Whenever I have the opportunity to go to disney, even on a budget, I go. I am a DVC member, too, and have spent less than $120 for food for 5 nights before, without even trying. My daughter is currently working at Disney World, and she eats at Earl of Sandwich all the time. When I go visit her, we always eat there at least once. She and I usually split a sald($5.95) and a sandwich($5.75), and we both usually drink water anyway. If I treat one of her friends to a sandwich and soda, we still spend less than $20. I once overheard a British couple placing their order for a tomato soup and a grilled cheese sandwich. Apparently, the grilled cheese is a child's sandwich, so it was only $4. The Earl is definitely Disney's best food value. Everyone I've ever taken there has loved it! I ordered the child's quesadilla at the counter service in Mexico for my neice, and my own 15-year-old wanted one after that. When we eat there, I usually order a few different things, and we all share. You could easily eat here for less than $20, as long as you don't order a margarita
. My husband and I used to share the shwarma platter at Tangerine Cafe, but my daughter is not a fan. She does like Cosmic Ray's, where we share the 1/2 rotisserie chicken with green beans. I sometimes add the child's salad with chicken, and we either drink water or order a child's small soda. We have shared a chicken wrap and salad(without the chicken is less than $5) at Pecos Bill's before for very little money. My youngest daughter usually does not eat hot dogs, but she loves the footlong hotdog and french fry combo they sell at a cart on the Boardwalk. I think it is @$8, and she and I share it, then head over to the bakery for a dessert. I think you will be able to eat for $100.
We usually drive down, but once my husband and I and 2 youngest children had an opportunity to go for a long weekend, as long as we kept the trip cost to a minimum because we flew down(on SWA). I was worried because I had never been without a car. We stayed in a 1-bedroom at OKW, and I packed bagels, oatmeal packs, peanut butter, a small bottle of mustard,12 bottled waters and 12 20-oz. Cokes in our luggage(my kids did not even know they were in their suitcases). I made sure I bagged everything in case of spills, but everything was fine when we arrived. My husband laughed at me, but he sure enjoyed the bottled water and soda that did not cost $2 each! Had we run out of soda, I read on this board that the Hess station is a good place to buy drinks and snacks, and you can take a bus to downtown Disney to get to it.I packed snacks and fruit(apples and bananas) in my carry-on. At the general store at OKW, we purchased ham and bread for sandwiches, eggs, cheese, and milk. We made one dining reservation('Ohana), and ate counter service the rest of the time. I saved a lot of money by packing a few things in my luggage, but I would not do that if I had to pay a fee for extra baggage. Luckily, we can do laundry while at Disney, and less clothes means more room for other things! I hope you have a great birthday trip!
