11 year old and kids menu?

For the first time we will be visiting the world with an 11 year old? Although she is considered a Disney adult I know she will want to order off the kids menu like her sister. I realize that for buffets she will have to to pay the adult price. We are not on the dining plan, but plan on a few sit down meals. Will she be able to order off the kids menu or will they give her a hard time? Thanks.

At sit down meals, since you aren't on the DDP, you shouldn't have any problems.

Yes she can order off the kids menu, my 12.5 year old niece had no problem doing that, the problem was she didnt like any of the food

She can also adapt the adult menu. For instance my dd would order the steak, no sauce, with fries instead of...

At any counter service restaurants you can order off the children's menu with no problems. My family has done this if one of us wasn't extremely hungry - the kid's meals are actually quite a good deal, since you get a small entree, 2 sides, and a drink! The cast members at the sit down restaurants usually never question a child's age as long as long as they are near 9 years old. Have a wonderful trip!!

Anyway, I wanted to do the dining plan, but I knew she wouldn't eat any of the food. She would rather eat chicken strips and fries at almost every meal! I ended up picking places that have buffets so she can pick and choose, and eat off her brother and sisters plates! It is hard to have your child being considered an adult!!

I agree it is hard that they are considered adults. My daughter is 10 and we are going in June. I have been back and forth as to whether to add the dining plan because we've done dining for most of our trips. I just know she would rather order off the childs menu instead of an adult menu so with the exception of buffets/family style I just don't know that it would be worth her doing the dining plan. I really wish they would come up with something in between or that they would move the adult age up a few years.

I agree if they only want kids meals why do we have to pay adult prices, there should be some kind of junior rate.

With the dining plan, can a 12yo order off of the kids menu? We already paid the adult price, technically, with the plan. Disney will make more money that way if we eat less. Or can she just adapt her meal like was previously mentioned?

Yes they will give your child the kids meal but they will charge you a credit for it (and in your case it will be an adult credit). If you want you can pay out of pocket for their meal but, then you might have leftover credits that you may not be able to use.

I am not sure how the DDP will work regarding credits, etc. but if you are paying cash the restaurants won't blink an eye at allowing her to select her meal off of the kid's menu and pay accordingly; as far as buffets, let your server know that your DD will be eating from the child's portion and they should charge you the child's rate. When we went last year, we were with my DN15 and he is autistic (granted an entirely different situation) - He really isn't a fan of any of the "adult" type foods, so he was eating from the child's menu/buffet all the time. It was killing my DSIL because she was paying many times $15-$20 more each meal than she should have been. Eventually my wife started kindly asking our server for the accommodation and we never had an issue. Basically- I would say it can't hurt to ask; I'm sure you won't be the first!!
