09/08/07 Early Check in September 8, 2007 Western

I have to admit.....I dont remember the folks at Stingray City saying not to touch their backs. I DO remember being told not to pick your feet up when walking, not to touch other parts of your body after handling the ray food since it can make that body part smell like food and the rays may try to suck on you (beware of super sonic hickeys!). To clarify though, I have emailed the gentleman who is doing our chartered StingRay City Tour in Grand Cayman and asked him to clarify. I will let you know when I hear from him.

Ok.. super suckers. hickie from a member of the fish family. Aaaaa NO...
But thank you for the research and information. :thumbsup2

Thanks for clearing that up. When I went to the Stingray City Web site I noted that they had picture of people touching the back of the rays. Mostly the fins but they were touching the backs. There were not all that many pictures.

I was concerned that my nieces get the most correct information. I think I will tell them that touching MIckeys Rays is OK but if they see any anywhere else not to touch tnem. Just to prevent an accident. They are only 9 and gental is not real clear all the time. Give them just a little more time on earth and they will have it. Lois
Yes Disney::MickeyMo rays sound better for the twins:rolleyes:

Jenn, you are right!
I did the same thing you did! I emailed the guys at Moby Dick tours and asked them what the deal is with petting the stingrays. They told me the same thing they told you, pettting them anywhere is pretty much fine because they are so accustomed to human beings.

Although I swear, I did not make up what I've been saying! Perhaps the other tour I went on they were more conservative with their petting instructions and that's why I remembered it. Oh well. It's good to know it's not necessary to do it only one way.

Sorry to freak anyone out, glad this is cleared up!

Hahahha! Was it Mark who responded to you? He's proabably like, "What the heck? What is going on with these people emailing me for ray patting tips?" Hahhaha!:rotfl:

Don't know who it was, but he probably did think it was weird! :lmao:

Been trying to clean stuff up and pack today. Ugh. I HATE packing! I want to throw everything I own out a window!!!

Stina, we'll probabaly meet up with you at some point but I think we are planning on hitting The Turtle Crawl hard, after we shop and tour the city some. (Since, last time we were there, we got married and missed out on Beth and them getting to look around.) But no matter, what....you'll see us at dinner since we get to EAT TOGETHER EVERY NIGHT!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Where is the Turtle Crawl, maybe I can add it to the pub route? I know Jay told me about it but when I googled Key West, Turtle Crawl I couldn't find any info or an address for it.

Yes, of course, no pressure to join the crawl! We will eat together every night! And of course drink together every night at Rockin' Bar D! :thumbsup2

My bad....I forgot...it's spelled "Turtle Kraals" and it is awesome!!!!!!!!!!!

Stina,

I don't mean to be a know it all, but no PUB CRAWL should be complete without every bar that my Uncle Jimmy (Buffett) has sang about - Therefore I respectively request that we addd Captain Tony's to the list. There is a tree growing in the bar.

The song? Last Mango in Paris. Very first line in the song.

I cannot wait for this cruise, are we set to go sailing yet?

Hope all is well -

Great suggestion! I will add Capt. Tony's to the list. We are getting quite a long list of bars which would result in a 5 hour pub crawl! :lmao: Perhaps we can leave it open, map out a general route and people can come and go. I may not be able to go to all of the pubs but I will certainly try. I'm sure we can string together enough of us as various intervals to keep the crawl going!

And don't forget about Margaritaville (it's on my list) after all Jimmy (Buffett) needs to make his paper!

I'm thinking you all are going to need a designated walker to make sure everyone gets back on the ship. It sounds like a blast but I haven't touch alcohol in some time and I will have my nieces and sister with. Lois

Hey that's a great idea! We can rent some senior citizen "walkers" to hold us up as we go from pub to pub. :lmao: We are CRAZY. I still think having a tag tied to each of us that says "Please pay tab and return to the Disney Magic by 5pm" :rotfl:

stina :wave2:

Ok... I'll have them made for the Pub Crawl !:lmao:
Should I be the one saying" Yup... that one belongs here also." as I sit at the docks and wait for all of you?:rotfl2:

Stina,

Good idea about the map. We have a hokey shore exscursion planned for late afternoon, we would be unable to attend (or walk therafter) all the bars. Key West is still in the states, airtime on cell phones would not be too high.

Perhaps setting up a map and having a "Where are we now number" top call for those interested.

Hope all is well-

Yes that is a good idea about the map. We can lay out general times that we will be at particular bars, we'd have to limit it to one drink per bar to move it along. OR we can split up and one group can go to one set of bars and one group at another. Right now with a list of 6 bars (Margaritaville, Capt. Tonys, Turtle Kraals, Irish Kevin's, Sloppy Joe's, The Rum Barrrel) it would take all night! I am doing an excursion (Pirate Soul which is right next to the Rum Barrell) right as we debark the ship which is why I suggested we start AT the Rum Barrell. Figured I'd get my excursion out of the way first then drink! :thumbsup2

But I too may not be able to attend every single bar. I think we should keep it loose. If you want to show up at a bar on the list at a general time and you see other DISers there join 'em! If not that's cool too.

So, how exciting is it that we are now under 60 days until our cruise?!? Woo-hoo!!!! Our camp can't wait! We are doing our pre-cruise clothes shopping, making kick-butt tee shirts for embarkation day, and tyring to look into activities and excursions.
We think we are actually keeping things extremly loose on this cruise. See, last cruise my hubby Jay and I got married so our schedules were pretty packed with wedding-related activities. But this time, where it's just our anniversary, we are planning on doing a lot more. I think this trip is going to be a big "take advantage of the ship" trip. On previous DCL cruises I have loved all of the onboard activties like the classes, the trivia games, the Rainforest and just swimming and haning by the pool. None of the rest of the family really got to experience that last cruise so I think we will do a lot of it. ESPECIALLY since my little sister in-law, Dee just turned 18 and she's a Disney freak (and ex-Cast Member) like me so she's dying to do shipboard stuff.
In Key West, we are not doing any excursions. We will explore the city, spend lots of time at our favorite bar, Turtle Kraal and then maybe pop into Mallory Square before we get back onboard. Since sunset is at 7:38 and we pull out of Key West at 7:30, we should have a gorgeous view from the ship deck!!!!!!
In Grand Cayman, we are doing a private excursion to Sting Ray City (not through Disney) which will then drop us off at Seven Mile Beach.
In Cozumel, we are just planning on wandering and shopping, then hitting the BEST BAR IN THE CARIBBEAN.....Carlos and Charlie's. (But don't go there unless you are prepared to get CRAZY! And it's NOT a place for kids!) In the past, we have done the Jeep Safari Tour thorugh Disney and it was a BLAST but we have done it three times now so I think we are going to pass this time.
And in Castaway Cay, we will do Serenity Bay in the morning, while we can still get a hammock. We are doing the Jet Ski Eco Tour at noon, then we'll get lunch at Cookie's. In the afternoon, we may try the scavenger hunt if there's nothing else we really want to do.
So now that you know what all of our plans are, I may as well tell you who "we" are. There's me (Jenn), my hubby (Jay), my mother in-law (Beth), my little sister in-law (Dee), my sister in-law (Heather), my niece (Cady), my best friend (David) and our pals, who you all know.....Stina and Hannacanna.
