After a long day at Epcot we hopped on the monorail. As many of you know the seats fit 5 adults and maybe 4 adults 2 kids. Anyway, a mother in the stroller puts her stroller next to her in the seat instead of in the middle so she took up 3 seats total.

It took me a moment after the doors shut to realize no-one was sitting next to her. We were all exhausted and I always put the DD's on my lap to make room for everyone.

How could anyone in their right mind stand two empty seats next to them in a standing room only car? I can't tell if I was madder at her for being so inconsiderate or me for being such a wimp and not just moving the stroller and sitting down. I know what it is like to have babies so I'm always giving the benefit of the doubt but ... come on. Why take up three seats?

There is my vent. :flower:

Thats so rude! I have that problem here sometimes on the Toronto subway. Someone plops down at rush hour and puts their suitcase on the seat next to them. I have no problem asking if I can sit down if my feets are killing me. They always roll their eyes and make me feel like I'm putting them out sooooo much.
Well sorry that you bag deserves a seat more then a human!

My DH and I are always giving up our seats on the bus or on the monorail. My DH even has bad knees and anyone with bad knees knows after a long day you have to sit! It makes me so mad when you see a young "kid" sitting there not even moving when a young couple gets on with a sleeping child and then has to juggle the child like a bag of grocerys! My DH has even gone as far as telling them to "get up" :rotfl: You should see the look on there faces!

I live in MASS, trust me you dont see that on the T (subway to Boston) all Hell would break loose :rotfl2:

Not only should she have moved the stroller, but she should have gotten up herself if children or older people were standing. (This is assuming she was not PG or ill.)

Felt good didn't it????

Feels great to vent. I never react when I am a witness to such things, must be the shock that hasn't sunk in yet...

I feel stupid, but are you saying she put the stroller UP on the monorail sit with a baby in it? How ridiculous is that? Either way, this is really, really rude!

Yes I am confused too... the stroller was "ON" the seat?? I can't picture it.

Ok I admit I'm "spatial relations" challenged, but I can't even picture how one would park a stroller in such a way as to take up extra seats. Did she park it sideways, lenghtwise up next to the bench seat? I would think it would be more preferable to both mother and baby to park the stroller so the baby would be facing the mother and then not taking up any bench seats. I dunno, I went outta my way, even when my own doggies were barking to make sure small kids, elderly, and people with babies had seats on whatever transportation I took. I just don't understand some people. My kids are still pretty young but I would fully expect my 10 yr old boy to get up if someone needed his seat more than he did. I'd be willing to move a whole 10 yr old, it's a shame that there are adults who don't even move a stroller so others can sit. I think I probably would have very sweetly said "Is there any way you could scoot the stroller a bit so we can sit too please?" You know if I had stroller aged kids, and being as I said spatial relations challenged I might just absent mindedly park funny, especially if I was experiencing park exhuastion. Then again, since I love to sit so much after a long day at the park, I'd probably be extra sensitive to others who had to stand and would be mortified if I realized a stroller was preventing them from doing so.

I think she put the folded up stroller up on the seat. I've seen people do that on the busses, sometimes there is no where to put it with people crammed in like sardines. That's why I prefer a rental car.

Oh, I would haved just moved the darn stroller off, with a smile and an "excuse me."

I often offer my lap if a lady needs a seat.... :rotfl2:

Just out of curiosity, how do you know the "kid" doesn't have bad knees or some other hidden problem as well?

My 9 yr old can't walk for long periods of time without having bad pain in her ankles and if some "adult" ever told her to move, mama bear would have to come out of her cave!

I'm not saying that every kid you'll see sitting has a problem, it's just that you can't know whether they do or don't.

No Flaming here and good to vent, BUT also don't too easily overlook that maybe she was exhausted and not just thinking straight. I've been known to do some things that later I thought were inconsiderate (along the same lines as this) only to realize, usually a little to late that I just wasn't paying attention to my P's and Q's. I always like to give people the benefit of the doubt. Of course if you had said something and she acted like what she was doing was fine, that would be a different story.

know chivalry is not TRULY dead! :rotfl:

I also agree that maybe she just wasn't thinking. I have probably done the same after a long day in the park, my mind will be on getting the kids back to the room or sometimes I am just thinking Thank God I got through the day with the little ones or sometimes I am just in lala land thinking back on the wonderful day we had and I am just not thinking about those around me. A simple excuse me and I am back to reality. Although I DO try to think about those around me and usually my kids are sitting on my or my husbands lap. We have been lucky though, I can't remember anything being really crowded the last couple of times we were there. This time we are going in June so I do expect to see alot more people.

Well, at least I know it wasn't me in your situation because we don't really need them anymore except in the parks for our 5 year old.

Lisa :)

Is this the same person who left used towels all over the chairs when they were done at the pool? Some people are just inconsiderate and unfortunately, the considerate ones seem to pay the price. :)

On our last trip, we got on a bus that was packed and the couple in front of us had two small girls. We got on at DTD and this one gentleman offered his seat to the husband carrying one of the girls. He didn't take it, but when we got to PI and another couple got off that were sitting near us, I told him to take the seat.

He asked if I was sure and I said yes. My DD took the other seat and he took one. The original gentleman who had offered his seat held onto their stroller for them. The one little girl was already asleep in his arms. When we got to Pop, the gentleman who held the stroller carried it off the bus for the couple.

This trip we saw many people, young & old giving up seats to people with sleeping little ones. It was great to see.

I think if I had been the OP, I would have asked her to move the stroller so that someone with kids could sit down. Yes, she might have been too tired to realize what she was doing, but she could have also known exactly what she was doing too. Some people just don't care. I have seen that quite a bit in the past.
