Your Unpopular Opinions

i'm offended that the waldo tunnel (aka-'rainbow tunnel') is being renamed for robin williams, it is an AWFUL, HORRIFIC thing. with all that efforts that have gone forth to decrease suicides on the golden gate bridge but then turn around and rename a tunnel that connects to it after someone who committed suicide is wrong on so many levels:mad::mad:.

i don't feel that a person should ever accept/subject themselves/their kids to behaviors from a family member that they wouldn't tolerate from anyone unrelated (aka-you don't have to like/interact with someone just because they are related to you).

I don't believe that a person/household that is barely capable (for whatever reason) of meeting their own needs should be held up as a shining example because they give financially to others. I'm all for helping others, but when the 'others' are in the position of need because they contribute in a very public manner from their own limited resources such that with regularity they are in need of financial help themselves (or for their children's needs) I just don't feel they should be put on a pedestal.

I love the phrase "Happy Holidays" and say it all the time. It means merry christmas and happy new year. Two holidays. It's also inclusive and that's a bonus.

I'm just the opposite. I think it's so generic that it removes all meaning. If it's Christmas time, I say Merry Christmas - if it's New Year's, it's Happy New Year.

....(and if you define it as being for just those two holidays, it's not any more inclusive at all)

Can't stand selfish drivers who will hold up 6 cars behind them with the right of way just to let someone pull out in front of them. Then they feel good about themselves because they get a thank you wave from the one person they can see and could care less about the 2 or 3 cars in the back that get stuck at an extra red light that they screwed over.

Ugh! Yes!!! Thought this was just in my area!!! They think they have done this great deed!! It's one thing when traffic is stopped, but when they hold up flow of traffic to do it - it's irritating.

I think that except for a very, very, very small number of people with a real diagnosis the whole gluten-free thing is nothing but a fad.

I think many food allergies are overblown just to make the children feel special.

Many children are labeled as ADHD/Aspergers/oppositional defiant or whatever the "in" term is nowadays just to absolve parents of any responsibility whatsoever. "Oh, I know he shouldn't be screaming and running around in the library. But he has ADHD. There's nothing I can do about it." (And for the record--I have a brother who is autistic, so not a foreign concept to me.)

Don't understand the hype about Dole Whips or Frozen.

"Participant" is not deserving of a trophy.

The Kardashians just need to crawl under a rock somewhere.

Parents should need some sort of certification in order to homeschool. When I see a parent who can't write a proper sentence say they're homeschooling, I cringe.

I'm sure I'll be able to come up with some more.....

Can I go check my mail without having to speak or wave to every neighbor I see. I'm not being rude if I don't speak or wave to you. I just want to check my mail and go back in my house.

I think Disney fireworks and Christmas decorations are nice but nothing like reported how over the top they are on the dis (gasp, did I just say that).

I live in New York and worked many, many years by 5th Avenue so Ive seen my share of decorations and fireworks and maybe thats the reason?

I get annoyed at the people that see signs for miles that a lane is closing, ignore the directions to merge, and follow the ending lane to the very end --- expecting those that followed the directions to yield. Undoubtedly they wait until the very last minute and it causes HUGE back ups. There are always some that will race to the end and then try to dart into the already merged lane. I've seen some near misses this way where people try to force their way in. I let people in when they have no where to go but it is annoying.

Additionally, people that hold up others while they text at the light is even MORE annoying. I've beeped to get the person moving only for the person to look up and barely start to roll, then look back down, going back to their text to complete it! :headache: SO RUDE!! I have missed the green light many times because of people texting and it bugs the heck out of me. If the people that do this to others had it done to them a few times, they would think twice.

I agree. I have always thought hitting another human to be a barbaric act. Now add in pulling down pants or diaper and hitting on a bare bottom? Perverse and very weird.
IMO, spanking is a way for parents to get out their frustrations because a child disobeyed them. Not a punishing act. More of a "I am ticked off that you made me angry so because of that I am going to hurt you" kind of thing. Probably also not a popular opinion.
Drove me crazy when on Facebook and I saw all of these "My parents spanked me as a kid and because of that I am a great human being" kind of posts.

cursive should continue to be taught in the public schools.

'home economics' should be a required course in the public schools (it's not even offered as an elective here yet b/c my kid is in special ed he gets it in the form of 'life skills'-heck every kid should graduate high school w/some time spent on consumer math-budgeting, taxes, credit, college cost vs. anticipated earnings in a particular career...., meal planning and preparation-including healthy/budget conscious, housing options/costs, basic upkeep/home safety...).

parents are not obligated to fully (or even partially) fund their child's college education.

charging 'rent' or 'room and board' to an adult child who is employed but continues to live in their parent's home is not evil or greedy-it teaches responsibility and an awareness of what 'real life' costs (and turning around and handing that money back to the adult child when they decide to move out on their own makes a mockery of the whole learning experience).
