1 Summer, 2 Coasts, 3 Kids...Ready, Set, Go!

Well. Hmm. These notes are helpful for future DLR trips I suppose, I really need to do research when the time comes for hotel then!? I figured they'd all be super nice with Disney so popular right there. And omg, the homeless person bus stop... wow. Yea, I imagine that Disney bubble def popped, huh?

BUT you were at DLR making memories and having fun with your kids, so I am sure the overall trip was fantastic, right?? I can't wait to see the photos!! Bummer on loosing one, I lost several last trip and didn't know they had a way of tracking them down until long after we'd ordered our CD...

Can't wait to hear more, glad you are home safe and sound!

We did have a fantastic time and got to do almost everything we wanted even with the insane crowds. Yes. Definitely research the hotels. I only stayed where I stayed, because that is where the group was staying. I usually stay at the Park Vue Inn which is right across the street, but it isn't a "Good neighbor" hotel.

Day 1 continued:

It is about 9:15 AM. We had been in the park a little over an hour and had ridden Indiana Jones twice and the kids had gone on a Jungle Cruise. Jacob and Marissa went off to get fast passes for Space Mountain, while Chelsea and I went to Matterhorn. On the way, we spotted Marissa's favorite, Peter Pan. While we were there in April, she could never get a picture. Peter Pan at Disneyland doesn't have a set place to meet. He runs around and plays tricks on people. So, when he stops you get in the quick line. Chelsea didn't want to get in line, but I told her that it would make Marissa really upset if she got to meet Peter without Marissa. So, she jumped in line. She had met Peter and got his autograph and it was 9:20. The line for Matterhorn was already fairly long, so we went to the Single Rider line. I was more nervous to do this than Chelsea was. She got to ride first and I was loaded 2 cars later. She loves this ride. It is a bit too bumpy and jerky for me. We then met up with Jacob and Marissa. The fast passes were for 10:15 AM. What to do? Star Tours of course. We got in line about 9:43 and it took about 20 minutes. We get the same scenario everytime we ride, so it was sort of a let down, but Chelsea loves that ride. We looked around in the shop a bit and it was time for me and Marissa to ride Space Mountain. We got through the line in about 15 minutes. The woman behind us screamed the entire time. Marissa was not thrilled. I wish I had the photo to put in here. It said it was shipped today. We then went to find Chelsea and Jacob. They were still in the store. We tried to convince Chelsea to ride, but she wouldn't. Jacob and I went and got in line. We had just given our FP tickets to the CM, when I got a text from Marissa saying Chelsea changed her mind and wanted to ride. Too late. We rode. I like Disneyland Space Mountain better. Anyway, Marissa and Chelsea rode Buzz Lightyear. It broke down once, so they were still in line when we were done. We got another set of fast passes for Space Mountain so Chelsea could ride. Our fast passes weren't valid until later, so we decided it must be lunch time. We headed across the park, taking some photopass pictures on the way. We were headed to Critter Country to the Hungry Bear Restaurant. I had the Turkey & Provolone Sandwich, which was very good. Both Marissa and Chelsea had the Classic Cheeseburger. Jacob went daring and had the Big Al's Chicken Salad. It has smoked chicken on top of romaine and iceberg lettuce with watermelon, candied pecans, dried cherries, pickled red onions, and honey-lime vinigrette. He obviously didn't read the full description because he was surprised to see watermelon on the salad, but he loved it. Waters for everyone. We stayed upstairs. The seating is all outdoors, so we found a shaded spot. It really was a good meal.

The character meet and greets are a bit more different at Disneyland. You seem to have to do more chasing around. Marissa was bummed because she saw Peter while she was standing in line for Buzz...so he was in Tomorrowland and he was stealing hats from people and running around, sticking out his tongue. Alice and Mad Hatter were the hardest to get. Actually, Cruella was the hardest since we saw her and couldn't get her to stop to even take a picture. But that was totally in character for her.

