10 years, Peter? Another five and you qualify for parole :rotfl2:

Tracy,
you can have the bed - if you re-re-book to Cruisetoberfest :teeth:

Constant rain here for the last two days and more to come. At least it still is warm (Upper 60ies).

I got Tiffany's info, so there is another update due tonight. Any requests for changes should be submitted not later than 1pm EST.

Hi Everyone--- We got back late last night. I fell down the steps the Friday night before we were flying out and really twisted my ankle. So at 4am I am at Wal Mart before we leave to go to the airport to buy some sort of ankle compession support since my ankle was becoming swollen. Good thing I did that or I don't think I could have walked around WDW. The RICE (Rest, Ice, Compression and Elevate) program was out as I am not going to be sitting with my leg up while at WDW. Each day got better and it certainly takes your mind off the sciatic pain when your ankle is throbbing. Not a great start to vacation.

We loved Magical Expression and I am going to book it for our Dec trip. We also liked SSR which surprised both Norm and I. We had a great location nearly the main pool and near the bus stop, plus our room had a waterview and our balcony was one of the more enclosed ones. The studio is nice for 2 people since it has the sofa. However, if I was taking my family we would go to OKW as the accomdations at SSR are smaller than OKW. The food court is terrible, but Turf club has an expanded menu and is being changed into a sit down restaurant. I can see where the location you are staying at would have an impact on how you feel about this resort. The bus stop is very far from some locations and you can really be far from the main pool. If we stay there again I would ask to be in the same location we were at this time.

The weather was great in the 80's during the day and mid 60's at night with no humidty. I guess Wilma blew the humidty out of the area. We had rain one day from mid afternoon on, but we were still able to see Chubby Checker that night. Also saw the Miracles revue without Smokey. We really enjoyed the Wine and Food Festival. We took advantage of the wine seminars and beer tasting. What a difference in the groups that attend those sessions. I would be carding a lot of people at the beer tasting but the wine seminar you could be checking for everyone's medicare card. Had dinner at California Grill so we could see the Halloween Wishes fireworks. The food was very good but the atompshere in the restaurant is not great. It is very noisey and I was surprised that the bar/lounge is not seperated from the main dining area. I don't know how you folks that had the Meal Plan could eat all those meals, we had one big meal each day and I was full for the rest of day. I need to get back into my normal eating patterns and get back to the gym. The clothes are getting tight.

We went to the DVC members review and they announced that the member cruise on 10/22/06 is making 2 stops at CC. Since we are doing the double dip on our cruise we have decided to pass on the members cruise. We like CC but stopping 4 times in 11 days, I can really do without. So we will just do WDW post cruise.

Well need to start to work on laudry. The downside of having a studio is no washer/dryer in the room.

Nancy

Glad you had a great trip Nancy (no pun intended). Sorry about your ankle though. Nice to hear that you liked Magical Express as we're using it in December and we aren't renting a car.

Really dreary looking here and with the time change it's dark at 5:30pm.

Tonight Jim will have to wear a tie as we are going to a fancy dress fundraiser. One of the firm's clients is on the planning board for this fundraiser so representation from the firm is required. Three of us from the firm are going so the firm bought 6 tickets at $300 each. It's an ok meal but the tables are packed together in the ballroom so it's uncomfortable. The silent auction is interesting although I'm not bidding on a $30,000 watch or box tickets to the leafs or raptors! It's sometimes an interesting evening but I'm glad it's only once a year and held 5 minutes from home.

Eric - how's your FIL doing?

Off to get ready for work.

Fiona

Anja's father is already better. He still can't get into his car, because he can't bend over, but he already started doing 1hour walks around the town they live in and even took the bus to get to physical therapy. We expect him to be able to enjoy the festivities for his 65th BD on 12/04.
We'll fly up to Hamburg then, rent a car, and then drive up the final 65miles to Kiel. It's far cheaper than flying to Kiel - and we have a car at our disposal that way. We'll fly up there on Saturday morning and return Sunday night after the party.

List #26 is in your mailboxes - check it out.

to a fancy dress fundraiser.

We seemed to have missed a couple of important facts.

1) I don't want to go. The fact that I'm going at all indicates a massive amount of whine is being created which will last at least six months.

2) I'm actually not certain where the tie colony is any more, so this should be interesting, expecially when I've spent like 45 minutes looking for it. I'm ready to give up.

3) I put a lot of effort in to getting dressed up. You'll be able to spot me right away in the crowd. I'll be the one wearing the black suit amongst all of the tuxedos. And, you should be able to see the white socks sticking out (only if I remember to keep pulling up the pants up). And the red band in my ponytail will be a nice touch also.

4) I'll be eating with three lawyers. Now that's special.

5) They have a live dance band while we're eating. That's special also. It eliminates any possibility of me hearing anything, except the wine steward who will be asking "More wine?"... I can hear that o.k.

6) The meal is one of those "Nouveau Cuisine" meals... you know, the kind you pay $90 for and are still hungry after you've eaten? This year, we'll be dining at McDs before we get there. Last year they started serving at 10:00 p.m. Right after all of the fancy-schmancy rolls and flavoured butters were gone (see #4). I'm taking a baggie so I can put the second Kids Meal in... shouldn't be too difficult to hide.

7) Last year, the local firefighters were selling cheesecake calendars and personally autographing them for everyone. The ladies went nutso over them. We didn't get one (see #4). This year, I'm expecting the local Hooters contingent to show and then the men can go nutso over them. I wasn't overly partial to the firefigher guys for some reason, but I'm sure the Hooters people would catch my attention.

Well, I've got like five minutes before we're supposed to leave... I've got to press my pants and find a clean pair of socks. And I suppose I should wear underware also, seeing that it's getting colder out these days. I can't tell you how much I'm looking forward to this. (See #4).

Jim.

Jim--- I just love your posts, they always make me LOL. Gosh it sounds like such a wonderful time, I can't understand why you aren't excited to go.

Fiona and Jim-- I'm sure you will be pleased with Magical Express. It was the first time we did not have a rental car at WDW and I didn't miss it at all. Now if only Mickey could magically bring home my luggage, so the laundry and put everything away than it truely would be Magical.

Eric---So glad that your FIL is doing better.

Kim and Bette--- Your house looks wonderful. I'm sure you are glad that it is finally completed. Kim how is your leg doing?

Happy Anniversay Peter and Jen.

Laura--Sorry to read that you were flamed on another thread. I don't do alot of posting on other threads. But have seen how brutal some people can be on some of these threads. Just to bad you had to experience that yourself.

Jeanne--- Thanks for linking our reservations. Nice picture of Jen and Ethan. Is that before or after she asked for the autograph on the picture you gave her to get signed? Did you ever figure out who was in that picture?

I guess I will have to break down and cook a meal tonight. Went to grocery store to restock since there was no food at all in the house.

Nancy

We received an offer for our next vacation in March '06 (I don't count the week over xmas at the in-laws' house as a real vacation ;) )
It's a flight to Bangkok, three nights/four days in a four star hotel in Bangkok with a sumptuous breakfast buffet. Then another flight to the island of P.h.u.k.e.t., eleven nights/twelve days in another four star hotel with a great breakfast buffet as well. Return flight via Bangkok. All transfers with chaffeured limos. All this for €3,460/$4,100 for the two of us. It's considerably more expensive than it was this year, but still OK.
We will most probably book it next week.

Well, I'm sitting here already to go.

Despite the fact that The Shrink Fairy has bammed my suit pants and my Extra Special White Funeral Shirt. Now I look Rumpled, instead of Generally Rumpled.

Fortunately, I didn't misplace my formal wear (like someone else I know but won't mention her name). Nor did I loose the ability to find my makeup case (like someone else I know).

It's taken so long to get ready, I think we're gonna miss McDs. First feed bag is in 35 minutes apparently. I was ready 35 minutes ago, just so-you-know.

I'm going to go down to the front door and stand there and sigh and shake my car keys. That'll get some action I bet.

Still looking forward to a good time.

Jim.

HAPPY SATURDAY EVERYONE!!!!

Well, it's official, i have started Christmas shopping. I now have the black garbage bag in the back of the closet with stuff in it! Honestly, I can't wait for the kids to know about Santa. This hiding stuff is hard! I thought Colton would have figured it out by now, but I guess not!

We are starting the Boy Scouts Food Drive this morning. Have to pass out bags this weekend and pick them up next weekend. Then tomorrow, Colton's den is going to set up camp, cook over a fire and break camp...all in the leaders backyard.

thanks for the suggestion of Sweet Tomato..I think we might go there even if not for Thanksgiving. It just sounds so refreshing! I also think Chevy's sounds good!! I'll have that on my list as well.

Jim, I hope last night wasn't too horrible for you. (see #4) :teeth: I can't wait to read your report of the evening! You certainly have a way to make us all smile!

Eric, your trip sounds wonderful!

Well, off to get ready for the day! I hope you all enjoy this Saturday! :cheer2: The weather here has been warm, so maybe cleaning out the garage is in order! Oh, and the grass needs mowed, and the patio furniture put up....it never ends does it?

Well, all things considered, the evening was just 'Brutally Boring' instead of "A Crushingly Boring, Tedious and Generally Yukky Pain in The You-know-where."

We left late, (through no fault of my own) so we missed going to McDs. However, when we arrived, the Pasta/Antipasto table was in full swing, so we scrummed the line and walked away with a decent plate full.

Sometimes it helps to look a bit differently than anyone else (and I'm finding I'm being a lot more aggressive as I get older) because a lot of people give way to you. :)

But picture this first.

I'm sitting at a round table with 10 people sitting at it.

There are:

4 Lawyers.
1 Banker.
1 Elementary School Teacher.
1 High School Teacher.
2 Spouses that talked fashion the whole time.
1 Me.

I had two lawyers directly to the right and one directly to the left. The teachers were sitting on the other side of the table, so any possibility of any Intelligent Conversation whatsoever with them was minimal. The fashion ladies weren't interested in anyone else. The Banker was, well, a banker...

