What a good evening --- beautiful weather, a good dinner at Chefs de France, and a watching Off Kilter afterwards in Canada.
I made an ADR early yesterday afternoon for Chefs de France for dinner. I was told the only open time was a little after 5:, so I grabbed it.
It has been awhile since DH and I have eaten at Chefs. No reason why, other than maybe there are so many places to dine at WDW.
We arrived early, so went through the bakery line and bought a few goodies for breakfast today.
The line goes out the door, as usual, but does not take as long as expected.
Still had plenty of time as we checked into the podium. They do not start seating until 5:00 p.m., and on true Disney time were a few minutes later than that.
There were still open tables even after seating us masses.
Our server was very prompt ordering our beverages. By the time he returned we had decided what we were ordering. And it was a hard decision. DH kept debating about the The French Menu. He really likes that you get soup and dessert with the meal, and I know he really likes their French onion soup.
However we bot decided on....
Filet de boeuf grille, sauce au poivre noir Gratin Dauphinois et haricots verts - Grilled tenderloin of beef with a black pepper sauce original potato gratin of Savoy and green beans,
I am not much of a steak eater. Serve me a GOOD hamburger and I would be happier with that over a steak. So being I am no steak lover, I rarely order steak, but the potatoes sounded too good to pass up.
I ordered mine well done. I hate eating pink meat.
One reason I do not order steak normally. By ordering it well done it is usually what I call medium or just a cruddy, grisly steak. Chefs is not steak house, but I figured they will know how to cook it decent.
DH ordered his steak medium.
We each were served our one piece of crusty french bread. (No bread basket. But can't say we wanted any more anyway.) We waited just a bit for the bread. Once we got it I knew why. It was out of the oven hot. Wow! (Not burning hot on the outside. But pretty steamy once it was broke open.)
Our meals were very prompt. No surprise as I think we just happened to be some of the firsts getting our meal order in, and it was only us 2. (Lots of parties of 5 last night were called while we were there.)
My well done steak came marked with a tomato on top. (Which DH got the benefit of.)
Well the steaks were exceptional. Mine was certainly well done. But it was very tender and not a bit of fat, gristle or anything other than tender meat. And it was on a sauce that seemed more of a wine sauce than black pepper. It was very good. DH really liked his too, and he said his was cooked perfect.
The potatoes of course were very good. The green beans were long and what I call tough. They tasted good, but were okay. I don't know if they were tough and more raw than cooked, or both.
Just certainly not tender.
Dessert was tempting. But we would have been too full then, so we passed.
The service was very good. The only thing was I was never offered a refill on my ice tea. But we had water to drink besides ice tea, and that was more than enough.
They must make a fortune on the non alcoholic beverages alone. Almost $3 for a medium goblet of ice tea.
We were in and out pretty fast, all due to timing. DH said it would have been more of a relaxing lingering meal with the French Menu.
Afterwards we strolled to Canada, sat and waited for Off Kilter.
Wonderful as always!
And perfect weather to boot.