I cannot believe I missed a part. As we were leaving from getting fast passes, we decided to see the preview of Guardians of the Galaxy, since it was right there at the Captain EO theater. Oh my! We had never seen Captain EO, so we really had no clue what this theater could do. So, the preview was great with wind blowing and the floor shaking. Sort of a let down to see it in a regular theater later. It was really good. Jacob had not wanted to waste precious Disney time on a preview, but he even thought it was worth it in the end.

Now, after lunch we decided to try to find restrooms. We walked out of Hungry Bear and turned right toward Splash mountain and Winnie the Pooh ride. We saw Tigger and Winne the Pooh posing for pictures, but we didn't want to wait. Finally, we went back to Hungry Bear and asked the CM where the nearest restroom was. She said downstairs.... Silly me.

After the restroom break, it was getting close to when we could get another fp, so we decided we would fp Thunder Mountain, but we had some time to kill before we could. As we were walking around I saw a line that seemed out of place, so upon investigation, we saw that Tiana was out. So, we jumped in line. Our first time meeting Tiana.

Then we headed to Haunted Mansion and rode. Finally, we could grab the Big Thunder Mountain FP. We then headed to Fantasy Land and rode Pinocchio. It had the shortest wait, but we still waited about 25 minutes. Marissa thinks it is cool to ride on something that so many people have ridden on for so many years. It was ok and out of the sun. We took a spin on the Carousel. Then headed to the Mad Tea Cups. Jacob and Chelsea rode in one cup and Marissa and I rode in another cup. Still one of my favorite rides. Then Jacob and Chelsea wanted to ride Matterhorn, single rider of course, so off they went and Marissa and I sat down for a few minutes. Then we saw Alice and Mad Hatter. You could talk to them and take pictures as long as you kept walking with them. So, I had to get proficient in taking pictures while walking backwards and hoping that I didn't land in a planter somewhere. Mad Hatter left us with a "It was a pleasure meeting me." Jacob and Chelsea got to ride together afterall, so where done pretty quick, so Chelsea tried to jump in with Alice and Mad Hatter. Another girl jumped in at the same time, so we have pictures with Chelsea and mystery girl in all of Chelsea's pictures. But, that means Chelsea is in some other random family's pictures too. We rounded a corner and there was Peter Pan...standing still. Marissa jumped in line. She finally got her time with Peter and convinced him to take a selfie with her. It turned out cute. I am hoping to load my camera and phone photos to my home computer tonight. After meet and greet, it was time to hustle to Space Mountain. We had 10 minutes left in our window. We made it and was out of there in 20 minutes. Chelsea decided she loved it. She hated Space Mountain at WDW last year, but loved this. So, we talked her into riding Big Thunder Mountain. I usually have to do the rides twice, once with Jacob and once with Marissa. So, it was time to do the Big Thunder Mountain with our FPs. This is where a girl asked about our bags. The mom asked if I had made them and I told her someone else had made them that I couldn't sew. The girl asked that her mom make her one of the bags. I was told many times that D~ should have an etsy store. After the first couple times explaining about the FB thing and how it works, I would just comment that a friend made them. Didn't take as much time. It didn't take us long to get to the front of the line. Chelsea was a bit nervous, but this ride just doesn't have any scary drops. So, she loved it. We had yet to make it to Toontown, so off we headed. It was crowded! We got fastpasses for Roger Rabbits spin and then decided it was a snack break, so we headed for the train to go back to...


New Orleans Square. It was Mickey head beignet time at the Mint Julep Bar. We ordered the 6 pack and 3 pack. We each got 2 and Jacob and Marissa rock/paper/scissored for the last. Marissa won and scarfed down the last one. Chelsea tried the Mint Julep and loved it. I had a sip and thought it was pretty good too. The rest of us had large sweet teas. Not as sweet as McDonalds or as we call it, "Hummingbird sweet", but it was a nice break. The train station was packed so we walked back to Toontown to ride Roger Rabbit. It was a first for us and we liked it. We decided we were done with Disneyland for the day and headed to the train to Main Street. Where were we headed? Back to the hotel? To Downtown Disney? Nope, we weren't done with the parks. We walked the 2 minutes to the turnstiles of California Adventure. Although, it never was an easy walk. Marissa was stopped maybe 20 times by people asking her to take their picture. I told her dressing like a photopass photographer was not a good thing! Nope, she didn't look like a photopass photographer, but maybe with her red hair she stood out. So, we seemed to always be stopped right inside the gates of Disneyland or in the space between Disneyland and California Adventure.