The conversation level noise was pretty high and the dance band was playing. I couldn't hear anything, but I found if I kept nodding and smiling every now and then it seemed to satisfy a bulk of the conversation that I think was aimed towards me. (Of course, I really don't know whether or not I'd bought a lot of swamp land in Belize or agreed to become a priest so I'll have to wait that one out.)

That left me with only two reasonable options: 1) Eat. and, 2) Drink wine.

The food wasn't that good, so I compensated by drinking the wine. And I ate the buns. Without butter. I dropped the pasta off my fork and missed The Tie entirely, so my opinion of Ties has dropped substantially again.

Considering that the tickets were $300/throw, I was extremely disappointed in the meal. A small chicken leg, a piece of meat about the size of a soda can bottom, four pieces of asparagus and six teeny, tiny potato balls. Something else was put on the plate, but it smelled funny and I wouldn't eat it.

The firefighters were there again, but I was extremely disappointed that the Hooters contingent didn't show. They must have been double booked or something, but it was a shame. I did, however, spend some time watching a lady at another table who'd obviously had implants and a face lift, and then I spent some time trying to figure out who was wearing a hair piece or had hair implants... I saw a lot of ladies who were basically 'skin-and-bones'.

We left at 10:20, just in enough time to get to the local Tim Horton's Coffee Shop drive-thru just before closing.

It could have been worse. Like last year for example.

I'm owed Big Time for this.

Jim.

Jim -- Thanks for the information regarding preparing for, and then, attending the big event. The food could have been a bit better for $300 -- did you at least get a salad with your meal? It is always so much fun reading your posts. You have a bit of a Bob Newhart touch to your tales (back in the days when he was young), and that is a definite compliment. Altho, you may be too young to remember him when he did standup comedy. Very droll, if that is the right word.

We're having a great TV-show running right now:
In Germany we have a tradition of big shows broadcast live on Saturday nights. Tonight it's 'Wanna Bet?', the flagship of German TV. This show sports average people who bet that they can do something special. Additionally it has the widest range of guest stars imagineable. Tonight they have: Madonna, Shakira, and Carlos Santana play their newest songs live. Cameron Diaz and Diane Krüger promote their newest films and bet on the candidates. Additionally there's lots of German celebreties. The show takes about 2.5 hours and is aired without any interruptions by commercials.
Right now they have a guy who bets that he can lure any herd of cattle into coming to him by blowing his horn :rotfl2: Cameron Diaz has to bet wether he can do that or not.

Jim,
I love your reports too :wave2:

That was close: Three more posts on other threads and we have dropped off page 1 :earseek:

Eric, we got the "list". Thanks so much for your hard work on it. Your trip sounds great. It will be interesting to see the changes in the area since the tidal wave.
Jim, LOVE your posts!

Ok - I have to admit that Jim's description is in fact fairly accurate. It is a boring evening although the live auction was somewhat interesting. Of course we don't have $8500 to bid on a week in some resort villa thing in Jamaica -- you did get your own chef, maid and butler though. We also didn't have $5500 to bid on hockey tickets, $6500 to bid on a trip to New York to see the Letterman show, $7500 (I think) for two nights in Paris .... One of the silent auction items was a wheelchair (this discloses somewhat the age of some of the crowd) but Jim wouldn't let me see how much it was going for -- it was valued at $800.

No salad for the meal. It was the appetizer scrum -- which had a full pig on it complete with nose -- that certainly increases the appetite. The shrimp was good as was the bruschetta but I don't recall any salad.

The meal was two types of pasta, one small stuffed chicken breast, one small piece of rubbery tenderloin, aparagus (which I don't like) and small roast potatoes. Dessert was two crepes wrapped around ice cream - one vanilla and one chocolate. There was an open bar but really $300/ticket doesn't buy you much these days. :rotfl:

Although hooter girls weren't in attendance the firefighters were with their calendar -- although this year I wasn't allowed to get it autographed! There were go-go dancers as the theme was the 70's.

Now to wait for next year's gala. Although before that we have my client's Christmas Party -- another exciting evening where Jim gets to sit with 3 lawyers. :goodvibes

It's pouring rain here at the moment so it's a good thing we raked the leaves yesterday.

Have a great Sunday everyone.

Fiona

Happy Sunday everyone!

Jim and Fiona, sounds like an evening to DIE for! :rotfl: I love to read all of your posts!

Eric, thanks for maintaining The List. Your trip sounds wonderful too! I wish we got such offers here in the States, but we don't!

This morning Daisy woke me up at 6, our usual time, and I said, "Don't you realize it's Sunday, we can sleep in." Her bladder was telling her otherwise, so up I got. I took her in the yard and it was SO nice out. With a warm southernly breeze, it was darn right balmy! If it hadn't been 6 am, I might have just plopped myself on the porch swing and sat a spell. However, the bed was calling my name, so back we went. Surprisingly, Daisy even went back to sleep and didn't make a peep until Connor woke up at 9! Hopefully, these are all signs of a good day ahead!

Enjoy the rest of the weekend! :grouphug:
