09/08/07 Early Check in September 8, 2007 Western

If anyone is looking for something fun to observe onboard the ship, try to be at the adult pool (Quiet Cove) just before noontime on a day at sea. You will hear an announcemnet something like this....'Ladies and gentlemen, we will now be sounding the ship's horn for noon". You should cover your ears and be ready....the horn is located just above the Quiet Cove pool and it is the freakin loudest thing ever! You'll see the bartenders and servers put their trays down and cover their ears. The funniest part os that most guests don't know about this:lmao: and you will witness people throw their drinks, fall down and jump out of their skin! It's a hoot if you have a sick sense of humor like I do. For the best view, hit deck 10 and look down from above!

The horn really IS that loud and shocking. The first time I heard it by the adult pool I knew it was coming and I still jumped when it sounded. It's just very shocking!

Thanks for summing it all up very nicely Jenn! As I may have mentioned before, we - Stina (Christina) and Hannacanna (Christine) met Jenn & Jay and their entourage on the Sept. 7 '05 cruise. And now we're stuck with 'em. :lmao: Happy to be stuck with you! :thumbsup2

Yes that is a good idea about the map. We can lay out general times that we will be at particular bars, we'd have to limit it to one drink per bar to move it along. OR we can split up and one group can go to one set of bars and one group at another. Right now with a list of 6 bars (Margaritaville, Capt. Tonys, Turtle Kraals, Irish Kevin's, Sloppy Joe's, The Rum Barrrel) it would take all night! I am doing an excursion (Pirate Soul which is right next to the Rum Barrell) right as we debark the ship which is why I suggested we start AT the Rum Barrell. Figured I'd get my excursion out of the way first then drink! :thumbsup2

But I too may not be able to attend every single bar. I think we should keep it loose. If you want to show up at a bar on the list at a general time and you see other DISers there join 'em! If not that's cool too.

We are up for whatever is decided but we may need an extra drink at Irish Kevin's. It is a great bar and we have spent a few drunk afternoons there. We have booked no shore excursions yet for any of the ports. We like to wander and look around. We had a lot of fun last year in Cozumel at Senor Frogs.

Okay folks, i'll give you very loud, but on one of my former cruises from uncle sam, we were having our tiger cruise (for young ones and their fathers) and all 7 ships of our group were within 1000 yards of each other and gave a commadore his final farewell which included a 7 horn salute....

i am still partially deaf to this day 11 years later!:goodvibes

I'm thinking you all are going to need a designated walker to make sure everyone gets back on the ship. It sounds like a blast but I haven't touch alcohol in some time and I will have my nieces and sister with. Lois

:lmao:
Yes for those ..of us who have not drank the stuff for a time that would effect how fast it hits ya... land level KW compare to MO...might effect alchol effects.
NO... walkers... lets get power wheelchair for pub cral..:rotfl2: :lmao:
Now which streets are you taveling down? :goodvibes Jimmy Buffet's place??

Please keep Kevin in your thoughts and prayers today. We are at the hospital and they will be taking him back for surgery soon. They already ran his IV, and there is one guy ahead of him for surgery. Hope everyone is doing well.

Kevin is out of surgery. It was only supposed to last 40 min but it took 4 1/2 hours. There were major complications. Everytime the surgeon would try to pull the tube out of Kevs throat he would cough and bust his stitches again. They finally had to give him a spinal (to stop him from being able to cough) and finish up. He is in severe pain and I am a wreck. You have no idea how scary it is to hear 'Mrs Back, there were complications'. He will likely be admitted to the hospital for a few days. Please continue to pray for us.

Oh goodness, I am sorry to hear that. Praying for you and Kevin. Hang in there sweetie. We're all pulling for you guys. :grouphug:

In other news...
prayer request for my DP Hannacanna who is driving from Massachusetts to Tampa, FL today. I am praying for a safe journey. For those who don't know we (stina & hannacanna) are moving to Tampa and she is driving ahead of me to look for a job and housing, I don't know how long we'll be apart...until she finds a job (Too long!) :sad1:

stina :wave2:

Thank you Stina. And prayers sent for hannacanna. That is a LONG drive. I hope she arrives safely and you don't have to be apart any longer than necessary.

PrettyIntink, You are in our thoughts and prayers. I glad Kevin came out of surgery OK even though it was much longer than expected. Take care and see you around the boards. Lois

We are home and doing fine. Kevin is resting and watching movies. I am SO glad to be home. That hospital is a nightmare.

Stina, did hannacanna make it to Tampa ok?

Hannacanna just texted me and said she is in Virginia and having a blast driving across the country! We purchased a Garmin Nuvi GPS for her journey and it's made all the difference. What an incredible piece of techonology! It tells you where food is, even broken down by type. (American, Chinese, etc) and tells you lodging within the vicinity of your vehicle. I highly recommend it. We set it on "British English" voice instruction and Hannacanna has affectionately dubbed it "Rachel the Cruise Director" because for those of you familiar with Cruise Director Rachel you know she has that heavenly British accent that wakes you up every morning on the cruise.

I so would have too! In fact, I wish I had a recording of Rachel saying, "Good morning, ladies and gentlemen! This is your cruise director, Rachel. We have a lot going on for you onboard today....." I would use it as my alarm!

For those of you not sure if you know Rachel, her picture is below with my husband and me when we got married.