I have to get some work done and catch up on some other PTRs. I promise to finish up Day 1 soon.

I am counting up everything and we did do a lot. It is about 4:30 pm when we leave DL. Jacob loved his salad. In fact, I was sort of wishing he didn't like it, so I could have it.

As I left off, we had gotten off the train at Main Street and headed to California Adventure. Jacob and Marissa wanted to ride Tower of Terror, so off they went. It wasn't 6 like I thought, but more around 4:30, becasue I remember more what we did. Chelsea and I decided to do Goofy's Flight School (think Primeval Whirl, but not as much spinning). Chelsea loved it. We then went on the Jumping Jelly Fish (kid ride). I acted scared of heights for Chelsea and she loved calming me down. So cute. Marissa had sent me a picture of Flik. Oh, I wanted to see him so badly, because I have a Serendipi D~ bag with Flik. Oh well, hopefully later. We walk through Bug's Land to get to Tower of Terror and Jacob and Marissa were just coming out of the store. Great timing. The parade was just beginning (starts at Tower of Terror) so we were kind of stuck. The Aladdin Theater is right across the street. They weren't quite lining up, but we were told we could wait. The show started at 6:15 and we were in line by 5:25. We really didn't have anything else to do, so we waited. It was the last show of the evening, so I really wanted to do this. The kids watched the parade. Finally, the parade crowd was dispersed and they let us decide which section we wanted to sit. I wanted middle or Mezzanine (sp?). There were some guys that had cut in front of me and they headed there, but then turned right at the queue and I knew they lined up left, so we were at the very front of the rope. We waited and finally were let in. We got the very front row of the middle section looking down over the orchestra below. That way, we could have a good view of Aladdin and Jasmine on the flying carpet and see the elephant that Aladdin rides down below. The genie is what makes the show, but he wasn't as good as in April, but still a great show. This is a must do!

We are pretty starved after the show, so we head to Carsland to eat at Flo's V8 diner. Indoor seating is enough reason to eat here. Plus, it is well themed. They were having a rib special, so Jacob ordered that. Marissa ordered the turkey plate and went to save a table. (She always did this. She got out of carrying the trays and always picked the furthest tables. You would think she would pick up the condiments and utensils...but you would be wrong. ) Chelsea had the turkey without gravy and two sides of mashed potatoes. I had the pork loin with the coca-cola bbq sauce. The kids all had milkshakes, so this ended up being one of our most expensive meals coming in at just below $70. The mashed potatoes had the skins in, so Chelsea refused to eat them. She ate about 1/4 of the turkey but she did finish the milk shake. Jacob devoured his ribs. I loved my pork and Marissa was quickly licking her plate. So, good food. It was dark when we left and they had turned on the neon lights. We took a couple of photopass pictures and headed to the Racers. The lines were long. We all did single rider and it still took us 35 minutes. Chelsea and I got in one car, Chelsea in front row, me in the back. The couple up front with Chelsea were so kind. They wanted to split up so she could ride with me, but we said we had done single rider and knew we wouldn't be riding together. They talked to her the entire time. Jacob and Marissa were in the next car and we ended up racing each other. Our car won! Jacob wasn't too pleased. This is such a cute ride. I love everything about it, except the wait.

Chelsea had really been wanting to do Mater's Tractor spin ride. Marissa wasn't too thrilled, but there was a short wait and we were soon on. Definitely a fun ride! We all loved it. By that time it was after 9:30 and I was tired. So, we left the park. I was surprised to see the area between Disneyland and California Adventure filled with people sitting, until the first firework exploded. So, if you don't have park hoppers or you want to have a quick getaway, watch fireworks from here. We waited and waited for the bus. We finally got on and it was very crowded. We had the first stop (homeless person was sleeping on bench, so we knew it was ours). We could barely get off due to people not wanting to move from where they were standing so we could get off. Finally, the bus driver told them to move. We all got ready for bed, I took some quick notes, so I would remember what we did that day then we were all fast asleep.

