Your Most Disappointing Restaurant

tony's. i've had better (and less expensive) pasta at the olive garden.

I AGREE 100%!!! My entire family did not like Tony's at all. Very disappointing. :sad2:

Both San Angel and the Hollywood Brown Derby were dissapointing to me on my honeymoon. Mediocre food and bad service.
O WOW!! My DS and his DGF JUST returned from a week in WDW and those were two of their FAVORITES. I have eaten at San Angel with my DH and DS' several years and would NEVER eat there again. Thought is was horrible besides I could NOT even SEE the plate...too dark...

DS says that it was FABULOUS and certainly one of their TOP picks for WDW...hhmmm....

DH and I have never eaten at Brown Derby but there again, DS says it was wonderful....so there you go.....hmmm....

O.k., Now I am thoroughly depressed reading this thread about the worst places to eat. I reserved for Chef Mickey's dinner and O'Hanas for dinner and they seem to be top two listed here. Hopefully it is not too late to make some changes. Help me out please. We want to do a character meal and we may not change the Chef Mickeys because it may be hard to find another character dinner on short notice. We are leaving in a little over a month. I considered changing O'Hanas already but I had not decided what other places to eat at. We need one more dinner reservation plus changing O'Hana's to something else. What are some of the best places to eat with two boys 8 & 4 years old. We love steak and seafood. We already have chef Mickeys and Hoop De Doo Revue so ribs and chicken are out! :confused3

Have you thought about LE CELLIER? Seriously, DH & I just ate there in Feb and we saw many kids in the restaurant, MANY!!! Call and ask what the menu is like or go on ALL EARS. Deb has every menu on there for all to see. But you said you like steak. YOU WILL NOT DISAPPOINTED!!! AWESOME!!! And I think ALLOT of DISer's will agree with me on this restaurant. :thumbsup2

Chef Mickey's may not have the best food in the world, but it is undoubtedly a lot of fun, ESPECIALLY for a four and eight year old. It really is a part of the Disney experience, and while you may not love the food, I'm betting your family loves the experience!

The Kona Cafe, which is right next to Ohana is a great restaurant for steak and seafood. The other I would suggest would be LeCellier in Epcot.

Shellgirl do not change your plans. Just as many love these restaurants as don't. I've eaten at Chef Mickey's and the foods always been good, not great. Character interaction has always been good when I've been there.

As far a Ohana goes this is a place you love or you don't. I'm one who did not care for the meat. My DH liked it. Go with your plans, and make your own decisions.

I know San Angel Inn-Mexico gets awful reviews and had I listened to the reviews I'd never had gone. Suprising I liked this restaurant. My DH hated it.

Biergarten gets great reviews, my whole family did not care for the food here.

I guess the saying "Different strokes for different folks" holds true for restaurants too.

After reading through this thread about the only thing it tells me is:

1. Everybody's tastes are different
2. Everybody's experiences will differ day to day depending on the mood of the people dining and the servers/Cast Members

Some days/nights are going to be home runs and others are going to be strike outs. It's a matter of taste, opinon, and expectation.

Shellgirl, I agree with Mamu in that you shouldn't change your plans. Try out the places and just keep mental note for next time if you were pleased or not. As Mamu said, different strokes for different folks.

I also agree fully with cdpa4d in that experiences will differ day to day...even year to year. I love Le Cellier, have eaten there too many times to count, but our last visit, I had to send my steak back twice and felt like my server was "angry" with me and making too much of a fuss about this, almost to the point I was embarrassed. I know in my heart of hearts that this was just an off day for either her or I. I would absolutely go again and am looking forward to it. The way I see it, restaurants are like that at home, too.

Bon Appetite :)

I was really looking forward to 'Ohana, since I had read so many wonderful reviews, and it just sounded like a fun restaurant. But I ended up so disappointed. It's not bad, just way overhyped. Same with Boma Breakfast, NOT worth the trek to that part of the world. If you're staying at AKL, sure, but don't go out of your way for it. I was also disappointed by LTT for dinner.

But I also think you should try every restaurant you are interested in. I don't think I will ever try Chef Mickey's, it just does not sound like my cup of tea.

It's somewhat refreshing to see all these posts about people's dissapointment in BOMA. It was one of my least favorite places to dine at our last visit and had quite a bit of hype surrounding it. I would add Alfredo's to that list as well. As for the Character Meals, WCC, etc...I think you get what you pay for (a pretty penny) but it's for the characters and not the meal. I would not expect to get good food/service at WCC or HDDR.

I have been to several Michelin 3 star restaurants, all 9 of Emeril Lagasse's restaurants, SW at the Wynn, Nobu (in 3 cities), 3 of Mario Batali's restaurants and quite a few others, and I have never seen anyone wear gloves.

