby was born for a week trying to tell her what she is doing wrong instead of just helping. :sad2:

Anyone know if there is an audio book for my sony camera manual?

Kim

LOL I got my mom one of those simple cameras for her b-day this year. It is like the manual is in a foreign language! Our Tech school is having a class on them this fall. Maybe I should take it.

Is anyone else thinking of doing the Eco Tour on CC? I will be one of those in the "back of the pack" I am sure, so if anyone else out there would be too, we should go together so we don't look so bad. :rotfl:
