Yuck, yuck, yuck! Caterpillars are so gross! Back in the late seventies, we had a terrible gypsy moth caterpillar invasion up here. It was horrible! People with white houses had so many catepillars crawling on them that they looked black. They's be dropping out of the trees onto your head (and down your shirt!) when you tried to play outside.

The neighborhood kids came up with a game: ride your bike over as many caterpilars as possible. Bonus points if you aimed well enough that you could get guts to squirt out of both ends.

I remember doing that too!!! Although we didn't actually ride our bikes over them...we just stepped on them!!! I remember bringing them home and keeping them for pets!!!

I read somewhere that parts of the Northeast are to hit again REALLY bad with another gypsy moth catepillar invasion like the one in the 70's. ICK.

Hate how they float from the trees on thin webs & you walk into them. I remember getting stung on my thighs while swimming with friends. Had those rash spots for a while. Gross nests everywhere. Foil on trees. YUCK YUCK YUCK!!!!

We rent this house, so I don't have to worry about that! We've been here since 2002, and last year was the first time I noticed a caterpiller problem. Yuck!

Everytime we go outside, DS yells "Look, mom, a caterpiller". This is in a semi-scard voice and not an excited voice. I don't want to make him notice that they are EVERYWHERE!! Although, the caterpillers are a good excuse to make him come inside when I'm ready and he's not!
