Who else counts to 5 or so when your kids misbehave? I can get to almost 3, and my dd will stop doing or start doing what needs to be undone or done. I usually get to almost 5 before my ds does though. I have no idea what they think will happen after the count of 5, and I have no idea what to do with them if I reach 5. But it does work wonders. If my ds is in a lot of hot water, counting from 1 to 20 in french real rapidly usually catches his attention too.

I do it too, but if John-Cole knows he isn't really in trouble and is acting cute he will say, 6....7.....and usually I laugh too...he knows not to do that when he is in serious trouble though.

I only count to 3....So if I get to 2 they are in trouble unless they move fast

My ds will learn to listen to me say 4. Sometimes I skip 2 and 3. He HATES it when I do that.

With dd #1 the THREAT of counting got her turned around.

dd #2 on the other hand.......she pushes 2 & 3/4ths all the time

I count to three...I usually get to 2.5 before they are running for whatever it is I'm counting for.

I used to have to count too. 1 thru to 5. Depending on how angry I was is where I started. They really hated when I started at 5. lol

I was just doing that. I then turn his greenlight into a yellow then red. My DS freaks when I mention the light is going to change.

We count for the 2 yr old both for misbehaving and to get her to do something "now" when she is distracted. Funny thing was on a frantic Sunday afternoon sometimes we give the dog a command and then start counting for her to do as we've asked. Then we realize she isn't smart enough to know what we are counting for! As smart as many dogs can be, this one is NOT!

nope we count BACKWARDS from 5

Cam figured out that you cant count UP indefinately but you can only count down so far lol so we started counting backwards from 5 it works wonders

I've counted backwards from 5 for my dd. She prefers I count normally (I count faster backwards ).

Yes, we count to 3. Very rarely we get to 2. But I do notice that we over pronounce the words as we say them....ooooonnnnnneeee, ttttttwwwwwoooo. LOL!!!

When my voice is raising at 2 it is pretty good indication of what is to come...I rarely get to 3...