Back from our trip and slowly catching up.

Your talk of the homeless person on the bench brings me back to Vegas a few short days ago. I thought Chicago had homeless people. I was flabbergasted by the amount of them in Las Vegas.

I think most cities and towns have homeless people. We have many here where we live, so it wasn't that shocking to see some, but it is much different than WDW, because once on property, you have such a disconnect with the real world. At Disneyland, you only get that disconnect once inside the park. The walkway to Disneyland is filled with guests and CMs trying to get to work. We would play the where do they work game as we were on our way.

We did get lots of rides in. Not as many as we did in April (with lower crowds). I only rode Screamin' once. The kids only rode Tower of Terror twice. We only rode Thunder Mountain and Splash once. So, we must have slowed down some.

Well, last night I was going to post some photos from my phone from Day 1. However, it took over an hour to upload them from phone to photobucket. By then, it was well past my bedtime. I am at work where I don't have access to photobucket (it is banned), so I will try to post then. So, I was thinking I wouldn't move on to Day 2 yet.

WDW planning and other stuff:
I get to make our BOG lunch FP tomorrow. That should be when Sept 4th opens up. I will check today of course, but I have been checking each day this week and every day it gets one day closer to when I want it.

I went to Kohl's last night. I found another pair of shorts and two shirts. I didn't want all of my pictures from WDW last year, Disneyland and WDW this year to have the same exact clothes in them. I also bought a gazillion socks. I plan on taking Chelsea to Justice and JCPenney this week (although JCPenney hasn't had anything she would wear the last couple of years) for school clothes and any summer sales.

Marissa finally has her ticket to Texas. Her Dad and Stepmom bought the ticket, so her flight leaves at 5:30AM. I wonder who is taking her? She has a layover in San Fran and then arrives in San Antonio on the 20th and comes home on the 27th. We leave on the 30th. Not a lot of time for her to unpack and pack, but oh well. She really hopes to go to Fiesta Texas and Schlitterbaun (New Brunsfels one). She doesn't care what else she does, she just wants to do these, because that is what Jacob got to do on his trip last year. Her grandpa is already telling her he might have to work the entire time. Why ask her out, if you aren't going to be available? His wife will probably think she wants to go shopping. She would, but she would rather the Six Flags and water park. She isn't really impressed with the River walk. Jacob did have to go to the Alamo and see some other missions, so Marissa may have to do that. Oh, and she will want Chik-fil-a. We don't have those here.

The magic bands said they shipped and should be here the 13th. That won't give me much time to customize them, but I don't really know what I want to do. I will probably just paint them with nail polish. I do not have a creative bone in my body, unless we are talking about creating spreadsheets.

I am really torn about next year. The rumor is that the BB offer is for free dining beginning August 20th. We are missing the first 3 days of school this year, but next year Chelsea will be starting middle school and I don't want her to miss all the orientation days and stuff. However, Labor Day is later next year, so I could fit a trip in. However, I really should be saving for another car for myself or at least a car for Marissa (once she learns to drive). I can always book it and then if it isn't feasible I can cancel right? Plus, the kids really want to see Diagon Alley at Universal. I know deep down that I should take a year off...or two...or three. It is so hard though; once that Disney bug gets you.

I have a meeting at 8:30, so I should finish reading others PTRs. Hopefully, there will be Day 1 pictures tonight!

The bags were so great. We were almost stopped at every ride. We had one person taking pictures of us in the Mr. Toad's Wild Ride. I get to use the Frozen bag for DHS this time. Marissa claimed it for our FP for the A&E meet and greet.

She has grown. Marissa took forever getting ready this trip. She was ready for the pictures. She wants to get the hair colored again before the trip. Not sure when to fit that in with Texas and all.

I thought the selfie was super cute. The selfie I took with Flik, not as good. He has a huge head for an ant.

Which reminds me, I forgot to post that awesome picture in my "I spy" album... I will do that right now!

We really did. It was practically perfect. Which reminds me, we did see Mary Poppins and Bert dancing in front of the castle. They pull in children to have them dance too. It was super cute. Just no time to get any good shots.

I hope everything works out for your coming trip... So sad that that BB is FD - it's gonna be so hard to resist that one. But I just cannot do another trip until Alli's graduation trip . Sad.


I am really having a hard time with this myself. There is so much that I could use the money on. We don't really need the trip, but with free dining and maybe being able to finally stay at POR, I may just do the reservation while there and get a second job.

Mad Hatter had his tongue stuck out in most of the pictures and he kept saying, "Pleasure to meet me." Alice would barely talk. Marissa's time with them was pretty good, because noone else was around.

The mini Olaf bag was perfect size for Chelsea. She absolutely loved carrying her own stuff and she loved the bag. Didn't you win one of the mini bags also?

Marissa wanted to get a selfie with Captain America, but I think she got flustered and forgot about it when she went in there.

I will be moving on to Day 2. I really cannot wait for the photopass disc to get here. I will be trying to do Day 2 pictures tonight. Photobucket takes so long.

The alarm goes off too early for my taste, but I know that California Adventure starts letting people in early, like DHS (except there are internal ropes). I wake everyone up and we get moving. Breakfast doesn't begin until 6:30, and I woke everyone up about 5:45 am. With an 8 am opening, I am hoping to get there by 7:30. We got our breakfast and headed out to the ART stop. No homeless person sleeping today. The bus comes at 7:20 and it not only has to pick up route 3 (our route) but route 1 as well. We don't get to CA until 7:45 and the gates are already open. The crowd waiting at the main rope (to go to Carsland) is already pretty large, so we vear to the right and wait at the rope that goes to Soarin'. We are pretty close to the front on this one. Are we going to ride Soarin'. Ummm. No thank you. We get all the safety lecture and promptly at 8 am they let us go. I think all of 4 people may have left the group to go ride Soarin'. The rest went around and then we lost the rest of the entire group when they stopped for World of Color fast passes that are distributed at the Grizzly River Rapids ride. We keep heading and then meet up with the main crowd at Paradise Pier, the ones that didn't go to Carsland. Where are we heading? Toy Story Midway Mania of course. No fastpasses for this ride. We have about a 10 minute wait. Jacob got the high score of the family. Always a fun ride, but my arm hurts so much afterwards.

California Screamin' is next. Chelsea will not go on this ride, so she and I wait while Jacob and Marissa go on. It takes them about 15 minutes. We add their picture to the photopass card and Marissa and I get back in line while Jacob takes Chelsea on Mickey's Fun Wheel (from H E L L). The coaster is so much fun, but for some reason, I got queasy on it for the first time ever, so I didn't do a repeat of it. I rode it like 6 times (3 in a row) back in April. We get our picture added and head off to find Jacob and Chelsea. They had just gotten off. Chelsea loved this ride when she was 4...not so much this time. She hated the swinging cars. Jacob liked it only when it was swinging. When it was stopped, he realized he had a fear of heights. So, this was not a repeat. We head down the pier and Chelsea is wondering what the Silly Symphony Swings are. I tell her to go on. Jacob goes with her. Marissa and I wait down below. For some reason, they are in the buddy seat (the one that allows an adult and child to ride together). I thought this was strange. Chelsea ended up loving this. She is the one that insisted on the buddy seat because she was unsure. So, she wants to go on again. They get their own separate seats this time, but Chelsea got an inside swing. Marissa was bored and wanted to sit down. No benches around. She goes to sit on planter and I warn her to be careful. She rolls her eyes and starts to tell me that she isn't going to fall in, when her foot slips and she goes over the edge. She caught herself before landing on her behind in the planter but I was . Oh, why didn't I have the video rolling? Jacob and Chelsea finish with the swings.

Next to the swings is the Golden Zephyr. Jacob and Marissa did not want to ride, but there was no wait and Chelsea really wanted to go on it. It was fine. You "fly" out over the water, but it is a really tame ride. The breeze was nice.

