1 Year to SAVE!!!

Well, yesterday was grocery day. Our weekly grocery budget is $100. I took the $100 in cash with the goal to come under and put the remainder into our mickey jar...DRUMROLL........

I only spent $70!!!!! :cool1: So here is where I stand after this week:

Goal: $1000
Savings this week: $40.50
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Left to save: $959.50
I have listed a few items on craigslist. *fingers crossed*- if they all three sell, I will have an additional $90 to put into the mickey jar...
Awesome!!! My son went to a birthday party/sleepover last night. I sent a $20 with him for "just in case". I told him to spend wisely because whatever is left is going towards Disney. He said, "Wouldn't it be cool if I didn't spend anything?" LOL We'll see what he returns with this afternoon!!
I need to get somethings posted for sale, myself. Do not believe I will need this sit'n'stand stroller anymore! We bought it in perfect condition for only $60 on craigslist only to use at Disney this summer and that's exactly what we did. We took 5 kids to Disney this summer, ages 3,4,7,9,&11! That thing was a life saver!!! Buying it was cheaper than renting and this way we should get most if not all of our money back for it!! WOOHOO!!!
I did this for my trip back in March. Just a sample of what I did:
sold things on Ebay - Halloween costumes, etc 70.00
rebates 17.00
online surveys 97.47
change jar 42.00
so you can see that was over $200 painlessly! Plus I used some survey points to get GCs to RFC at AK.
I have another trip planned for June 2012 and need to make $2500 so I am ON BOARD!
Can you share your survey spots? I've tried and tried and either end up with scam sites or end up getting to the to the end of the survey and it says I don't qualify or there are no more surveys - after doing the survey? So confusing... :confused:
I haven't read all the responses, but we just put $20 cash every week in a box and mark it off. That amounts to over $1000 a year. This is our third year using this system and it works GREAT!:cool1:
Added today: $21.00
Can I join you all?
I'm hoping to take my girls on a Cruise/WDW trip in December 2012. My oldest will be starting college next fall and my youngest will be in 7th grade. We've been to WDW many times as a family, then in 2003 dh decided he was done with it :scared1: So in 2005 the girls & I started taking girls trips! We have come to love love love this time together. Taking trips every year from 2005-2009 ( a few 2x in a year ). THen the recession hits...dh loses his job, after being a sahm for 15 years I start looking...we were lucky, it took 6 weeks for dh to find a job and only 8 for me. So Feb 2011 I took the girls back. Because of dd's schedule I thought the best time would be Dec 2012, a 4 night Dream cruise, & 4 nights at WDW. So I need a lot of $$$$$$$ - I'm planning on getting the cruise paid off first, then I can plan from there.
So I'm starting tomorrow! I'll keep you posted!
Sure! I do Opinion Outpost, Viewpoint Forum - both of those pay cash. I also do Swagbucks and MyPoints for gift cards. Oh and MySurvey for gift cards also.
MySurvey is the one where I get my gift cards mainly. But say I buy a $10 amazon gift card using points, I take the $10 I would have normally spent and put it in the Disney savings jar!
Earlier this year (for my March trip) I got over $70 from Opinion Outpost, almost $30 from Viewpoint and I got a $25 Rainforest Cafe gift card that we used for breakfast from MyPoints. I am kinda new to Swagbucks but looking forward to seeing what I can get from them also.
Definitely doable!
  • All change from cash purchases go in a jar; right before our trip, I'll take it to coinstair and cash it in.
  • Sell unwanted things on craigslist (things that will sell there - I've already sold Halloween costumes from the past few years and made about $50 doing that)
  • Have a yard/garage sale! (I did one before our last trip and made $300!)
  • Any cash bonuses my husband gets (anywhere from $20-100 weekly), I put in the savings
  • My kids are saving all their allowance/birthday $/ etc for anything they want to buy on the trip. I will convert this to a Visa gift card before we go, probably
    • I take my kids outgrown clothes to the resale shop. Whatever I get goes in our fund. Whatever clothes they don't accept, I put in the garage sale.
I'm off & running too!:cool1:
I knew I had some money left on one of my disney gift cards from our Feb '11 trip...I thought it was something like $2 - nope it's $42!!! :banana:
Cleaned out every drawer & closet in the kitchen & office today. Think I found some stuff that will sell pretty good on ebay - maybe $200? I have my Canon EOS Rebel2000 with the lens that I'm going to sell. It still works perfectly - I just got a new Nikon last year. I also have a Disney wallpaper boarder that I bought 6 rolls of thinking I'd use it in my scrap room...I didn't. I have about 10 things to sell, just have to get them photographed & listed.
Planning on having a yard sale next spring..so I have all winter to go thru & collect :)
I am so psyched:woohoo:
Viewpoint Forum says they are only taking new members through refer a friend. Is this something you can get me "hooked up" with?
Yes, I am so excited about my craigslist stuff selling, I have never done anything like that at all! I have a feeling saving will slow down a bit now. My main thing I am doing to save is to come under the grocery budget each week. DH gets a bonus this week, but that is our Christmas money. Anyhoo, we just keep plugging away at the savings....
just keep saving, just keep saving (to the tune of "just keep swimming")
:cheer2::cheer2::cheer2::cheer2:
I find I do pretty good with Sunshine Rewards..I'm almost at my 4th $100 Disney GC. I put all the money from my little part time job in the trip box..and by little I mean I only make about $100 a month, but still..adds up! And if I have extra envelope money at the end of a pay period that goes in there too. I also budget money for my trip savings account which pays for the big stuff..train tickets, etc. I have an auto withdrawal from my checking (the afroementioned evil Wells Fargo) that goes into a special ING account that is my holding account for APs, DVC dues and just starting to put car insurance $ there too so when these things come due I pay what I can with CC..for the cash back..then just transfer the amount into into EWF (evil Wells Fargo) and BillPay the CC. For our cruise nextnyear I set up payment to go on CC (giving me $2.50 cash back a month) then on payday I pay the CC just like a regular bill. Each time I hit $100 in CC cash I cash out, then put that money in the trip box too. I also save all change and that goes into the trip fund..so many little tricks but all together we get to take some great vacations in a not so painful way.
I have just been rejected by like 20 different surveys on Sunshine Rewards. How do you earn your GC's on there??? :confused3
