OK fellow Sept people... question: When do you book flights? I noticed someone here has already purchased airline tix. We will fly Southwest and their site does not show a Sept calendar of flights yet. :confused3

I've only flown as a kid/teen, so this is my 1st experience buying airline tix. I hope I have a month or two bc I just got the Southwest card and have to spend the $2000 to get the 50k promo points.

So two things that I did today: 1. Changed our Auto train date by one day (leaving VA on Sept 6 instead of Sept 7 ) and saved us 423.90:banana:
2. Changed from AKL- Savannah view to POR RR - Garden view AND added a day and saved $520.86!! Total savings today $940+:worship::cool1: Plus, we already have FD for our stay:thumbsup2

Kudos to you! I love finding ways to save money!!
I'm assuming FD= Free Dining? How did you get it so soon? A special offer (PIN) emailed to you?

I'd say Southwest will release Sept dates at the end of February. They are opening August dates on January 27th. JetBlue should be soon as well as they have had up to Sept 2nd open since November.

I have been keeping my eyes peeled for sept dates on southwest, and will book as soon as they dip below $300. We can fly straight from KC on Southwest! It's my favorite airline!. :thumbsup2

We will be going September 12-19th staying at POR. Our party of 13 will be me, DH, DS (14) DD (14) DS (turning 10:) FIL, MIL, SILx2 BILx2 and DNiece (13) and DNephew (11). Wow never traveled to Disney with that many people:) Anyway we are really excited and hoping for FD if not we are probably going to cancel:( but for now we are moving forward with plans. Can't wait to start making ADR's since we have 13 that might be a little tricky. Surprised DH with a trip in December for just the two of us and we had a blast. Still struggling with a little PDD (Post Disney Depression) so this is really helping me!! It will be 1st trip for Mother and Father in Law. The last two days in Ohio have been terrible with -30 windchill Disney sounds so lovely right now lol!

I'd probably book your ADR reservations in two separate tables just to get away from the automatic gratuity on tables of more than 8. Maybe just book 6 and 7 and then request to be close together? If you do this, you have to book in two different names in the party.

Me to. Waiting for airfare can be just as frustrating as waiting for FD. Lol :)

Thanks for all the website suggestions! I'm amazed how organized you all are! I can't wait to really start the planning. My son knows about the trip, though I'm thinking he doesn't really understand it, since he has no real concept of Disney World. He IS excited he is going to meet Mickey though!

I think I am likely going to do the Breakfast ADR in Animal Kingdom with Mickey, Donald, etc. What is everyone's favorite character dining experience?

Crystal Palace in the magic kingdom, Winnie the Pooh characters..went there for breakfast on my sons 5th birthday and he and his just turned 1 year old sister loved it. One of the best pictures I have was there and our one year old leaning back in the high chair to cuddle into pooh bear.

I'd assume a BB. I haven't seen any FD pins past March.

Our free dining was a bounce back offer when my sister stayed on site last year. You have to book while you are on disney property to get the FD bounce back offer, 1 year in advance.

So, do you not usually book as soon as the flights get posted, but rather wait until rates drop? If so, when does this usually occur? Bear with me, I'm new to this and would like to find out what the "smart" way to do this is. Thanks

I would suggest to look the day your dates open up. Last year we booked our flight down with Southwest & paid $113/person, by the next day it had gone up in price. Sometimes the day they open dates they have sales on.

Free dining was our bounceback offer when we were there this past November:thumbsup2
We had already checked out and were on the train waiting to leave to come home and I found the offer in the Welcome book that was in the room (that my dd wanted to keep) so I called from the train and the CM said that was fine. I have since tweeked where were staying and the dates...lol

Thanks for the tip! I'll watch. A lot of "stars and planets" have to line up for me tho-
*I have to wait for the southwest card to arrive
*and then I have to find some things to pay that willl add up to $2000
*then I have to wait for the bonus points to show on the account.

Not sure all that is going to happen by the end of Feb, (if thats when the Sept Southwest flights will appear )

We just went in December and did a split stay BLT and AKV. We only did one night at BLT. I hate having to wait, it's driving me nuts! I see you're in Mass too, small world :wave2:

Did you at least enjoy your one night there? This is probably dh and I's last big vacation just the two of us before we have kids so we want to make it a good one!! Where in Mass. Are you? I am on the south shore.