We keep going and see that Little Mermaid ride has no line. Soon we are on our clamshells and being part of her world. It is a cute ride and air conditioned! It was getting hot. We went into a shop, because Jacob had decided he had to find a cup with Tinker Bell on it. Not a coffee cup, but a cup. It was a small shop and no cups. We looked at the pins and I picked out some I wanted and put them back. It was really hot, so we got in line for the Grizzly River Rapids. The standby wait was less than 10 minutes. We didn't get too wet and we wanted to ride again, but now the standby line had ballooned to 45 minutes. What happened? So, we grab fast passes and then have a little over an hour to kill. What to do?

Wilderness Explorers! We head over and get our pamplet. One of the challenges is broken and it was the zip line swing thing. Bummer. We found our animal spirits. We were hoping to get Kevin (likes chocolate), but I got wolf and the kids did it so many tmes and got different ones each time, so I lost track. Chelsea did the rock climbing and then we were off to climb the rope course to the top. Marissa tripped and bashed her face into the padded post (so no bruising, but she had a headache). I was carrying the pamplet and kind of tripped and the pamplet cut my cheek. That course is brutal. We did all of the challenges and then found out that Doug came out at 10:15 for the first meet and greet. So, we hung around for about 10 minutes and were second in line for pictures. Russell didn't show up until 11 and we weren't sticking around until then. Sorry Russell. Maybe at WDW. It was time to use our fastpasses at Grizzly River Rapids. I guess the ride had gone down, because we had to wait about 5 minutes before they started to allow people back in the fastpass line. The standby wait was over an hour. Once we were in, we were on the ride in less than 10 mintues. This ride is hands down better than Kali at Animal Kingdom. After we rode Kali, we decided we would have had more fun getting cups of water and pouring them over each other.

We weren't too wet, but we were hungry. It wasn't quite 11 yet, so nothing was open. We headed to Pacific Wharf because they had the multiple eateries, but noone could decide and I didn't want to end up waiting at four different places. I had read on here ina trip report that someone really liked Boardwalk Pasta & Pizza. We were unsure, because we had the pasta and pizza at Disneyland in April and hated it. But, I was willing to trust this review and we headed back to the Silly Symphony Swings and the restaurant. The girls both ordered the Spaghetti and Meatballs (comes with 2 giant meatballs). Chelsea had hers with no red sauce, just parmesan cheese. Jacob and I had the Chicken Sun-Dried Tomato Pasta. Oh my. I was in heaven. We all loved this. The meatballs were moist, the flavors were really good. We had it scarfed in no time.

After lunch we were going to split up, but Jacob and Marissa never left us. Guess they didn't really want to. So, we headed to Bug's Land (Jacob stopped by It's Tough To Be a Bug to get fastpasses for the Radiator Springs Racers for 8:30 pm) and I finally got to meet Flik. They didn't see my bag at first, but they finally did and they loved it. Next up, Chelsea really wanted to ride the bumper cars (or Tuck'n'Roll's Drive 'em Buggies). She wanted to drive her own car, which was fine with me. It was fun.

We were ready to head to Hollywood land. Line for Tower of Terror was too long and we couldn't get fastpasses because we had just gotten the RSR fastpasses that had been finally connected to main system right before our trip. Chelsea was curious about the Monster's Inc. ride, so we headed here. One of our longest waits for a ride. They had built a huge queue for this ride. Too bad they didn't build a fun ride. It is cute, but nothing you ever have to do again and it is in an odd part of the park. I had really wanted to see Muppet Vision 3D because I had never seen it and it was in the air conditioning. The next show was starting in 10 minutes, so we went in. Chelsea liked it, but we all decided to cancel our FP+ for this at DHS right then and there. No need to see that again. We were pretty much done with all we wanted to do there, so off we went to Disneyland.

I need to catch up on some other PTRs and I have a meeting in less than an hour, so I am going to stop here.

I finally got my BOG FP reservation!!!

Thursday of our trip right after our FP for Anna & Elsa. This was pretty much the last thing that had to be scheduled. So, only packing is left and maybe decorating the Magic Bands.