My friend was a health inspector for a couple years and I was under the impression from what she told me that food prep people had to wear gloves and hair nets in the kitchen.

I wouldn't worry about it. Just remeber everyone's tastes are different. We went to Chef MIckey's and Ohana a couple of months ago and LOVED them both! This thread is fun to read but I wouldn't take it too seriously. If any of these restaurants were really THAT bad they wouldn't be as popular as they are.

What exactly do you mean by not deveined? We went there a few years ago and my boyfriend won't even go near the restaurant now. While he was eating, he loved the food. He ate a lot of the shrimp i noticed and afterward he got really sick to his stomach. His stomach pains were so bad i thought i was going to have to call down to the lobby for an ambulance. Then he figured out that he may have forgotten to take something off of the shrimp. I wonder if that was it.. :rolleyes2
Uhhh how do I put this nicely? LOL I don't think it typically makes people sick, but it is the black piece of "string" looking "stuff" that runs along the back of a shrimp. After knowing what it really is, I sure don't want to eat it!

I would recommend trying Chef Mickeys at least once :) We ate there in 2000, and I totally enjoyed it. The only reason I have not been back is because I have wanted to try other restaurants. We are going back this May :) It has a fun atmosphere, and I found the food to be just fine. Plenty of variety.

That's a very easy question to answer methinks. We have eaten at many spots at Walt Disney World, but the VERY WORST place we've ever eaten anywhere has to be THE EARL OF SANDWITCH. Super bad in every way except the price, and not a bit like a Disney eatery.

Arggggggg ......

Shellgirl, I'd try Chef Mickey's.

The menu changes often. Some nights you're going to get some nice deluxe things. We got a seafood penne pasta that was really good. They also had a seafood salad that had seascallops and other fish in it. It was excellent. I got my 30 bux worth out of that. They always have some sort of chicken. Ours was rather plain so I didn't get any. They always have ham and prime rib. Here's a tip. If the roast is down to the end, just wait for the next one. Same with the ham. It will be out in about 5-10 minutes given the crowds. The ravioli had a rather plain sauce Of course others that week got the penne with sausage which was just ok they reported and they got Orange, Terriyaki chicken which they said was to die for. All they got on the prepared salads was Broccoli carrot raisin (yuck for me) and Tuna and chicken (Ok but nothing special) We got some really good Salmon. It had a mango sauce on it. It was really really good. It was the best on the property we had that week. We got some almond broccoli and some corn that was good. Others report yucky peas and yucky carrots. In national survey's it's run 80% thumbs up, 20% thumbs down.
There were definitely things I liked and things I didn't like. But I think most can find something they like.

Sellgirl...
DO NOT change your choices...
Chef Mickey's food is bad, but for children it is AWESOME!!!
My son had his birthday dinner there and when I watched the video, he was crying from happiness when Donald brought out his cake. It is like wedding food or Old Country Buffet and it is LOUD, but it is not too bad...I did list it as my big disappointment but my son enjoyed it. I am prone to panic attacks, so it got me a bit.

O'hanas is fun, too...my kids did the coconut races & such and had fun. The food was pretty good, the view amazing.

Hoop Dee Doo everyone on this board has dissed...now I am a jaded, snobby liberal from Chicago so I was expecting it to be awful, but we were meeting friends there. It was great! It was neat to be in the woods and it was all cornball and cheesy, but in a good way like Wisconsin Dells or Branson. The performers were sweet, very good and energetic and the chicken was good. Now of course the ribs were so-so, but the bread and honey butter was good and so was the salad and the shortcake was tasty. I had a lot of fun and my expectations were BEYOND LOW.

Have a great time on your trip....when I went (after years of putting it off, not having enough $$$) I was scared because I had dreamed of the stupid trip for ages. I was afraid I'd built it up in my head and nothing would meet my expectation or hype. Then I chilled like a week before and went and tons of magical stuff happened. So relax, take a break from the boards, and form your own opinion. One man's Old Country Buffet is another man's Spago, you know?

I just know that they do not do it at any of the restaurants I mentioned. Most of them have open plan kitchens, so one can verify this for one's self, the others have kitchen tables and so one can book there to check. :-)

its a mud vein..and thats what the black stuff is.. mud and sand. Its used to weigh the shrimp down basically. It will not make you sick and has no taste but who wants to eat mud?

I will have to say 1900 Park Fare was our worst place we ate at, the buffet was just so BAD, we will never go back, there were only cinderalla, prince and two mice there, fairy godmother at the door, we just thought for the money we payed there should have been more, the food was such a disapointment, I guess we just expected more because everyone always raves about it, only got to choose from a couple of choices on the buffet, had an overall feeling of being so rushed too, we were in and out in about 45 min. Never again for us :sad2:
