1/3/09 Magic - First Time To St. Croix

Okay,

Since my brother, sis in law, and their 3 kids... 6, 4, and 14 months...are going on their first Disney cruise... would your advice be to go in before them ready to catch the kids faces when they announce their name as they enter the Magic???

What other suggestions do you have for newbies? I want this to be unforgetable.... and we have learned so much since our first Disney Cruise 2 years ago.... I know it will be special anyway... but I am looking for ideas to make them feel extra special!

Thanks for any ideas from those more veteran than me :worship:

If you go in early do not forget to turn on the flash. It is very bright behind the people coming in.

My sweetheart has gone off for about 5 days to visit her Mom in NC so it's JoJo and me. :surfweb:

My DS-11-decided it was a GOOD idea Monday to get on his Grandfather's stationary bike...get this...without any shoes! His foot got caught between the pedal and the foot rest. The initial x-ray showed nothing broken. But, the entire top of his foot on the left side from the toes to the ankle is swollen and Easter Egg colored. The orthopedist feels there could be some fractures hiding under the swelling and bruising that didn't show up in the initial x-ray. Sooo, my son is now in a boot for 3-4 weeks and then they'll take more x-rays and decide if they need to do anything else. There goes most of HIS summer! All I can say is that thank God this happened now and not at Christmas when we'd be 2 weeks away from the cruise!!!:

I was looking around and I found an amazing game played on the cruise ships. This game isn’t meant to be a nuisance or a bother it’s a fun way for DIS cruisers to interact.
This is the version of the game I found. The only thing I would change is the gift idea maybe we can just do the magnet and sign it when you find it on your state room door.

(remember this isn’t me this is someone else’s version of the game)

“Lessee...how do I explain tag without really confusing everyone here, including me?

Well, basically we had a list of people who agreed to play tag on the ship and we had two very nice people who helped organize it: Paul, who set up a secure Yahoo database for the cruise, and Kevin who set up the rules and really pulled the game together.

The game starts out with everyone receiving a list of players and a magnet. The idea is to start with the person / cabin listed just below your name on this list - you tag them by leaving the magnet and a little tag gift (we tried to make it easy by suggesting that people leave something indicative of their hometowns / states). Then you have to wait for someone to tag you in the same manner before going on to tag the next person on your list - you keep going until you reach your name.

It was a blast! And people were very creative - Kevin made a vacation / party mix CD for everyone, Suzie left a diabetic coma-inducing bag of sweets to take to the movies, Wayne and his family left a bag o' stuff from England including some keychains and a recipe for yorkshire pudding (Yum!).

Our tag was a grab-bag of stuff that was supposed to play off the name we'd given our cruise thread - The Molar Express. A bunch of us suffered a rash of broken teeth through the year...so I found little toothbrush / teeth eraser sets, and watermelon flavored billy-bob candy teeth and put those in a bag with some other goofy stuff.

If you can get enough people to agree to play and get it organized it adds a whole extra dimension to the week. Jason and I had so much fun with it - we can only hope everyone else did to!”

I will help organize it if anyone is willing to play…

I had some more thoughts.....maybe someone can make them better.

Hi Brack, tell Annette I said hello. Do you know why Angie and Dennis cancelled this cruise? I hope they are all right.

Hello, my name is Nancy and I am from MAryland...my husband, daughter and myself are booked (two days ago) on this cruise.... WILL BE OUR FIRST and we are really looking forward to it... we did opt to get the navigator verandah room and I cant wait.. (hope I dont get seasick lol...) just wanted to say hello, I am going to take my time and check out all of the wealth of information on this board, and if anyone has any suggestions or advice, feel free to let me know.... THANKS SO MUCH !

take care, Nancy :)

Welcome to our cruise and I see you are new to the DIS too. You will find everyone here to be very friendly and helpful. Some of us have cruised DCL several times so we are here to help you.
I have a problem sometimes with seasickness, I use the wrist bands if the seas are very rough. I always use Bonine and start taking it two days before we cruise. I also take ginger capsules, two with meals and at bedtime.
You will enjoy cruising with Disney.:flower3:

Annette is doing good. She had a "little" surgery on her right hand for some carpal tunnel and trigger finger in her thumb. She is doing good.

I think Dennis & Angie's eminent retirement, selling the home, moving and the "big" cruise all were factors. I'm really going to miss them. :sad2:
