So DH and I heard from the bank yesterday and we have been approved for the mortgage amount we requested. :cool1: It couldn't have come soon enough...the invasion has just begun and it looks like it'll be worse than last year. :scared:

Believe it or not, it was even worse last year! Soon they will be clumped on the corners of our roof. Yuck! One even made it back inside with me on my leg after taking the pictures. I'm afraid to go outside with out an umbrella! :umbrella:

I'm not afraid of a few at a time on the ground...but hundreds of them falling from the trees is too much !

EEEEEEEEEEEWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW!!!!

I'm not sure I'd even leave the house...or if I did, not sure I'd come back! :crazy2: :crazy2: :crazy2:

What kind of trees are these things coming from?

Congrats!! And can't say I can blame you!

Sorry OT-but hiwaygal-is that a Basenji in your pic? Beautiful!! One of our dogs is part Basenji, stubborn but so funny, for the most part.

That is absolutely disgusting. Is that common in Baton Rouge or just in the area where you live? Does it last all summer? I wouldn't even go outside!

We have them at our house too, not as bad as yours. Last year was definitely worse. The critters ate every leaf on every tree. They also seem to like car tires.

They seem to prefer sweetgum trees. Naturally we have a bunch of them.
But they dine on our oak, pecan and even crepe myrtle trees.

At least we don't seem to have the stinging kind. My mom who has a grand total of one tree had an infestation of the stinging kind in a bush.

They seem better this week than last, don't you find?

Are you moving somewhere without trees?

Also, DH found a spray at Pest stop that kills them, we spray around the house. Can't spray every tree. It worked for the variety at mom's house too.

Congrats on your loan approval!!! :Pinkbounc

What are they, caterpillars??? :scratchin

And great news on the mortgage approval!!!!! :thumbsup2 :cool1:

Good eye! ;)

The first dog and the last dog in my pic are basenji's. You are right...very pretty, very stubborn, very intelligent...and VERY funny! :)

Yep, they are caterpillars! Luckily, the majority are the non-stinging kind. We have a few stingers...I keep telling DS that the green ones are nice but the funny-looking white ones and the big black ones hurt! Hopefully he won't get stung! I assume they come from the oak trees. We have three large oak trees and a magnolia tree in our front yard (we live in an older part of town so we have lots of trees).

Our new place will probably be in a newer neighborhood, so probably little to no trees right now.

I actually find them worse today! I didn't notice them when I left home this morning...luckily my back door and car are located on the opposite side from the pictures! I noticed them when I was driving back!

It doesn't last all summer thank goodness! They are around for a while, then we'll see cocoons everywhere and then have tons of moths!

EWWWW!!!

We had a tree in my backyard that those catepillars loved. I was deathly afraid of walking anywhere near it. Those things would just fall out of the tree! Gross gross gross.

We've never had it that bad here, but one year they were marching across the top of my fence. There was a parade of them, one right after another, about 8 ft long.

Ok, I never want to hear anyone complaining about lizards or love bugs here again. Those pictures make my skin crawl!

What ARE those things? :crazy2:

Congrats on the approval! And I thought I was anxious just to get away from my noisey upstairs neighbors! I'd take them over those creepy crawlies any day of the week!

I wonder what kind of trees those things like? I can luckily say that I've never seen such a thing!

Yuck, yuck, yuck! Caterpillars are so gross! Back in the late seventies, we had a terrible gypsy moth caterpillar invasion up here. It was horrible! People with white houses had so many catepillars crawling on them that they looked black. They's be dropping out of the trees onto your head (and down your shirt!) when you tried to play outside.

The neighborhood kids came up with a game: ride your bike over as many caterpilars as possible. Bonus points if you aimed well enough that you could get guts to squirt out of both ends.

Yes...think of me next time you complain about a couple of bugs or lizards! lol!

Well, it's time for me to leave for my meeting. Wish me luck! I don't want any caterpillars to come with me!! :crazy2: :faint:

Congrats on the mortgage!!

We're inundated with those pesky things too. I hate them so much I'm considering hiring a lawn service just for the next few months so I don't have to go outside to mow the grass!

Ah, I've seen them before, they destroyed one of my parent's trees in their backyard a few years ago. And they're everywhere, not just in the south!
