107°F here in a few days

More people die from cold weather 20 times more than hot. Do you actually have stats of thousands of people dying?

I read these stories every summer from publications/news organizations that I trust. The NY post isn't a source that I would cite as a "go-to" for anything science related....that "publication" comes with a huge dose of bias.

Name one news source that isn’t biased. It’s just doesn’t fit your “we’re all going to die from global warming” narrative so therefore it’s fake news. If you really wanted to research cold vs heat related deaths there’s plenty of info out there .

We will, but you are failing to understand that we are British, and complaining about the weather, whatever the weather, is a national pastime. This is obviously a British ‘complain about the weather’ thread, so either moan about the weather or 🤫.😉
I will keep that in mind when I’m in London next week. I doubt they’ll be anything to complain about. I’m going to enjoy your cool weather. Cheers.

Oh for sure...most media has bias embedded...so you just have to keep that in mind when reading. The NY Post is a bit more than biased, it's a "rag"....for example, I'd head over there to catch up on Ben and Jen's big Vegas Wedding....but climate science, not so much.

What about the CDC data. https://www.washingtonpost.com/news...l-more-americans-than-hot-ones-cdc-data-show/ I could post article after article about this morbid topic. The fact of the matter is this and...... I'll be nice and say this "climate science agenda" and the energy crisis it's causing is going to kill more people than ever over the next few years.

Our state is not allowed to shut off people's power in the Summer, but it doesn't get them out of paying their bills down the road. I feel for the people that have to heat their homes this winter. I'll take my 110 Summers and my 400-dollar AC bill and be thankful.

OP, is today the hottest day? Hope you're able to stay cool. I read an airport had to close because of a runway melting. I remember being miserable as a kid when we would stay with relatives that had no AC in the summer, and it definitely wasn't as hot as what you're experiencing.

You are missing the point. Complaining and commenting about the weather is just what we do. The weather is never ‘just right’ for us. Next week greet people by saying, How do you do. A little warm/wet/chilly etc today, isn’t it? 😂 Enjoy your visit. The tube can be a bit smelly in this heat, particularly if you are stuck under somebody’s armpits. Be prepared.

How does a runway melt? Runways don’t melt in the US.

How does a runway melt? Runways don’t melt in the US.
LONDON – It was so hot in the United Kingdom on Monday that the runway at the country’s largest air force base "melted," according to a report.

Sky News reported that flights were halted at Royal Air Force Base Brize Norton in Oxfordshire because the "runway had melted." The report came as temperatures soared to 95 degrees at the base Monday afternoon.

A tweet from the Ministry of Defence Press Office said that aircraft are using alternative airfields as part of a "long-established plan" to deal with extreme temperatures.

According to ASI, a company in the UK that sells products to maintain asphalt surfaces, the air base uses an asphalt runway. Binders in asphalt are known to liquefy during extreme heat, as was the case in Texas during a heat wave in late June.

Officials at London's Luton Airport said in a tweet that they are working to repair a defect in the runway resulting from the high temperatures. Operations have been paused in the meantime.

Planes take off and land ever few minutes in Phoenix even with temps nearing 120. Most of the US has temps over 95 degrees in the Summer without melting runways. I find this story hard to believe.

Infrastructure in Europe (not talking about southern European countries like Italy and Spain) is not built to withstand the high temperatures and humidity like in the US. These high temperatures are an abnormality.

The Phoenix international airport runways are concrete, not asphalt. Different materials have different characteristics. The US has had issues with asphalt highways in the heat as well.

So asphalt melts in Europe? What do they make it out of chocolate?

Our roads our asphalt and they don’t melt.

CROCKETT, Texas (KTRE) - Texas Department of Transportation is asking drivers to find alternate routes in Crockett due to melting asphalt.
According to a social media post by TxDOT Lufkin, asphalt can be found melting on the road due to excessive heat from State Loop 304 from State Highway 21 East to the concrete pavement at State Highway 7 East. Crews are pouring lime water on the roads in an attempt to mitigate the damage.
Drivers are asked to find alternate routes and expect delays.

Roads softened during my two trips I described of extreme heat to Europe and the UK.

When the temperature rarely reaches these temperatures, the construction techniques don't account for the extreme temps.

The Texas electrical generation system collapsed when it got cold. A cold that MI, WI, SD, ND, MT, ME, and many other US states experience on a regular basis, a cold that does not cause issues with electrical generation in those states.

This is a very similar situation.

I wish I was in London this week to witness this melting road phenomenon. I guess AZ just knows how to make a road. Texas has no excuse.

Based on my driving experience in AZ, AZ does NOT know how to make a road.

The drive from Las Vegas to Grand Canyon to Flagstaff to Antelope Canyon to Phoenix were some of the worst roads I have ever experienced. 30-40 mile long potholes, not a road 30 to 40 miles long with potholes, but 30 to 40 mile stretches of one long continuous pothole.

Horrendous.

Edited to add:
Asphalt is most likely to "melt" in extreme heat before it has fully cured. It takes 12-18 months to cure. Perhaps AZ's success is tied to the fact that roads are rarely paved. Their back to the dirt road campaign I experienced is working great!
